Stolos is an international restaurant located in Volos, Greece.

N

ES

The concept for the interior was inspired by Greece being the third largest operaterative of the world’s total merchant fleet by the control of the Greek Merchant Navy. In Greece, the city of Volos is described as a coastal port city located in Thessaly.

Volos provides the only outlet to the sea serving as an important industrial center while its port provides a bridge between Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Volos provides a maritime setting for Stolos, a tavernas style restaurant. Stolos name origin in Greek is fleet meaning a group of steamships operating together under the same ownership.

The concept behind Stolos was to create an atmosphere inspired by Greece’ trading system through the use of port cities. Patrons will be exposed to an industrial setting with the mixture of smooth and rough surfaces as well as refined materials. The ships from the ports influence the flow of the restaurant with special design features that reflect the shapes and materials used within the ships.

Boutique Hotel

Horizontè Boutique Hotel is located in Miami, Florida. The concept behind Horizontè derives from Miami for having the cleanest air, which produces breathtaking sunsets in the horizon. The hotel design imitates the transcending effects of color from and lighting from twilight. Twilight refers to the period between the beginnings of dawn, technically described as when the sun is 18 degrees below the horizon, to sunrise – sun is at the horizon. It refers to the time between sunset and the end of dusk, when the sun is 18 degrees below the horizon.

WHERE CAMPUS MEETS COMMUNITY

I AT O N IM A

This collaborative project has allowed four disciplines to create a destination that provides a middle point to ease the small and big transitions in life, a vertex.

G ES

The location of this project is at a perfect middle point between the community of Starkville and the campus of MSU. From a literal perspective, the site location of this project meets at a point, emerging the idea of Vertex. The simple shape these three points made influenced the entrance facade as well as design elements in the interior.

Vertex is a flexible space that can display student artwork, products, and ideas, as well as can be used for studio space. It gives the students of Mississippi State University a tool and environment that allows them to advance from education to application. The student body that attends MSU engulfs the community of Starkville, Mississippi. Blending the two aspects of this area can be awkward. The new construction and renovation of the Visual Arts Center demonstrates a composite of tradition and innovation. Two structures that have been a part of MSU and Starkville for 80 years are now connected by a glass facade that is literal and symbolic in its design. A modified space frame was chosen as our interior structural system for our two-story gallery space. Being that all of the interior walls and floor of the building had been removed in order to create a larger space to display artwork, a new structural system was needed to withstand the lateral forces on the 22’ exterior walls. Instead of the walls acting each as an independent system, the entire structure is now analogous to a cross-braced box. From the framing system, there are also cavities in which light from the exterior light-wells can flow through as well as room to hang gallery lighting.

JEWELRY STORE

O N IM A

Selene is a high-end jewelry retailer that offers exquisite jewelry pieces that include precious gems and unique stone varieties. Selene is known for their wide selection of exclusive diamonds to satisfy the most diverse customer.

G ES

Selene’s name came from the term “selenite” meaning a form of gypsum occurring as transparent crystals. The Cueva de los Cristales in Naica Mine, Chihuahua, Mexico, contains the largest selenite crystals in the world. The crystals formed over millions of years in the mineral-rich geothermal heated water emanating from the magma chambers below the caves. The mineral crystals form and grow like arithmetic flowers that lengthen and spread, adding planes and absolute geometry. The physical representation of the selenite crystals show through the design in the floor plan as well as design features showing symmetrical geometry with ridged angles. The finishes within the design also reflects the concept behind the selenite crystals in the use of colors, textures, and natural stones within the flooring, ceiling, walls, and furniture pieces. In addition, the selenite crystals are mimicked in the branding of Selene with a cluster array of prismatic designs. The customer’s involvement in the purchasing of Selene’s products allows the customer to try something new that reflects their personality. People have many layers much like the mineral stones just as the rigid exterior appears but when exposed the stone reveals it is most beautiful organic state. Selene encourages patrons to be true to their selves and to find a treasure that can represent their own personality within the vast amount of gem assortment. Selene’s philosophy through immersion, reflection, and synergy all make up the unique and memorable experience for patrons. Nature allows the human senses to explore vibrant colors, tantalizing textures, salubrious smells, taste of crisp air, and soothing sounds such as water trickling. Time spent in nature can heal the body and spirit. Simple elements in nature remind us of the simple pleasures and provides an escape from stress to the natural elements. Sync Counseling Center was designed to mimic a natural environment inspired by nature to promote stability. The design called for a neutral color palette that corresponds with the colors found in nature using familiar textiles such as wood and stone to help with the nature concept design. With the use of Cooper Lighting, Sync Counseling Center allows the patients to sync ones’ mind to nature.

OPTOMETRY CLINIC

The design concept of Connect is inspired by the connection between the anatomy of they eye and human experience. The anatomy of the eye is composed of many independent parts that connect together. The tapetum lucidum layer, choroid/retina, and the lens/cornea layers all inspired the design of Connect.

N IM A G ES

The goals for the space are represented by reflection, focus, and nourishment. Customers come to the clinic for health checkups. The physicians provide treatment to the customer for them to stay nourished and healthy. The focus is always customers come first. Customers will experience reflection on the great environment and care.

The tapetum lucidum layer reflects light to the retina to allow the eye to focus while the lens takes the images and flips them to help with focusing. The choroid layer has branch-like nerves, arteries, and veins that supply the eye with nourishment. INDIVIDUAL PROJECT HEALTHCARE - OPTOMETRIST OFFICE

The design for the space is influenced by the customer demographic for this clinic which is more predominately the elderly. The clinic provides privacy for the customers with sound insulated walls and sound absorbing finishes. White noise is important for relaxation and will be provided in the waiting room. The area has a more monochrome color scheme allowing the visually impaired less distractions. The open floor plan is designed with minimal furniture allowing unrestricted mobility for people with disabilities and bad eye sight. The corridors are short providing an efficient way-finding system so customers do not get lost.

The beams symbolize the connectivity of the vascular membrane of the retina providing the eye with nourishment. The beams on the ceiling and the pattern on the floor help lead the customers to the exam rooms where the physician can care for them.

Futuresoft is a software company that programs the radar software that is used in the drone delivery system. Our company’s focus is tailoring to our customers’ needs in an effective and easier way of delivery. We put our customers first and we apply the same method to our employees.

IM A G ES

At FutureSoft, we focus on the wellbeing of our staff members as well as our patrons. Providing an atmosphere that is physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, occupational, social, and environmental allows our culture within the workplace to thrive. Organization is a must and with the possibility of our company expanding, our staff and environments need to show order. Collaboration is very important and our space adheres to a culturally diverse team that allows the introvert a special nook to collect their thoughts while also providing the extrovert with many lounge areas. Our offices are adorned with glass panels to help increase engagement and collaboration as well as social interaction amongst co-workers. The environment within the space reflects on FutureSofts’ brand and is also reflected in the finishes and furniture as well. The use of bringing the outside indoors allows a natural retreat from the hustle of the workplace. The radar mapping software influenced design elements and color choices within our space. Marker boards are seen throughout the space allowing one to write down a quick thought or encourage collaboration. The use of acoustical paneling and flooring helps provide a sound barrier for privacy as well as staying focused.
