Extenting the Soul of Sundbyberg studying project KTH with collaboration of ARKEN location : Sundbyberg, Stockholm team: Magdalena Bauer, Peter Skarpnord, Rebecca Miller 2015 The preject represents planning and design solutions applied to one part of a wider ongoing project
reduction of traffic along residential streets
in central Sundbyberg. Cut off by the railway tracks that are dividing the city of Sundbyberg, the chosen site has not been able to perform according to it’s central position within the city grid. The municipality’s plans to bury the tracks underground however finally provide the area with
Marabouparken
the opportunity of reconnecting it with it’s surrounding and furthermore contribute to a better connection between the city and the waterfront as well as the popular Marabouparken to the north. The project is aiming for the development of a mixed used area that seamlessly weaves into the existing urban fabric of a rich patchwork of typologies, whilst also defining its own identity.

building into the urban fabric of the city, which would not neglect the historical identity of Kyiv’s architecture , but instead would increase the value of the area and create new opportunities for users. The challenge is to create a mixed-use complex to meet the current needs of the community and provide a comfortable and practical space for a wide variety of community activities in order to create new scenarios for the district. The composition of the buildings is formed on one side around the slope of the hill Shchekavytsya. On the other side, the complex is a continuation of regular traditional blocks in the area, introduced by arch. Geste in the end of the XIX century. Nowadays, the bus station “Podil” is located on the site. Reconstruction of the bus station has no economic or social reasons, since the further development of tram lines along Verkhniy Val and Nyzhniy Val is considered by the municipality. main aims of the proposal: •

year: 2015 Space of Maidan and Kyiv city core must receive a new quality – a quality of the Territory of Dignity, giving each visitor a feeling of being an important member of the community, and at the same time its independent part. TERRA DIGNITAS is a combination of the past, the present and the future. Kaleidoscope of changes in the life of Ukraine and Kyiv over the last 100 year reflected on the city maps testifies to the need of returning to the traditional urban model: quarter – square – street. Instead of the demonstration of the state’s totalitarian ideology, the main focus should be aimed at urban life with its way of lifestyle, holidays and recreation.

Rybalskyi (Fishermen) cable-stayed bridge a bridge across the harbor of the Dnipro river, provides a link between Podil and Rybalskyi island. Has a length of 470 m, and a width of 10 m. Podil is a historical district in Kyiv, an ancient artisans area washed by Dnipro river. Narrow streets with small buildings, courtyards, churches of different architectural eras and religions are the features of this area. Although the bridge was decided to be dismantled in 2011, seems like the City Council has made no steps towards it. And it really turned the island into a deserted city. There is no clear and integrated approach to the bridge-related problem. Due to lack of any facilities on the bridge, due to its deterioration many city inhabitants do not even consider the possibility to use it. However, during the summer the bridge is a real attraction for different groups of the youth that go there to relax during warm summer evenings. Therefore, the

‘INTER‘ television and broadcasting centre type: project under construction location: Kyiv, Ukraine function: broadcasting centre, office team: Yuriy Borodkin, Segriy Nivin year: 2012 The main task was to create a new building for the INTER channel headquarter . The site is located in active administrative district in the city of Kyiv, and is bordered to the existing office building. The projected building is considered to become a part of the complex integrated by the mutual stylistic solution of the facades and by using analogical building materials. The structure of the new centre is determined by the supposed functionality. Thus, the core consists of the three diverse-dimension film sets encompassed by the technical and service rooms around the perimeter. Administrative and office rooms are located in the high part of the building, which is shifted to the back of the site in order to maintain the same altitude with the adjoining building at the facade line of the street. One of the challenges was to fit the big volume of the building into existing surroundings. In order to follow the current scale dictated by neighboring development, the facade has been meticulously gridded by glazing and subtle details.
