The contributors to this publication all studied on either the Graduate Diploma in Art & Design or the Pre-Master’s course at CSVPA, during the academic year 2020-21. All developed their creative ambitions, acquired new skills, experimented imaginatively, deepened critical understanding of their practice and collaborated with one another to forge the kind of interdisciplinary and inter-medial approaches that are so vital for contemporary artists and designers. The pages of this publication evidence just some of the ingenious and imaginative ways these students made the best use of their time at CSVPA, refining and considering their own priorities as creative practitioners. This has been a dynamic and ambitious year group; they have displayed passion, curiosity and engagement. We appreciate the variety, invention and example of their developing practices. They can feel justifiably proud of themselves, and of their accomplishments, sustained over the past months. May they each continue to determine their own individual priorities, in all the rich, insightful, humorous and profound ways evidenced in these pages, and may their artistic and design practices ever continue to serve to dis close the unconcealed priorities of the times in which they are produced.

CSVPA Graduate School Staff Team, 2021-22

ConsiderINTRODUCTIONthatevery page of this publication (let alone the overall design) has emerged from an individual sorting of priorities, as each instance represents the creative culmination of an individual decision-making process. There is no classificatory system that could ever do the slightest justice to such involvedness. Think of the innumerable experiences - lives, loves, losses, desires, hopes, fears, anxieties, memories, thoughts, and anticipationsthat artworks and designs contrive to collapse into a single form, image or moment; and then, recognise what kind of knowledge a creative artefact can provide access to. Bringing complexity into more apprehensible shapes of ‘knowledge’ is a human necessity; making sense fundamentally requires the linking together of otherwise disparate elements and bringing them into appreciation; and designs and artworks – considered as models of experience – provide us with privileged access to what we fundamentally need to know. Artworks and designs help us to re-negotiate and renew our own priorities - all we need to do is pay sufficient attention to them.

Congratulations to all of them, from all of us, for having achieved what they have achieved, in spite of the challenging, unprecedented, circumstances. We wish them the very best of luck for the next stage of the development of their own creative futures.

Art is multifaceted. There are different approaches, different styles. We should do what comes naturally to us, without trying to impress anyone or to get in line with an “approved” style in order to be accepted by the majority. never try to be someone else. It’s dangerous because you can lose your style by following other’s.

Some artists think that today they can do what will be accepted by the majority, and tomorrow they can be doing what they like. You open one door and you close another. There is no way around. Art Design -

REVOLUTION

ZhangDayun @zhangdayun_2627633256@qq.com BrandingFashion-Design&ArtinDiplomaGraduate It can be a fairy tale, full of pink bubbles that can be broken at any time, a romantic and fragile atmosphere. It can be a romantic film, the mutual pulling and torture of human emotions, or a sentimental poem. . . But what is the story truly about? It’s telling the crowd I need nothing but a REVOLUTION. Rebellion, breakthrough, silent revolution, that’s it, the only thing we really care about. Express what I want to express, you understand what you want to understand. Who cares how people are going to react. Full of beautiful riots. NO
