Andi to Ondi no tabi. My work is based on the conceptualization of Andi and Ondi’s lives, two characters of my authorship that represent a reflection of myself. My aim is to exteriorize my feelings, my fears and passions, an abundance of unconformities towards society, some nostalgia to my childhood and to convey through them what I am, what I am not and what I would like to be. This body of work was my thesis project at Altos de Chavon School of Desing.

Untitled, 2016. Shaped as a folding screen, the façades and the interior of the motels or dominican cabins are shown, reflecting on each side of the piece different situations. The screen presents characters, symbols and typical areas of Dominican society. Unlike the traditional folding screens in which only the side that faces the public is the one it’s worked on, on this occasion people have the chance to discover the private part, the one that is hidden, and witness some of the things that take place on the other side.

About the ELJAC: The Eduardo León Jimenes Art Contest is one of the main private art initiatives in Latin America, which was created as a result of acknowledging art as an essential component for people’s development . Since it’s first edition in 1964, it has been a key gear link towards the growth of visual arts in the Dominican Republic for over half a century.

This project took me almost a year. I had the idea for a while but i didn’t have the resources and the space for exhibiting it, that’s why i applied to the contest, so i could get financial aid and a place for displaying it.
