l am a young architect with four years of experience working in architectural office in Bratislava. I consider myself creative and enthusiastic designer and my logical thinking enables me to see the project through to completion. Architecture for me is not just about creating something beautiful. It is about creating better living environment. I try to avoid standart or obvious solutions and look at the things from other perspectives by deep understanding of place and context within project. I look for the opportunity to work on larger scale projects at international level as I am always opened to learning and improving myself.

URBAN DURBAN location: Durban, Warwick Junction, South Africa year: 2013/2014 type: competition team: Ing. arch. Lenka Bakošová, Ing.arch. Andrea Javorková coordinator: Ing. arch. Katarína Boháčová, PhD. The subject of UIA 2014 International Student Competition was a unique location of Warwick Junction, placed within central Durban. Durban is the third biggest city in South Africa, a popular tourist destination and the busiest port in whole African continent. Warwick Junction triangle, the most important traffic spot, lies on the edge of Durban´s inner city. Given a fact that there is a confluence of railway, bus and taxi transport, this vibrant node naturally provides a setting for predominantly informal traders at an unprecedented scale. That comes with other problems of this area, such as crime, lack of affortable accomodation, storage facilities and services. In the light of competition´s motto „Looking elsewhere for other ways of creating a better future“ we tried to explore OTHER practice, crossovers between disciplines to find a ways to strengthen, reinforce and expand these systems in beneficial way. The primary aim was to better understand the dynamics of informal trade in order to formulate a design strategy and approach to address traders on this site. The idea was to integrate rather than segregade. To go beyond formal and informal by creating one collaborative system. To recognize the unique identity of Warwick Junction through hybrid linear approach. By incorporating of informal trade into the inner city structure this project demostrates that it is possible to include street traders in urban plans in a way that adds vitality and attraction to the city. New city boulevard connecting transport hub with Durban beachfront have a potential to become place of vibrant commertial exchange and social interaction. It sees spaces for informal traders with varying degrees of control and freedom.

CULTURE SQUARE location: Šafarik square, Bratislava, Slovakia year: 2014/2015 type: academic team: Ing. arch. Andrea Javorková coordinator: Ing. arch. Andrea Alexy After closing and subsequently demolishing of PKO (Park of Culture and Relaxation), Bratislava, capital city of Slovakia lacks any kind of multifunctional place providing spaces for various cultural events. The task was to recreate this important city feature on new site. Location selected for this project was Šafarik square. Square itself represents an unfilled gap in othewise compact downtown city structure. City block as basic unit of a city´s urban fabric becomes a central edges defining element of new Culture Square. Final volume reacts greatly on its surroundings. By acknowledging existing pedestrian paths building acts more like an interactive part of its new enviroment rather than a barrier. The central and most attractive space of new cultural centre is ´Culture Courtyard´ together with open-air theatre. With the concept of folding doors, same space can assume different functions for different occasions. The culture courtyard is not only a place for recreation, but it is also an extension to the theatre when folding doors are opened. Small theatre for hosting chamber events can suddenly transform into a large performing arena or open-air cinema. The building also provides other functional spaces for various cultural events , such as theater, auditory, dancing hall, gallery, bookstore, music bar and others. Culture Square also provides more then 500 new parking places in historic city centre. The main idea for the design was to appear like turned inwards, when in fact it is the other way around with building highly engaged in city life on more than one level.

NOVÁ ŠANCOVÁ location: Šancová street, Bratislava, Slovakia year: 2015/2016 type: academic, diploma thesis team: Ing. arch. Andrea Javorková coordinator: Ing. arch. Andrea Alexy The aim of my diploma thesis was to revitalize the area of Šancova street, important thoroughfares in Bratislava. Even though it has a potencial to become a city boulevard, street is now characterised by low pedestrian priority, an overload of cars, poor pedestrian amenity and noise. All this affects the appearence of the street as it is today. During my pre-diploma project, I developed an urban study called „New Šancova“, that sets design principles for transforming the Šancova street into friendly public gathering space by capitalising on the existing amenities. Main idea was to enhance and connect three already existing great features in this area – culture, shopping and recreation – and by that activating the street life. These features are represented by small culture hub YMCA, traditional local market and unused park, which is now a parking lot. Therefore main subject matter of my pre-diploma was a new development on identified location, formed on both sides of Šancova street, connected by new underpass market. Then, during my diploma thesis I further developed detailed design for recreation zone on Karpatska street side. Part of recreation zone is a new Social and Community Centre. It programmatically completes the existing culture hub YMCA. New building is also directly connected to new underpass market through extentional plaza. With its architectural appearence it offers its spaces to public. The shape of the building consists of three separate boxes covered in glass structure. Boxes itself provide spaces for creative workshops, classes, clubs, studios and others, while interspace created with glass construction, offers more public gathering spaces. It also works as energetic interspace and greenhouse.

