Chapter 5 focuses on specific tools and approaches to help us heal through identifying and resolving deep-seated negative beliefs. The field of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) gives us a wonderful and faith-friendly toolbox full of techniques that allow us to see and reshape harmful beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors that have formed as a result of our experiences. This book will teach the reader how to apply these skills to their life and how to weave them into their spiritual life. Yet CBT does not resolve all wounds, particularly those that result from deep life disappointments, griefs, and traumas. Chapter 6 examines this reality, in particular the way they injure the brain and what strategies we can use to undo that damage according to current research.

Finally, Chapter 7 steps back and reflects on the healing path as a whole, revisiting certain general pitfalls and demonstrating how to continue making progress over the long term.

We are interconnected with one another; thus, nearly all our painful experiences involve another human being. As a result, we often emerge from these experiences with a damaged perception of humanity. One acutely painful experience has the ability to move to the forefront of all our experiences with humanity, causing our memories of positive interactions with others to fade. We begin to see life through the lens of this painful experience, and all of humanity can become suspect and no longer trustworthy. When this happens, we distance ourselves from others
