Atlantic Canada

The unique hospitality of the maritime provinces of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland & Labrador offers sea coast traditions and old-world charm. Explore historic sites, stunning coastline, lively music and festivals.

Meat Cove | Tourism Nova Scotia / Tom Cochrane

Atlantic Canada

Nova Scotia – Nova Scotia is home to stunning natural beauty, an exciting and diverse culture, rich heritage and breathtaking experiences. There is no shortage of world-class attractions to explore - from UNESCO World heritage sites like Old Town Lunenburg and the landscape of Grand Pré to the historic Halifax Citadel national historic site and one of the world’s most scenic drives - the Cabot Trail. Outdoor enthusiasts can canoe the tranquil ancient waterways at Kejimkujik National Park or try tidal bore rafting –an energizing ride on the highest tides in the world. Culinary inspiration doesn’t stop with land and sea. Check out the wineries, microbreweries and distilleries around Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia may be Canada’s secondsmallest province, but it’s massive when it comes to the world of adventure and activities that await.

New Brunswick – A true coastal experience that marries the land and the sea - this maritime province is known for its quaint fishing towns, coastal islands to dense forests that host many species of wildlife. The famous Bay of Fundy is located in New Brunswick, a remarkable place where you can see the sea floor emerging with the outgoing tide every day. The Bay of Fundy has the world’s largest range where the sea level rises and falls by up to 13 mtrs. or more than 40 ft every day. Breathtaking views of incredible high tides can be had by kayaking, hiking or beachcombing along the magnificent coastline. Another must-see is the Acadian coast, dotted with seaside communities of French heritage with a 400 year history. In August, don’t miss National Acadian Day, a celebration of the colourful spirit of the Acadie. Here you can enjoy amazing festivities paired with fresh seafood and cold beer, a staple experience for anyone looking for an authentic Canadian setting to taste the salty air of the Atlantic.

Prince Edward Island – There is something special that you feel when you’re on an island. You may recognize it, but you may not be able to totally explain it. Could it be the red cliffs that line the sandy beaches, is it the salt in the air or is it the smell of fresh-cut timothy. The way of life on the island is relaxing yet stimulating, stress-free and refreshing! PEI may be a small province but it offers a surprising abundance of activities and unique adventures - enjoy an evening performance of “Anne of Green Gables - The Musical”, explore French history at Roma at Three Rivers National Historic Site, learn about the history and culture of the potato at the Canadian Potato Museum or explore all that the PEI National Park has to offer.

Newfoundland & Labrador – Picture yourself standing on the most easterly point in all of North America; Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site in Newfoundland and Labrador, a place of dramatic beauty and irrepressible charm…bragging rights! Humpback whales and 10,000-yearold icebergs (seasonal) travel the majestic coastline amongst millions of soaring seabirds. Visitors to this province are offered an array of activities where locals share their stories and delightful cuisine in picturesque fishing villages with colourful architecture. Learn of European migration at the Viking site of L’Anse Aux Meadow (UNESCO) in the 10th century, long before Christopher Columbus and his Spanish explorers. Be aweinspired in Gros Morne National Park (UNESCO), with towering inland fjords and lush park walking trails. Take part in a traditional lively ‘Screech In’ ceremony featuring traditional music, a Codfish, and a taste of the famous Newfoundland Screech as you become an honorary Newfoundlander! Stroll one of the oldest port cities in all of North America – St. John’s where local artisans display distinctive creations inspired by both contemporary and century-old traditions.

Northwest Territories

View awesome displays of Aurora Borealis, drive across the Arctic Circle to the amazing Mackenzie Delta or hike a national park at the top of the world. The possibilities are endless.

Aurora Borealis | Northwest Territories Tourism

Northwest Territories

Yellowknife – Here you’ll find it all: Skyscrapers rearing up from the outcrops, casting long shadows over Great Slave Lake. Sailboats tacking through the gleaming waves and floatplanes looping in the cloudless sky. A festival in an ice-palace, and a music concert on a sandy lakeshore. A clutch of houseboats, bright and offbeat and rocking gently on the swells. A smorgasbord of flavors: Ethiopian restaurants, sushi joints, and wine bars that serve muskox burgers. Log cabins beside mansions beside houses shaped like teepees. Visitors from Japan, Toronto, Tuktoyaktuk. And a whole bunch of friendly, off-beat locals, making their home and enjoying their time in the biggest little city in Canada.

