INTERVIEW
x L EX P OTT
LOOKBOOK SS 2025
Where does your passion for design come from? Is there a specific moment or event in your life that led you to choose design? It started in my childhood. My father was a painter, and my mother was a sculptor. I grew up surrounded by museums, exhibitions, and making things myself. As a child, I was already doing a lot of crafts. Honestly, not much has changed since then—I’m still doing it. An important condition during my teenage years was that I wanted to earn my income through my creations. Someone

once said, "Take a look at the Design Academy Eindhoven." When I walked around the Graduation Show, I just thought: I don’t know exactly what they do here, but I want to do this too. The big difference compared to my upbringing is that design is applied art. In other words, artistic freedom in relation to function, everyday objects, and reproduction. It’s especially the reproduction that still strongly captures my imagination. Where do you find inspiration for your designs—nature, art,

architecture, or something unexpected? Actually, quite the opposite. Routine and my daily activities make me see everyday things differently. Inspiration doesn’t just come flying in from the universe; it’s the result of working, studying, and looking at my daily routine in a different way. Often, the best ideas lie in things that seem the most obvious and straightforward. Additionally, I’m very hands-on. It’s precisely through making that I come up with ideas I couldn’t have thought of in advance. Inspiration is
BURO BERGER
Lex Pott is a designer known for his experimental approach, blending materials, colour, and intuition. Raised in an artistic environment, he thrives on hands-on creation and exploration. His designs, like the Bole candle holder, emerge organically through experimentation, collaboration, and personal fascination. In this interview, Lex discusses his creative process, inspirations, and the importance of authenticity in his work.
BURO BERGER
LOOKBOOK SS 2025
We are big fans of the design of the Bole candle holder. How did you come up with this idea? By playing with glass, colour, and composition. I have a lot of laboratory glass in my studio. Borosilicate glass. It’s very strong, heat-resistant, and beautifully thin. It often comes in standard cylinders and geometric volumes. I sprayed these transparent shapes in different colours in my studio and then started making collages with them. In the computer, it would look too simple and boring. But by creating these compositions in real life and working intuitively with colour, it immediately came to life. That’s when I knew we were onto something good.
everywhere and nowhere. If you had to describe your design style in three words, which would they be? Experimental, material, colour. Can you tell us more about your work process? Hands-on. By making, I understand material and colour. On a screen and in the computer, everything seems possible. In real life, I learn the most. In my small
workshop, I have everything to experiment with and build a materials library. This library of tests and processes often serves as the starting point for developing projects. Additionally, ideas often need to mature. Like a good wine, an idea sometimes needs time to fall into place. New projects often arise very intuitively and logically. Through this free work, the best ideas often emerge.
044
What does your workspace look like? Is it organized chaos, minimalist, or something in between? I would say reasonably well-organized. Everything is in bins, on shelves, and because I have a compact space, organization is crucial. The work tables are often a delightful chaos. That’s where the magic happens. The studio is tidy, and the work tables are full of tests and samples.

BURO BERGER
Can you discuss a specific project or piece that you are particularly proud of and explain the story behind it? That is almost always something I created without a commission. The freedom of creation is crucial. By following my intuition and personal fascination, the most exciting projects often emerge. This method of free work often leads to collaborations and things that go into production. I am most proud of this way of working, and it also offers many opportunities for the future. My portfolio is quite diverse, and I would like to keep it that way. I also like to surprise myself. What is your favorite activity besides working as a designer? Sitting by the fireplace, watching a live fire, seeing the flames, and feeling the warmth. This makes me feel very calm, and I also really enjoy the smell. In short, all the senses are gently stimulated in a relaxing way.

BURO BERGER
What motivated you to collaborate with Buro Berger? The people. Buro Berger stands for distinctive design and individuality. These were the things that initially appealed to me. The space you get as a designer to truly collaborate. The people are crucial to the culture. This culture within Buro Berger is very pleasant, personal, and professional. Ultimately, everything is about people, and working together leads to a long-lasting and enjoyable relationship. Additionally, Buro Berger really adds something to the landscape of design. Individuality and a signature. They dare to make statements in authenticity...
