April 2019

Celebrate National Poetry Month National Poetry Month was created in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets to broaden interest and appreciation of our nation’s poets and poetry. Celebrate poetry month all April long with us. Read poetry. Check out collections by poets Billy Collins, Jacqueline Woodson, Ron Rash, Maya Angelou, and more. Browse through the 811 area in the nonfiction section for poetry anthologies. Write poetry. Get help writing your own poetry with rhyming dictionaries and how-to guides. Ask a library staff member for assistance locating these resources. At the Iva, Honea Path, and Anderson Main Libraries, create poems using words cut out of magazines throughout the month. Teens can make blackout poetry with 3D pens at 5:00pm on Tuesday, April 9 at Electric City Creative on the second floor of the Anderson Main Library. Listen to poetry. At 6:30pm on Monday, April 29 come to the Anderson County Library’s Sixth Annual Poetry Contest reception at the Anderson Main Library. Listen to the winning poems and other submissions, pick up your preordered Anderson County’s Sixth Annual Poetry book, and enjoy light refreshments.

All locations will be closed for Easter on Sunday, April 21. STAR WARS CELEBRATION