Western Arctic – The Arctic is a land of icons: Polar bears. Reindeer. Treeless tundra, sprawling to infinity. High Arctic islands, reaching toward the pole. Beluga. Muskoxen. An ocean, frozen in place, gleaming in the nightless spring. It’s all here, along with the people who call it home – the Gwich’in and Inuvialuit, who’ve thrived here for eons along the mouth of the Mackenzie River and the flanks of the Northwest Passage.

Sahtu – The beating heart of the North. Here in the trackless core of our territory, the frantic outside world has not arrived, and possibly never will. This is the home of a grand inland sea, Great Bear – nearly 500 metres deep, slithering with colossal trout, cliff-flanked, and salted with alluring place-names: Conjuror Bay, Grizzly Bear Mountain, the Scented Grass Hills.

Dehcho – Dehcho means “big river” – referring to the great Mackenzie, 1,600 kilometres long and as much as five kilometres wide, sluicing relentlessly toward the Arctic sea. Flanking the current: The foothills and spires of the Mackenzie Mountains are home to not one but two national park reserves, Nahanni and Nááts’ihch’oh –jewels in Canada’s crown and destinations on every paddler’s life-list. Despite all this wilderness, the Dehcho is within easy reach. The region is accessible by air and road from Yellowknife. Moose, bison, and black bears ramble the dusty roadsides. And traditional villages thrive – outposts of Dene, Métis, traders, bush pilots and more, whose friendly faces and the low-key pace will pacify your soul.

North Slave – The North Slave is a place of opposites: A vast lake and the rock-ribbed shield. Dense boreal forests and the wide-open Barrenlands. Ultra-modern industries and lifeways older than history.

South Slave – Gateway to the wild frontier. It’s a place of big waters, including gleaming Great Slave Lake, home to Canada’s northernmost freshwater fishery. The South Slave is also a place of big wildlife and wild sanctuaries – especially the roaming herds of bison, endangered whooping cranes and regal wolves of Wood Buffalo National Park.

Nunavut

Nunavut is the youngest territory of Canada, settled over four thousand years ago, recognized as distinctly Canadian in 1999. It is one of the largest unspoiled natural paradises on the planet. People from everywhere visit Nunavut to enjoy the arctic wildlife and the Inuit way of life, to explore the top of the world and be dazzled by the vivid dancing hues of the Aurora Borealis.

Arctic Bay – a vibrant, traditional community located in the northwest corner of Baffin Island. This safe harbour hamlet is situated upon a south-facing gravel beach on Adams Sound, which feeds into Admiralty Inlet, draining northwards to Lancaster Sound and the Northwest Passage.

Iqaluit – located on Baffin Island at the northern end of Frobisher Bay near the mouth of the Sylvia Grinnell River. Formerly known as Frobisher Bay, the modern city of Iqaluit is rich with traditional Inuit culture. It is the home of many Inuit artists, filmmakers and musicians, plus there are arts and culture festivals staged in the spring and summer that bring artists here from across the territory.

Pond Inlet – also called ‘Mittimatalik’ in Inuktitut after an unknown ancient person presumed to be buried here, Pond Inlet is a traditional Inuit community located on the northern tip of Baffin Island near the eastern entrance to the Northwest Passage. It overlooks Eclipse Sound and the mountains of Bylot Island, which is a migratory bird sanctuary. Situated near scenic fjords, glaciers and icebergs, Pond Inlet is famous as a great place to see large pods of narwhal.

Resolute – known as ‘Qausuittuq’ in Inuktitut, which means the ‘place with no dawn’ because of the long winter night this far north. It is also the ‘place with no sunset’ in the summertime! Resolute is the second most northerly community in Nunavut and Canada. The many little islands and big arctic waters nearby are special habitats for numerous nesting birds and large migrating pods of beluga whales. Resolute is home to some of the greatest Inuit hunters in the world.

1) Cancel of a tour before final payment (61+ days): your deposit is non-refundable. We strongly suggest that you have comprehensive travel insurance in place to cover any financial losses should you need to cancel for unforeseen reasons.

2) Cancel of a tour after final payment, and before 30 days prior to departure (60-30 days): a future travel credit will be offered for all payments received, that can be used towards any Anderson Vacations tour departing within the following 12 months. Cancellation fees and non-refundable payments made to other travel service providers, if any, will be deducted. These are typically thirdparty non-refundable payments made to hotels, railways, and other travel services by Anderson Vacations to secure travel arrangements on the client’s behalf.

