AGENDA DAY ONE: OCTOBER 3RD 10:15

PANEL DISCUSSION: FROM CLOUDS TO FOG, THE GLOBAL FORECAST FOR EDGE COMPUTING SYNOPSIS: As computing becomes cheap and ubiquitous, systems at the edge of the network will become increasingly pervasive and capable, promising to unlock vast potential in almost every industry. The edge is a world defined by hyper-scale and very large data which will place unprecedented strain on existing network infrastructure. This rapid scaling of systems and data will not accommodate traditional thinking or traditional architectures. Computing at the edge will become more localized, operate in real time and must be resilient in the face of the most demanding environments. The panel will explore current trends and technologies already in use and lift the fog surrounding this powerful wave of investment at the edge and the impact it will have on current business models. MODERATOR: Eric Klinker, Co-Founder & CEO of Resilio PANELLISTS: Christian Van Tuin, Chief Technologist of RedHat Dirk deRoos, Product and Competitive Strategy of IBM Analytics Platform Alessandro Vozza, Technical Evangelist of Microsoft Diego Alcoceba, Council Member & Global Account Director of Gerson Lehrman Group

11:00

PANEL DISCUSSION: BUILDING BRIDGES: CARRIERS CREATING PARTNERSHIPS FOR THEIR EVOLVING BUSINESS NEEDS QUESTIONS TO BE DISCUSSED: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

It is arguable that the stand alone network build is a thing of the past so the need for partnerships, alliances and consortia is now essential. Would the panel agree with this statement? Strategic partnerships sound great in theory but are difficult to execute successfully? What lessons can we learn from past failures (and success)? We live in a global world and we see cross-continental partnerships evolving more than ever, but does this create more difficulties given cultural, business, ethical and political differences? What are the major benefits and downsides to consortia? What examples can the panel think of, of something that has been done through an alliance or consortium that could NOT have been done otherwise? Is the partnership model a phase or is it here to stay?

MODERATOR: Stuart Evers, Chief Commercial Officer of Türk Telekom International PANELLISTS: Ravindran Mahalingam, Vice President, EMEA of HGC Conor Carroll, Senior Vice President, EMEA of Tata Communications Tim Passingham, Vice President, Wholesale of Colt Technology Services Tom Homer, Managing Director, EMEA of Telstra Shahar Steiff, AVP New Technology of PCCW Global

AGENDA DAY ONE: OCTOBER 3RD 14:45

PANEL DISCUSSION: DATA CENTERS & COLOCATION SERVICES – HOW ARE THEY MAKING WAVES IN SUBSEA CABLE OPTIMISATION? SYNOPSIS: For some time there has been a steady growth in the importance of data communications, with subsea cables increasingly carrying data traffic. Unsurprisingly, the big data users have also become the big purchasers of subsea systems and they are naturally bringing new thinking into what has been a very traditional market. This panel will discuss how this trend is changing things and will aim to examine some of the following questions:

What are the differences between data-centres, data-parks, data-hotels and how do they differ from traditional Points-of Presence / Central Offices?

• • •

To what degree do data-centres, data-parks, data-hotels drive subsea developments?

• • • • •

Are data-centres the right solution for all capacity users?

How do such centres or colocation affect the requirements of subsea systems? Has the proposed development objectives of multiple cables being terminated in a data-centre been fully considered in terms of network resilience and spatial planning? Is the interconnection to subsea landing stations an issue, or an opportunity? What sort of operation data does the data centre need to see? Does this change for a colocation user? If so, how? How do we see things changing in the future?

Questions and viewpoints from the audience will also be welcomed during the discussion. MODERATOR: Stephen Dawe, Vice Chairman of European Subsea Cables Association PANELLISTS: Andy Hudson, CNO of Aquacomms Fergus Innes, Managing Director, Europe of Ireland-France Subsea Cable Alasdair Wilkie, CTO of Deep Blue Cable Mike Hollands, Director, Market Development and Strategy of Interxion Tony Frisch, CTO of Xterra 15:30

