BACHELOR PROJECT
MUSIC ELEMENTERY SCHOOL
Site is void left by the demolished youth house Jagtvej 69. The demolition of the youth house resulted in the most violent riots in Scandinavia’s contemporary history. The house had a strong cultural presence in Copenhagen inhabitants. It is located between the trafficated street Jagtvej and a parking lot, which is also a passage to one of Nørrebro’s cafe and bar areas as well as residentials. It also has a view over Assistens Kirkegaard, one of Copenhagen’s most beautiful cemeteries, where one of the new metro station is being built.

SITE
An elementery school focused on music as an integrated part of the education. It’s one class per year and it spans from 1th to 9th year. It shall contain a concert hall, workshop, library, classrum, music rehearsel rooms, cooking facilities, storage and administration. In total ca 1 500 sqm.
In order to adapt the building to the scale of the site, but at the same time accommodate the program, I have decided to lower the school playground, concert hall and music rooms, below ground level. This creates a natural protection for the playground, without disturbing the sight lines or movement pattern of the passage. It also means a visually open schoolyard who can bring a youthful and musical atmosphere to a site, which is historically known for that kind of culture.
classrooms
- introvert studies - isolated from distractions - LIGHTER STRUCTURE OF MASSIVE TIMBER
pedestrians passing by
- filter - distance but still a precense of children and music in the area
music reherseal rooms, consert hall administration
- extrovert studies - get inspired and learn from each other, no distinct barrier between playing in the schoolyard or playing music

ORGANIZATION OF PROGRAM transparancy - view / overlook, barriers - gradient of privacy / protectedness

FILTRATION
Filtration insted of barriers, floating transitions instead of clear borders. Filtrating privacy, people, sound, sight, precense and, perhaps most importantly, the vegetation at the site. One geometrical unit which together with other units creates spaces / voids which can be combined in different ways.

CITY HOUSE AND SUMMER HOUSE
TWO HOUSES FOR THE SAME USER
THE RESIDENTS CARIN 89 YEARS OLD
LARS 92 YEARS OLD
An older couple with the same routines, at the same time, every day. They spend all of their time in their home, since they don’t have as much strenght as they’ve used to. Walking longer distances or moving in stairs, can be done, but with great difficulty.
TIME AND CHANGE How to make a person who’s lost their strenght feel powerfull? In what way can the repetative daily routines be experienced a bit different than they did yesterday? In this case, I’ve worked with sliding walls, combining different room constellations at different times to create new spaces. In the city house with the sunlight, in the summerhouse with the view. They can barely walk, but still rebuild their house.

THE SITE HAS A CLEAR DIVISION ALONG THE METRO RAILS . ON ONE SIDE IT’S A SHOOPING MALL, PRIVATE OFFICE BUILDING, UNIVERSITY FACITLITES AND RESEARCH, AND IS POPULATED ONLY DURING THE DAY AND TOTALLY SHUTED DOWN DURING NIGHT.

ON THE OTHER SIDE GREEN AREAS, RESIDENTIAL AND A SUBURBAN SQUARE
CAFÉ AND STAGE HIGHLY VISIBLE FROM THE PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
IN THIS BETWEEN AREA, IT’S A CLEAR DIVISION VERTICALLY BETWEEN THE ELAVATED PEDESTRIAN WALKING BRIDGES AND THE TRAFFIC UNDERNEATH.
THIS PROJECT WANT’S TO OVERLAP THIS DIVISION VISUALLY THROUGH A ORGANIC GREEN AREA ON THE ROOF..FROM UNDER THE RAILS AND UP TOWARDS THE SHOPPING MALL ROOF. THE ROOF CAN PARTIALLY BE USED AS OUTDOOR AREA FOR THE LIBRARY.

GETTING KIDS TO GO TO THE LIBRARY STRATEGY : FOOD STORE LOGIC “ I WENT TO THE STORE TO BUY SOME MILK, I GOT HOME WITH TO BAGS OF GROSSERIES”
Visual contact with the most attracting part of the library, but then force them to go through the library to get there. The circulation is a looped staircase atrium in the center of the library, with as few obstacle as possible, and low wide stairs. Along the circulation, there’s extrovert spots. Which hopefully catches their attention and leeds them into the rest of the library (which is placed along the outskirt of the circulation).
