8 FACTS EVERYONE MUST KNOW ABOUT LASER HAIR REMOVAL May 25, 2022

Laser hair removal is one of the topmost requested cosmetic procedures in the world, with great satisfaction among people who opt for it. It has the highest “worth it” rating. However not all laser hair removal procedures are made equal. Not all laser hair removal providers are the same either. There is a wide variation in the quality of this procedure. This is also one of the procedures that has the highest side effects. Hence it is worth noting some of the facts about this cosmetic procedure before you embark on getting one for yourself: 1.Laser hair removal devices: The professional laser hair removal devices are classified as Class 3b and class 4 devices by FDA. To understand this classification, for example Class 1 devices can be handled by anyone, with no special qualification or licensing requirements. Class I devices generally pose the lowest risk to the patient and/or user and Class 3b and 4 devices pose the highest risk. As a result, Class 3b and 4 devices should be handled and supervised directly by a licensed and trained physician. 2. The most important factors for laser hair removal are lighter skin color, darker hair, and area of the body. Lighter the skin, and darker the hair better the response. Laser will not work well when the hair is very light or very thin. Laser works best in areas like lower legs, bikini and underarms compared to face. Facial hair seems to be most hormonally dependent. 3. Nd Yag laser is more suitable (relatively safer) for darker skin. Alexandrite is the best laser for hair removal as it has the highest attraction towards melanin but unfortunately is not suitable for darker skin. It is the melanin that laser targets during laser hair removal process, not actually the hair itself. It is important to know this fact before you compare yourself to someone else who has a lighter skin than yours. Alexandrite is the most effective (but riskier) and Nd YAG is the least effective (but less risky) and diode laser falls in between.

4. There is nothing like an effective painless laser. Its easy to understand why: Laser is designed to target and burn the melanin, which is in HO ME

when the follicles are destroyed. There are technologies using low power firing rapidly so that the hair is gradually heated, giving less pain. Create your website like mine with

While these are still okay, they cannotbe compared to high powered technology. They may be acceptable to get some 50-60% reduction but are not suitable to reach 90-99% reduction. The worse case scenario is using too low a power, to give less pain or “painless” has a risk of stimulating more hair and in some cases just thinning the hair down, which makes it more difficult to achieve better results with future treatments. Fortunately, the discomfort with laser treatment is only at the time of doing the procedure. Someone said: I will suck it up and focus on the end results! 5. It is important to get laser sessions as a series (usually 6-8) at regular intervals to achieve maximum and efficient reduction before moving on to maintenance sessions as needed. 6. Maintenance sessions are essential to get long term results. These maintenance sessions or touch-up sessions are less frequent for body areas like legs, bikini, areola, underarms, buttocks, back etc. and more frequent for face. Facial hair tends to be most hormonally influenced. But for those suffering from excessive facial hair, the laser treatments are still life changing, no matter the skin type. 7. The IPL machines are not lasers. IPL stands for Intense Pulse Light, and they are not lasers. The term “IPL laser” is incorrect and deceptive. IPL machines emit broad spectrum light, which has multiple wavelengths while lasers have one specific single wavelength. For example, Nd YAG emits 1064 nm, Alexandrite 755 nm and Diode between 800-810 nm of lasers. While IPL machines have a place in hair reduction, they cannot replace actual lasers in terms of efficacy and selective targeting. IPL machines in general tend to be cheaper than Laser machines and have less cost of maintenance. 8. It is important to protect the patient’s eyes with metal eye shields as lasers are dangerous to the retina and can cause damage to eyes. However, lasers used for hair removal do not increase your chances of any cancer, and they won’t affect any other adjacent organs which do not have melanin. For example, getting bikini laser won’t damage the ovaries and will not make one sterile. With this knowledge now you are more empowered to decide about yourself when you choose your next laser hair removal service. Tags: Laser Hair Removal Treatment, Skincare Clinic NJ, Medical Spa