PANORAMA location: Ĺ trkovec, Bratislava, Slovakia year: 2012/2013 type: academic team: Ing. arch. Andrea JavorkovĂĄ coordinator: Ing. arch. Andrea Alexy The task for this project was to create a high-rise building on the beautiful waterfront site of Ĺ trkovec Lake. Location that is highly seeked by its residents as a place for recreation and leisure in otherwise densified wider city centre. The 80 meter tall building will rise 23 stories of apartments and parterre with retail and amenities adjusted to lakefront. Connecting to the street via two points of approach, the building offers one pedestrian access on public ground level, other on semipublic podium level. Parterre is partly conceived as an extension of the adjacent lakefront park, providing new recreational zones for its residents as well as its visitors, connecting indoor and outdoor spaces to create a vibrant, welcoming hub. Bold geometry of the building allows waterfront views from all of the appartments, also exemplified approach of integrating architecture and structure. With its design that unexpectedly extends itself upwards, the building required construction that subsequently became part of a final look. A visible steel diagrid creates a memorable diamond pattern for the front facade. Because of its shape, building provides apartments of various types and sizes, from small apartment on lower floors to maisonettes on the top. Each supplied with a generous amount of natural light and waterfront views and therefore creating attractive place for living.

ELEMENT HOUSE location: High Tatras, Veľká Lomnica, Slovakia year: 2017 type: private client team: Ing. arch. Andrea Javorková, Ing.arch. Rudolf Lesňák, Ing. arch. Ján Miškov coordinator: RULES architects Holiday house situated in village called Veľká Lomnica overlooking High Tatras Mountains is designed as wooden house made of prefab timber framed modules. Despite the fact that this particular house meets the specific needs and requirements of the client, new modular unit system developed during this project is able to create solutions for all types of living possibilities ranging from small size houses to two storey homes. Therefore this project, already under construction, serves as a testing proto-house. The biggest asset of this kind of structure is that it can be completely build in the factories and transported in pieces to it´s final location. Presented design consist of 7 equal size pieces, assembled together on the site. Bigger ground floor volume includes entrance, living area as well as sleeping area with one bathroom Second volume repeats the sleeping area on upper floor. Most important space in this holiday house is a big dayroom with two adjacent terraces where residents can enjoy the region´s beauty over the cup of coffee or morning yoga exercise. Wooden parking structure attached to the house reflects on vertical wooden facade finish and completes the final look. The main intention is to work with local materials and firms to deliver affortable, sustainable and quality result.

JE-XL FLAT location: Old Town, Bratislava, Slovakia year: 2016 type: private client team: Ing. arch. Andrea Javorková coordinator: RULES architects I was authorized to design the interior of two storey apartment. 180 sq m apartment is located in old centre of Bratislava within a building dated to the beginning of 20th Century. Unfortunately the apartment with its unigue historic vibe was negatively impacted by previous reconstruction during 90s. Therefore, first priority was to clean up the space by getting rid of all the unwanted elements and partitions. Only preserved thing from the reconstruction was the built-in steel gallery structure, partly redesigned and transformed to become a part of the final interior look. Another priority was to remain the space opened up as much as possible, allowing light to get throught. Entrance hall has been divided from the rest of the space on the first floor through built-in box with bathroom and laundry. With spatial reorganization of second floor, initially 3-room apartmant gained one extra room. Probably the most interesting feature of new interior design is a visible bathroom on second floor. Curved lamella partition between bathroom and gallery serves as a visual ´boundary´ that offers constantly changing view experience while passing through gallery space. Bathroom can be fully divided by electric curtain In contrast with simple and timeless material palette of white, wood and steel, a simple green elements has been placed across the entire apartment.

HI-S FLAT location: Petržalka, Bratislava, Slovakia year: 2017 type: private client team: Ing. arch. Andrea Javorková coordinator: RULES architects In Central and Eastern Europe around 60% of housing stock are made up of panel buildings that have been constructed in the 50s to 90s in order to supply housing in rapidly growing cities. For example, more than one third of population in Bratislava lives in prefab communist housing blocks called ´panelaks´, occupying the limited variety of similar small sized flat types. Most of them are located in district of Bratislava called Petrzalka. During my 4 year practise I had a chance to redesign more then one panel flat, finding it very challenging but interesting to always look for a different approach to same subject, creating original individual space for different owners. Client´s requirements were mostly the same. Need for enough storage space and inovative design for reasonable prize. During my last project I developed a study that picks up on an idea of putting one multiple-function unit in the middle of the disposition. Box that contains all nessecary requirements for comfortable living allows for the rest of the disposition to be used and changed freely, according to the current needs of its residents. Build-in unit links all the spaces together with one sensible design. Also creating a vibe of open floating space, which is very unusual thing for prefab panel flats. Last but not least, mirrored part of the box is an important feature that optically increases the space. The realization of prototype was completed on January 2018. photo: Tomas Manina
