Human Scale I grew up in a city called Guayaquil in Ecuador (my country), and I had a lot of changes in my life, to finally decide at my age of 18 years old that I wanted to leave everything that I knew and become a total stranger. I moved to Mexico to study the career I have always wanted and not sure why. Architecture. That was the beginning of everything.

Museum/Pavillion of Architecture Location: ITESM, QuerĂŠtaro Description: The project consisted in taking one part of your body and experiment with it in order to come with a form for the next pavillion of Architecture. Time: Second year project

07

[M]

Diagram (Floor plan)

The project was runned by the architect Arabella Masson student of Peter Zumthor, basically the project had to be inspired by a part of the human body and use it to develop the form of the pavillion/museum. In this case particurally I decided to use my hands. In order to be inspired I made a mold of my hand with a spcial mass, to continue the process, I divide it into 4 pieces, selected the most funtional form of the 4 and that piece I multiply it all around the same core making a cirle form, and finally covered the pieces with a metal shader that allowed light and wind to me in.

TAAC Taller Activo Location: Desarrollo San Pablo, QuerĂŠtaro Description: The project was design in response to the needs of a impoverished comunity and the goal was to finance it as well. The project is developed in the two scales, architectonic and urban.

Time: Third year of career

[T] URBAN PLAN

MASTER PLAN Located between city and Industrial zone.

TAAC - Taller Activar (Active Workshop) The project proposed had a small intervention radius, besides that, it was necessary for us to present an urban project that justified the intentions of the local project. We worked in conjunction with the community in order to know and understand the real problems that they were facind at the time. As a result we came with a strategy that enclosed the intervention area. Focused in three important points: the revitalization of a nature reserve that represented a danger for the citizens due to its lack of maintenance. 2 the Linear Park that will unify two colonies. 3 the opening of a new school in order to improve the life around the area and because it was one of the community’s demand.

Four main Intervention point connected with a linear park. Letting the project in the middle of the urban plan.

URBAN PLAN

The idea was to connect important points of intervention and make it a continue walkway available to all.

Nature Reserve

The actual Natural Reserve was a constant complain of the community, first because it was a large land that separated them from the industrial zone, second the land has a terrible slope that was totally un-walkable and third it was a garbage dumb because no one gave it the importance and nobody care about its maintenance. Our purpose was to take advantage of its slope and make some areas with balconies and connect them with a two tracks, one for bicycles and another for walkers with a 10% inclination, and as a result it became a nice place to walk for people of all ages.

17

Illistration of the corridors

18

[T] Architecture Project

In the same project it was required to develop a master plan for the actual terrain, we developed numerous activities for the whole community to enjoy. Divided by a central axis that communicates one street with the other, with the correct amount of shadows for the walkers that pass by.

Activities

One of the obstacles we had was the location of a “Tianguis” because people never liked the idea but it was requirement to put it. The structure was based on fabric that the same community will do in order to create connection between the two users of the space, it also had metal to the balance.

Frankfurt, Active Buildings, Active Cities. Location: Frankfurt, Germany Description: frankfurt/main, district bockenheimer warte the rivival of a cityblock to create an interactive environment Time: Fourth year of career

23

24

[F]

The following project took place in Frankfurt, Germany. With the collaboration of 4 universities from different countries with only 10 students from each one. The countries who participate were Egypt, El cairo; USA, San Francisco; Germany, Frankfurt and Berlín; and Mexico. We were put together in groups of 5 people, 1 representa of each city/country and the host was the TU-UNIVERSITAT Darmstadt, wich receive us with a set of lectures given everyday and floor just for us and our necessities. Promoting always the idea of a more environmentally-friendly world, with the implement of more technology and better use of CO2.

In particularly my group and I decide to work in the urban plan. The background relies in a urban neighborhood very traditional and specifically the block was an old library with an ancient Museum that was there since World War II. Our concept was about “re-using”, instead of taking the old building down we made new adhesions by this we were able to complete the missing blocks and with this we could enclose the public space. We open the buildings through to make a new green corridor that went all the way from South to North, ending in an important plaza. Unifying the public space.

CONZEPT The red lines are a reference for the existing buildings, the grey marks are the ones we are adding.

There was an existing chimney in the middle of the new green corridor we proposed, instead of overthrow it, we cover it in a plant that could change within different seasons of the year. We open new axis in horizontal way as well as vertical way, the connections between the North and South were as important as the connection between East and West, N-S connections were created mainly for tourist, to hang around and to give importance to these buildings. E-W connections were mainly for users, citizens that live their day by day and they need commerce and public parks. Like new amenities to the zone.

[L] Centro Reavitacional LIMBO Location: San Miguel de Allende, MÊxico Description: Limbo is a cementery with a new tipology of death and associate it more to mexican’s culture. The project is develop in urban and architectonic scale.