CASE STUDY: ROCKING & DATA ANALYSIS AT THE ROSKILDE FESTIVAL SYNOPSIS: Everyone who has ever been to a large music festival knows first-hand about seemingly being lost at sea as crowds of people push you in a direction you do not necessarily want to go. How do you get to the stage with your favourite band, find your friends and an acceptably clean toilet? The Roskilde Festival, a yearly rock festival in Denmark, has lots of similarities with large cities where people get together for a bit of fun, sleep, eat ... and drink. Crowd managers are equipped with years of experience running festivals like this and they have established a good gut feeling on the behaviour of people in crowds and when/where it gets too busy. IBM and the Copenhagen Business School have run yearly hackathons around the festival to validate how data and analytics can help the organization to be more efficient and effective in the future. Frank will talk about the organization of the big data lab and its accomplishments, but also the challenges faced during the hackathons. SPEAKER: Frank Ketelaars, Data Science & Big Data Technical Lead — Europe of IBM Analytics

PANEL DISCUSSION: MEETING THE VIDEO CHALLENGE: EVOLVING TELCO AND ISP STRATEGIES SURROUNDING CONTENT DELIVERY NETWORK (CDN) ARCHITECTURE

Sponsored by:

SYNOPSIS: This session will explore the architectures and strategies that have been in use, and how they are evolving in increasingly virtualised networks. Including: • The scale of the problem (Video is now the dominant force behind bandwidth demand • The solutions that have been explored in the past 2 decades • The actors involved • New technologies (NFV / SDN / Containers / Microservice Architectures) • Specific focus on LTE-B / Multicast This panel will comprise a broad range of players from across the telecoms and broadcast sector. Discussion will focus on the changing landscape within the infrastructure and workflows that operators face as demand for content inexorably moves online. We will be asking the panel to talk about the growth in video traffic, how they have been meeting that demand, and how they expect that to progress into the future. We will help the audience understand the range of choices they have available to them to address various issues such as network planning and technical architectures that can help them remain agile in an ever changing market. We will look at market conditions touching on factors such as standards and interop, peering and network neutrality (and other regulatory and environmental factors that impinge on thier operations) and consumer trends that drive those changes. We will also see if there are any disruptive changes on the horizon to help the audience mitigate risk. MODERATOR: Dom Robinson, Co-Founder, Director & Creative Firestarter of id3as PANELLISTS: Markus Fritz, Executive Vice President of Eutelsat Wilfried Dudink, Director Content Solutions, EMEA Specialist Services of Level 3 Communications

AGENDA DAY TWO: OCTOBER 4TH 14:15

PANEL DISCUSSION: TOWARDS EDGE DATA CENTERS — NEW DRIVERS, DISRUPTORS AND THEIR IMPACT QUESTIONS TO BE DISCUSSED: • Exploring the ‘Edge’ where does it lie? • What are the defining factors, drivers and ultimate impact of the ‘Edge’? • Is the ‘Edge’ a truly new technology deployment or merely a new name for technology that has been with us for some time such in the form of CDN Networks etc? in this sense is the ‘Edge’ merely a marketing term or does it truly represent something new in response to increasing data sovereignty requirements, expectations for reductions in latency and proximal workload processing and how does ‘Edge’ relate to the wider ‘Cloud’? • It could be argued that the term “Edge Data Centre” does not really relate to a new phenomenon, but is rather a collective name for several different types of data centres which serve a number of different purposes, none of which are new, rather that these have been relatively unrecognised or “unclassified”, to date. Others would argue that the ‘Edge’ is entirely new and relates to very specific and separate elements within the ‘Cloud’, which offer new functions and features, particularly in relation to IoT and mobile services. MODERATOR: Mark Acton, Critical Services Director of CBRE Data Centre Solutions PANELLISTS: Mark Cooper, EVP Europe of Megaport Heiko Koop, CEO of Linxdatacenter Dirk deRoos, Product and Competitive Strategy of IBM Analytics Platform Mike Hollands, Director, Market Development & Strategy of Interxion Hans Timmerman, CTO of Dell EMC

15:00

PANEL DISCUSSION: GREEN DATACENTERS, PRIORITY OR NOT? QUESTIONS TO BE DISCUSSED:

• • • •

What is your companies contribution to make IT Greener? What kind of solutions are you implementing? Are you stimulating your members (datacenters) to invest in sustainable solutions? Customers’ priority is often 1. availability and 2. cost. Do we as IT suppliers have a responsibility to address Green IT towards our customers? Is there a role for the government? What is your vision for the future of Green datacenters?

MODERATOR: Gerben Ouwens, CCO of The Green Bay PANELLISTS: Narendra Sen, Managing Director of RackBank Datacenters Stijn Grove, Managing Director of Dutch Data Center Gerrit Godwaldt, CEO of The Green Bay 16:00
