Andalucía’s Pivotal Year of Global Golf

Andalucía is currently experiencing an exquisite moment for golf, in both its touristic and purely sporting aspects.

On the one hand, the momentous figure of 50,000 federation members has been surpassed once again, something that has not happened since 2012. That was when the economic crisis provoked a period of decline in golf licence numbers in the Andalucian region, a situation that did not begin to improve until 2019.

From 2020 until the beginning of this year, growth in the number of licences has been more than 12 percent. Not bad.

On the other hand, average occupancy rates at most courses are extremely high, albeit with some exceptions. This year, and in 2022 as well, the virtual lines between high, mid and low seasons have been becoming increasingly blurred. Fortunately, there are no longer huge voids on golf courses during the low-season months. In fact, sometimes it is difficult to distinguish one seasonal period from another.

Unquestionably, Andalucía’s hosting of major world-class events in 2023 must have something to do with all this.

The promotion of our extensive and varied golf options and the introduction of new players to the game can be directly linked – in addition to other factors, of course – to the fact that Andalucía is once again an epicentre of international golf, highlighted by the LIV Golf League event at Valderrama and the Solheim Cup at Finca Cortesín.