35

Time: Graduation Project

36

[L] Urban Scale

Limbo was created in order for people to embrace and accept dead in a more pacific way. It was developed in Urban Scale as well as Architectural Project Scale. The Urban Scale was a group of number of interventions that took place in the travel in order to arrive to Limbo. The main key for this project was the Genius Loci of the place, I used it as a important tool to make the concept strong and imposing throughout the entire project.

CONCEPT

37

38

[L]

El objetivo principal es articular el proyecto con el resto de la ciudad.

Ciudad

Limbo

Urban Scale

To begin, Limbo is located far away from the current Urban development of the city of San Miguel de Allende.

Presa

The corridor to arrive to Limbo is what I called El Borde, within a travel of 1k of beautiful natural landscape. The urban intervention took place in this kilometer. Perspective of project B

Map 1 Espacio a intervenir es todo el andador que llega desde la ciudad al proyecto

The idea was to divide it into two parts, cars allowed and cars don’t allowed. The architectural intervention begins in the walkway, with Two projects located in A and B in the map 3. Peatón Coche

The First one (A) is a project with natural flowers growing, this means that instead of buying a new kind of flower, you have the opportunity to just grab it and make your own group of flowers to take to grave. The second one (B) is a project of ephemera architecture with the intention of invite the user to contemplate and admire the beauty of the place, as well as reflexion about their current situation.

[L] Architectonic Project Scale

Location

43

Limbo was located at the border of San Miguel de Allende’s Dam, that actually is one of the largest in the country but unfortunately is contaminated totally, beside this, its beauty is perfect and most of the people that visit and even live in SMA hasn’t heard of its existence. That was one of the main factors that inspired me to use for limbo, because a project as sensitive as this, could only be worth of a pure nature.

The main idea of Limbo was to create a place as special as death means to every mexican citizen, friendly, lovely and playful. In the terrain there was an existing ranch with no owner and with really old settlements. Which I used to locate the administrative area, as a reception and distribution place. In the rest of the terrain is located a combination of places that between nature and architecture they complement in order to loose feelings and emotions suffocated in the depths of our beings.

44

[L]

The project was composed by serial of layers that as one, they do not make any sense. But as singular they are in perfect harmony and well thought.

Besides the complexity of combining the different uses between each other, the project demanded a compromise to the city, in order to accomplish this, I decided that a common connection was required to integrate the project with its surroundings. This “Bridge” goes through the middle of the project and becoming the main entrance of the Museum.

Tega House Located in QuerĂŠtaro, MĂŠxico. Tega House has as an open space loft concept with apparent finishes and the idea of playing and innovating with traditional materials. The client is a designer former architect willing to experiment with materials and design, open minded. The program was very simple two bedroom house with special attention to the study.

[T]

Tega House is a project in wich I was able to develop myself as an architect, I had the opportunity to design the entire project, from scketches to supervision on field, to work in materials wich require an elevated level of detail.

TEGA HOUSE

FA Factor Arquitectura

81

82

[T]

As a resoult we end up with a mix of materials and sensations that enphasize the architecture itself. The main character of the house is the apparent brick, most of the walls have rustic bricks finishing and as a contrast we use apparent concrete for floors for inner spaces and in some walls also for the facades.

SD80 Located in QuerĂŠtaro, MĂŠxico. The program for this house was a 3 bedroom house develop in 1080 m2 located in Fraccionamiento Campanario. It consist in three levels including 1 for basement.

[S]

The House was a challenge because of its magnitud and for the special requirement of the client, who wanted a house not in warm tones instead he specify he was a cold man and his house had to be the same way. The project is on construction. SD80 HOUSE

90

[S]

The House develops an open concept facade which response to the orientation of the site. Besides the cold and fines finishes, we are integrated apparente elements of concrete to give the house the a differente personality. We decide that every element has to stands out from every facade, thats why we use dark colors for the flattaned walls and light warm tone fo wood finishes.

VIÑEDOS HOUSE Located in San Miguel de Allende, México. The project is located in a vineyard condominium concep. Each client gets a building lot of 6000 square meters, in which they have to use 5000 for grapes production and the rest they can use it for construction. They have the opportunity to produce their own wine using the conduminium facilities.

[V]

The concept of this project was to mix the traditional architecture of San Miguel, with contemporary architecture, and find the line that bring together the two styles.

Viñedos house

The client wanted a vacation house that emphasize comfort and warm environment. A house to go and enjoy.

FA Factor Arquitectura

95

96

[V]

The house is based in solid - close facades that brigs up the axis game. Simplicity is the best word to describe it. In the inner spaces the house opens up to landscape and each room is oriented to frame the views. The main character of the house is the sunken patio that brings light to the bedrooms in the basement and creates an interesting play of landscapes with each personality. Giving to the project a real effect of surprise in each step.
