Housing in Trastevere Dwellings in via dei Salumi 39, Rome, 2012

The historical center gives rules about building alignments and materials, typology and hierarchy, which the projects reworks in a contemporary and innovative way. The project also inserts an original “disturbing� element, in the architecturally homogeneous context of the center of Rome: the last floor of the building combines the terrace and the pitched roof, with a copper covering, that, in addition to conferring uniqueness and contrast, it Duplex is fundamental for the bioclimatic 147 m2 functioning, favoring the internal ventilation Simplex of the wall. 68two m2 units, The housing division provides a simplex and a duplex, and a commercial Commercial ground floor. The apartments, respectively 68 mq and 147 mq, aim 64 to m2 make the most of the available areas and views, often adopting specific furnishing solutions for each case.

Housing in Anagnina 120 social dwellings in Rome east suburb, Rome, 2015

Suburbs are often related to bad architecture, but in this neighborhood the strong presence of the nature can influence social and architectural aspects. The social dwelling typology aims to integrate different kinds of green spaces on all layers: in the courtyard, designing a semi public park, on the distribution balconies, a socials covered spaces, faced on the courtyard and on the green roof, shaped as a greenhouse. The buildings propose a very large choice of different kind of dwellings, from two to four people each, depending from the bigness and the position. This choice allows, financially, to all kinds of family units to get an apartment in a very qualified urban and landscaping context. +18.85

Xi’An’s inner residential districts are facing lacking of services and urban quality, despite its doubtless condition of urban centrality. The Bei Lin block is one of those cases. The traditional chinese red ribbon, as inspiration image of the project, was applied to urban landscape in order to shape new public spaces inside a consolidated urban reality. The project is composed by only one steel made element that runs from the existing facilities and urban attractions through dense residential blocks. This new element gives a function to many meaningless urban spaces, offering to local people new facilities and enhancing the local quality of the neighbourhood.

Bei Lin district revitalization Local market and 32 social dwellings in the Xi’An historical centre, Xi’An, 2017

The projects aims to revitalizing the neighbourhood with many careful architecture interventions, which consists, in part, designing a local market and a new system of 32 social and commercial dwellings. The market aims to support the daily life of local people, and also valorize the touristic area inserting new functios supporting and increasing the touristic activities inside the block. The market aims to maintain direct contact with the street, an essential characteristic for commercial activities, and at the same time to create a new, more intimate space. Even the new dwellings keep a strictly relationship with the street. The design method is based on a modular matrix. The use of the module is dictated by the fact that, in the Chinese context, commercial function and residential function coincide within the same space of daily life.

The new centre has three hierarchical separate covered wooden structures : within the larger one there are functions related to cultural activities, while the other two are occupied by offices and toilets. A small courtyard can be flexibly used for cultural representations and other activities. The wooden structure is designed by several independent spans arranged in series, creating only the illusion of a closed envelope. The small rooms in masonry host the training activities, also collaborating in a fundamental way organizing the space below the structure, creating small covered voids.

“Urban seed� Cochabamba Refugee camp for Bolivian rural communiRefugee Camp ties fleeing by food insecurity, Bolivia, 2018

Suffering by expropriations and soil consumption, rural Bolivian people are being forced to continually migrate, becoming the most vulnerable community among the South America, suffering from lacks of health assistance, malnutrition and social discrimination. The camp aims to organize a fundation of a future urban settlement, being easily disposable or recoverable, and to respond immediateley to the food crisis for about 8.000 people. Local shared agriculture pose itself as main point of the design process, making able all individuals to be owners of a piece of cultivable land, in order to supply to food insecurity.

Bidibidi Camp

The program “Tree-conomy” aims to start a social and environmental process in Bidibidi camp that will permit to people to achieve self-sufficiency not only in food production but also in the economic field. Each action inside the program is accompained by tree-planting, in order to reforestate the entire area, fighting against land consumption and desertification. The main element ,“the Hub” is a green incubator hosting stockage places, farming facilities and education activities. “The Hub” is realized with the local knowledges and with the aim to enhance local work and participation.

The shelter issue inside the biggest refugee camp on the planet has an incisive role on daily life in Cox Bazar. Many of health and security problems are directly related to the way the setllements are planned and shelter design, structurally weak in many cases and extremeley vulnerable to bad weather conditions. Starting from a proper choice of the site, safe from frequent floods and strong winds, the project aims to propose a new kind of modular shelter, that respects local needs and skills, using local materials and using a limited amount of resources from humanitarian response. 4 cm

The disaster that afflicted northern Italy last 2018 has struck not only the anthropic and artistic works, but also and above all the natural heritage of the valley, the real victim and the reason today we talk about “environmental catastrophe”. Through architecture, people are able to bring to life these damaged places and restore the affected environmental heritage by spreading the remaining fragments of the disaster. The project takes inspiration from these “fragments”, giving formal and material meaning to the new buildings populating the valley, from the historical Villa Strobele to the majestic landscape of the Malga Costa.
