About Burning Man is an annual event held in the Western United States at a temporary city erected in the Black Rock Desert, Black Rock City. It was first held 32 years ago in 1986 on Baker Beach in San Francisco as a small party organized by Larry Harvey and a group of friends. The community that attends this event explores the idea of “participation” and “selflesness” with interactive art, performances, buildings, and whatever attendants choose to give. The name Burning Man comes from the Ritual they perform the saturday of the Festival where they burn a large wooden structure which represents “The Man”.
