Vinyl replacement window are energy efficient, cost effective and require less maintenance. Its installation needs few basic tools and skills. Here we have listed steps to install a vinyl replacement window. Step 1: Measurement Proper measurement is crucial to get the perfect energy efficiency for your home. Any energy efficient window needs accurate measurements to fit tight and right in order for it to provide the maximum efficiency. Take the measurements from inside your home. Make sure that your new window fits correctly in the existing window frame.
Step 2: Remove old sashes Remove sashes, parting bead and inside stop from the old window frame. It’s a good idea to install your window from inside your home. It makes the work easier and safer and gives you a better fit. Remove the inside stops and then remove the sash. Store the stop pieces for later use. Do not remove exterior stops. Clean the windows jambs thoroughly.
Step 3: Install new window Make a caulk bead along the inner sides of the outside stop. Mark the sill angle and install it. Place the top and bottom sashes in upright position in such a way that all four mounting holes going into the jambs are visible. Put the expander on the top of the window and caulk it. Square the window and place it in the opening. Install screws at top and bottom of the side jamb. Seal the header to fill the gap between old frame and new window. Reinstall the inside stops and caulk the inside of the window. Check for the smooth operation of the new replacement window. If it is not functioning properly, refer to the manufacturer’s manual.
