NEW THERMAL BATHS
UNIVERSITY PROJECT
NEW THERMAL BATHS
The residual urban emptiness as the (new) vital organ for the entire city.” The project fits into an historical area of the Adriatic city, already subject to international contests, which was born as result of the construction of the new train station. The area is actually an empty urban space, deprived of a final end use and it has become a parking area, until a wise city planning is able to give it the right opportunity for rehabilitation. The position, so strategic and central, makes it the invisible door of Pescara. For these reasons the roots of the project proposal are in the pre-existing urban areas, as to testify its sense of belonging and to show how the nodes of the city may give new life to the “non-places”. Inspired by the ancient thermal baths, which embodied the concept “mens sana in corpore sano”, the functional program contains inside, cultural activities and sporting events. Its complexity indeed determines its wealth, thought with the aim of offering opportunities of social interactions to all different age groups and being the social condenser of the city.

THE HOOP
Our strategy, which focused on the existing conditions of Suncheon City, response to our adaptabily and temporariness vision of the project. Our vision, that embrace the theme of adaptable and autorganizative city, propose devices aimed to improve Suncheon City. Within the project area, suggested by the brief, we propose a plaza -a living room- characterized by the absence of construction. This empty space, whithout buildings, is an exception into the sorroundings urban and provides a new connection among nature and artificial. The volumes of Suncheon’s Art platform are underground and the plaza is defined by hypogeum courtyards. One of them is directly connected with the underground shopping center. The art platform and the plaza are connected by a circular cover, with an iconic design that establish an identity for the City of Suncheon. The cover’s pattern symbolize the Yundo, a type of compass, necessary for feng shui experts to interpret the Earth’s energy. The circular cover, also connect the volumes of Art platform to the wider contest, to the underground shopping center and to the Ok-cheon riverbank. The riverbank is marked by two walls, that are the reminiscent of the Suncheon historical trails. Between the walls there is the new Yeonja-Ru. The new Yeonja-Ru is characterized by a small belvedere and by a “Gold Leaf”. Suncheon’s energy

LEARNING FROM EXPERIENCES

LEARNING FROM EXPERIENCES
The goal of our project is to give the children the possibility to learn trhought their experiences. The concept starts from what we consider important for a child: The Game. In fact by playing children discover the world, compare themselves with it and with other people, developing the features that make them different from each others. In the name of this diversity, the project expresses itself. It’s composed by few elements, wich give special dynamism, needed to create an exciting space, that change constantly. A beams twire cover the big space, but the volumes and the activities around them, are the ones which attract the users. On the groundfloor tha space is completly flexible, and here children can move freely and get experiences following the totem. At mid height a pathway links directly the abstarct shapes, creating a more reserved space for private lessons. On top of the roof a huge park stands on, among the iconic shapes, creating an abstract space, composed by shapes and colors, where children interact and give space for their desires, in a place one more time free. The important thing of this project, for us, was to have a dynamic and changeble environment, and to show how the different areas mixed together, were able to offer different emotions and experiences to the child, as they can fell when they play in a park. New way of learning at school

DON’T STOP MY HOUSE
WORKSHOP
DON’T STOP MY HOUSE
Abandoned carapace in the winter, monster with tentacles in the summer.” As habits change over time, so the dwelling changes its shape for adapting to new functions. The project has arisen from the considerations made about the contemporary life style and its variability, translating itself into a dwelling capable of increasing or decreasing its surface. A big fixed box characterized by a coating of gabions in the façade, contains inside three modules, kept in the winters but can be puttled out in the summers to increase the available surface. The focal point of the project is the spatial flexibility. It gives new interpretation to the typical dry stone buildings of Salento, through shapes and materials. Moreover, from a climatic point of view, the summer open configuration enables the heat dissipation, exposing more surface with the outside, while the winter compact configuration keeps the warmth in the inside.

THE CUBE
The project is a message of hope and rebirth for those who are in a difficult moment of their lives, whether they are patients, family members or friends. The aim is to create a place where patients and their loved ones have the chance to establish a real bond with people who share the same conditions. Here hence his simple and essential form, the cube. It’s bright. It’s harmonious. It’s pure. Architecture and nature intertwine here. The outside of the place is characterized by a park which embraces the whole area and by a more intimate and paved space, located in front of the Oncological Research Centre, which enlarges the closed space. The inside of the place is characterized by a courtyard, the key of the project, which allows to light up the building and to provide a place of sanctuary and relief. The plan is organized so that people can feel at ease, at home, as part of a community. The cube, in its front, is embraced by a white wire mesh which reflects the interior spaces and their sense of intimacy.
