Greetings from Indonesia Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelago country with 17.508 islands, some 6.000 of which are inhabited. Its five largest islands are Java, Sumatera, Borneo, Sulawesi, and Papua. With the population of approximately 253 million people, Indonesia remains ethnically diverse, with over 300 ethnic groups and more than 700 local dialects in practice.


About Palembang

Palembang, the capital city of South Sumatra province in Indonesia. It is one the oldest cities in Malay Achipelago and Southeast Asia. Palembang is the allocated in Musi River banks on the east coast of southern Sumatera, with a land area 374.03 square kilometres. Palembang is split by the Musi River, which can be crossed over the Ampera Bridge, which serves as a means of transport transport and trade across the river.


The local language of Palembang, Musi, belongs to the same group as Malay. Palembang’s primary religion is Islam, but many inhabitants also practice Chiristianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Confucianism. Since ancient times, Palembang has been a cosmopolitan port city which absorbs neighboring, as well as foreign, cultures and influences. The influences and culture of coastal Malay, inland Minangkabau, Javanese, Indian, Chinese, and Arab has been created a rich Palembang Culture.


Project Background Project Duration 6 weeks Project Realization 9 May – 21 June 2017

This project goals are promote culture in South Sumatra to foreigners and Indonesian’s citizen itself through Small Medium Enterprise (SME). The exchange participant (EP) will learn culture South Sumatra and will help the SME in Palembang by showing case to EP’s social media and sharing with the SME itself. Besides that, EP will have culinary visitation to taste many traditional foods and learn how to make it by themselves. The exciting thing is, EP will have a visitation to ancient Island called as Kemaro Island and The Famous Bridge called as Ampera Bridge.


What impact will you give to the society 1. Let the world know about Indonesian culture

After this project ends, the interns are expected to introduce Indonesian culture to the their country that they have learned and promote through webseries during the project.

2. To make an actual impact to local people

This project involve developments of Palembang people. Through the process you will be able to meet with the local people, develop them and the society to be better and in the process you will also develop yourself.



Job describtion

1. Take a documentation (photo or video) during the project in Palembang. 2. Update it on your all social media every week. 3. Organize main event. 4. Give a presentation about culture in your country. 5. Having a sharing to SME that will be visited.
