Dialectical Behavior Therapy Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT therapy) is actually a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy. The primary goal of dialectical behavioral therapy is to teach proper behavior to better stress tolerance, to regulate emotions in the easiest way, and enhance better relationships with other people. This therapy was originally intended for patients diagnosed with marginal personalities (borderline personality disorder-BPD) and which often have the problem of suicidal thoughts and / or behavior. Later, it turned out that the same therapy can be applied in people with eating disorders and people with addiction disorders. DBT therapy was created partly from a philosophic process, know as dialectic where the seemingly contradictory ideas or facts are placed against each other in order to find the best solution or resolution and some kind of balance. In the context of psychotherapy, this idea, for example, can be applied so the patient learns how to accept what he it is, while at the same time dialectical behavioral therapy makes certain changes to their way of thinking and behaving. Dialectical behavior therapy is specifically designed to treat the disorder. It is done through individual, group and telephone counseling, DBT therapy uses a skill that approaches so that you learn how to regulate your emotions, improve relationships. Also it is used as one of the ways to relieve stress.

Marsha Linehan DBT Marsha Linehan is the developer of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a type of psychotherapy that combines behavioral science with concepts of acceptance and mindfulness, derived from eastern and western contemplative practices. For anyone who is showing signs of depression, the therapy is a key part of depression treatment. Dialectical behavior therapy can help with some forms of destructive behavior. Marsha Linehan believes that the aforementioned therapy is fantastic, but it is a very intensive approach that requires a lot of resources. The basic elements of dialectical behavior therapy training are: solving hazardous impulse and behavior in order to improve self-control, learning how to cope with stress and manage extreme emotions, mastery of interpersonal skills and finding effective and socially acceptable ways to manage life’s problems. The dialectical behavior therapy is called dialectical because it combines two seemingly opposing ideas: the full acceptance of people with the current state and active help to change the problematic behavior. Acceptance and compassion – not rejection – can motivate people to change. This type of therapy can be helped by a placebo effect, but this is still to be researched.
