SELECTED 2012-2022 Anas Basheer WORKS

2

I graduated from Measi Academy of Architecture with a Bachelors in Architecture, currently holding five years of international work experience in Architecture, Master-planning and Interiors. I pursued my internship experience in Mumbai and Bangalore where I worked along side award winning architects and interior designers - exposed to a great portfolio of work. Since July 2018, I have been a Technical Designer in Gensler Middle East (Dubai/Abu Dhabi) where I also collaborated with many teams across Asia Pacific-Middle East regions and the United States. Strongly passionate about architecture and design. As you will find through this portfolio, I prioritize sketching as the best tool to express the different characters each design has to offer. With each line drawn there are so many new possibilities. I always give attention to detail and help closely with the team to find better solutions. Ensuring every project is done accurately to the highest standards and periodically organized. I strongly believe that a good project only occurs if every single step has been given the adequate consideration. From the first sketches, to design, choice of materials, budget, and construction methodologies. I intend to work harder, smarter and always willing to learn more. Working along with an encouraging team helps build a strong morale and also produce quality work. The past 4 years in Gensler ME have taught me a great deal - from handling, coordinating and designing in all stages from concept to detailed design. ‘Architecture to me is exploring The artistic realms of the mystic mind It is not just the fashioning of an idea But with each line comes The realization of hues and shadows of everything in me That craves expression’ Basheer 2022

Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Located adjacent to the eastern gate to the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh, Gensler’s design for a new mixed-use development captures the essence of the neighborhood and the spirit of the city. The entertainment cluster houses a variety of programs Retail, Food & Beverage, Cinema, Bowling, and Offices. The ground level is designed as a free flowing, vibrant courtyard that opens outwards in every direction that invites passive movement of wind and shade from the exterior. The facades take their cue from the character of the Quarter. The influence of Sulaimani architecture reveals itself in our contemporary design with a refined palette of MiddleEastConsultant

This was the first sketch and the first space to envision with the concept of the canyon lines running across the mixed use development. It is a true testament to the concept and the idea was so strong and thoroughly maintained through the process of design as you can see on the left. The exterior limestone cladding match the traditional stone facades of the surrounding neighborhood. The facade surface begins as a relatively fat surface on the facades facing the road but transform into undulating strata bands in the central courtyard space. This undulation and subtle variety of colors throughout the facade promotes continual visual movement throughout the project.

Sol. City - A concept and brand developed to curate a picturesque oasis which allows oneself to escape from the urban pressures and hope to ease the treatment they have come to seek by integrating the ideology of calmness and ease into everything that we tend to ideate. This path to the future of healthcare and wellness spanning across 20000 acres of land and disconnected from the urban life.

The brand was carefully studied with the colors & symbols and all the concept was built around this brand. The exercise was interesting to understand the effects of colors , text and font - signage and way finding and also incorporating the brand into the various activities within the site.

AVENUES MALL Sharjah, United Arab Emirates Located in Sharjah adjacent to the highway - The Avenues mall has a great potential to capture the eye of the crowd passing by and the idea was to use the canopy to the the feature element in the design. Along the mall, three different districts with activities create the spaces where people can gather. The scheme proposes six evenly distributed escalator & lift cores. For way finding and strategic purposes; toilet blocks are found behind each primary core at ground. The mall responds to the residential side with the entrances placement, aligned to the streets. Two entrances also open up towards the highway side of the development. Gensler Year:

The Innovation Hub came to us as a pre-concept study for 2 weeks. There were some quick sketches and ideas poured into the table. The main design driver was that the building should be net zero and sustainable as this building represents the future branding of where the company is headed towards.

After studying the sites climatic and geographical study, the louver-wall-ceiling concept came about. The idea was to save energy by shielding the building from the strong desert heat during most parts of the day and getting as much north light into the building.

Creating a chocolate experience center for one of the finest chocolate brands in the UAE and middle east region was an incredible experience. The concept was unique in itself having to also create the branding and visualization of the spaces as we do the interior concept for the project. The experience center is part of the main factory and has a look into the factory in certain passage ways. The whole experience was meant to curate a one-of-akind experience for the people visiting the chocolate experience center.

The topic for Undergraduate Thesis - National Gallery of Modern Art for the city of Chennai. Although having a strong background and popularity for moder art lovers and artisans, Chennai is the only city that doesn’t have a NGMA - established institute for the modern arts. The aim of the research and dissertation was to find a powerful significance of how the institution can shape the future of modern galleries in the city and the impact on the artisans. The project was also located around the inner belt of the city and determinating the engagement factor with the people of the urban grid. Ahmed Basheer

The lines from the concept were derived from the existing site conditions. Every line extracted had a deeper meaning between site conditions, facing views and the concept of creating a modern art museum - first of its kind in the city. The elements were then carefully placed where each of the programs correlates with the site and its features. the aspect of the sea view was an added advantage to the concept to create communal spaces that enjoys the background of the beach-scenic view points. The length of the museum stretches along the linear part of the site to integrate maximum spaces for the indoor galleries. The outdoor atrium, amphitheater and podium spaces are left for the exterior art collection by the artisans. Overall, there is a hidden element of surprise at each turn around the development.

The mall was located in the suburbs of the new developing Kolkata. The concept was to incorporate a contemporary shopping destination fused with the cultural and architectural history of Bengal. Each material and element was well thought of and researched before being added on to the overall planning and development. The sustainable approach was to incorporate as much recycled building material from the neighboring sites as this was once a buzzing shoe factory which is now abandoned.

The aim of the study was to spend a 2 week stay in a remote village disconnected from the mean of urban/town grid. We chose the village of Udayalur near the town of Kumbakonam. It is a relatively smaller masterplan compared to neighborhood villages. The history of the village goes back an astounding 500 years. the houses are linear and are expanded in time the same linear way. The average age of residential housing would be between 80-200 years and hosting capacity for 3 generations. Most of the houses are now empty as most people have moved out to larger Above Street sketches from the village Below Enhanced door detail of a main street house Page 52 (Top)Typical House Street(Below)blockSketches

cities or countries. Each group was assigned to cover each aspect of the village from - visual arts, space planning, architecture, cultural significance, master plan, drainage & water. all these documents were them combined after returning back to the university and presented to the jury and staff about our detailed analysis and trying to take significant factors and apply it on modern day principles. This study aims to show the significance of planning from a small-scale detail to a large scale master plan and how there are factors affected in every level. The sketches above and in the next page are part of my contribution towards the visual arts group that i was a part of. Basheer