3) Cancel of a tour within 30 days of departure (29-0): No refunds or travel credits will be given. We strongly suggest that you have comprehensive travel insurance in place to cover any financial losses should you need to cancel for unforeseen reasons.

Please note:

Some suppliers’ cancellation policies can vary, including cruise lines and rail companies. You will be responsible for all additional cancellation fees imposed by such providers of service over and above the Anderson Vacations cancellation fees. These cancellation fees are required to offset booking, communication, and administrative charges which have already been incurred by us, suppliers and your travel agent. Cancellation fees imposed by suppliers and travel agents are beyond our control and you should check with your travel agent regarding what cancellation fees may be applicable.

Regrettably cancellation charges cannot be waived. There will be no exceptions. No refunds on unused services after departure from the original city. Travel Health, Cancellation and Interruption insurance is strongly recommended to avoid financial losses.

Travel Insurance:

Anderson Vacations STRONGLY RECOMMENDS adequate and comprehensive travel insurance to all persons travelling to all destinations. Travel insurance can be purchased to cover penalties in the event you need to cancel or change your travel plans due to unforeseen circumstances. Travel insurance can also provide medical and emergency assistance protection during travel, as well as loss and delay coverage. Visit your travel agent or call one of our insurance specialists for details. If you do not carry travel insurance, all medical expenses, and losses due to weather and unforeseen changes are entirely your responsibility. No refunds for unused or changed travel arrangements will be provided in these circumstances.

Visas/Passports:

Holding valid travel documents is the responsibility of the traveller. A passport valid for six months beyond date of travel is required for entry into Canada and several other countries. Visa-exempt foreign nationals are expected to have an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through Canada. If you require an eTA you can apply for this online. Please discuss this with your travel agent or one of our specialists at time of booking.

Documentation:

Travel vouchers, tickets, departure details and supplier addresses will be provided as part of our final tour documentation. All documentation is sent electronically. These are tickets and as good as cash. Lost vouchers will require a $50.00 processing fee to resend.

Is there a charge for small groups (under ten participants)?

We pride ourselves on providing “a small shared group experience.” In the event that we have fewer than ten participants on a tour we will offer a “small-group surcharge” to ensure that the tour runs as scheduled. This fee, which is 15% or less of the “land” portion of the tour, will be offered to you as an option to continue with the trip. This fee will cover the costs associated with handling a smaller group.

Responsibilities:

Anderson Vacations acts only as an agent for the owners and contractors providing transportation, accommodation or other services and is not responsible or liable for any loss, damage or injury, delay or accident due to an act of default of any company engaged in providing service included in these packages. The right is reserved to decline or accept any person requesting a travel package or to refuse to retain a member of a group or individual travel program. Scheduled changes may occur. Anderson Vacations management reserves the right to make any adjustments in plans which may be necessitated due to situations not under our control.

Itinerary Changes:

Our tours are planned 1-2 years in advance and occasionally the program may need to be adjusted, or schedule changes may occur. Anderson Vacations reserves the right to make such adjustments in the program as may be necessitated due to circumstances beyond our control before or during the tour for the overall safety, comfort, and enjoyment of our travellers. Any changes made to the itinerary will be communicated to all passengers affected by the change in advance of the departure of the tour.

Force majeure: Anderson Vacations is not responsible for any additional costs, claims, losses, damages, expenses, delays, or loss of enjoyment of any nature or kind whatsoever resulting from any events caused by circumstances not under our or our suppliers’ reasonable control. This includes but is not limited to weather, strikes, cancelled or delayed transportation, fuel surcharges, labour disputes, riots, blockades, wars, health pandemics, terrorist attacks, earthquakes or restraints imposed by government authorities. We may cancel departures if forced to do so by circumstances of what is commonly referred to as force majeure. If cancellation occurs within the 60-day period, we will offer to postpone your trip to another similar departure within 12 months of the original tour start date; or, if circumstances do not permit, an alternative will be offered at that time of notice. We will not be responsible for costs associated with re-issuance or extension of visas, airline change fees, or for any compensation. We strongly recommend that all travellers purchase trip cancellation insurance, either through Anderson Vacations or elsewhere, as this may provide coverage under such circumstances.
