UNI | URBAN INTERVENTION DORAFRONT - TURIN The project Dorafront develops long the waterfront of the river Dora in Turin. This area, an ex-industrial pole, it has never been exploited in spite of his strategic position. The project is organized through the insertion of individual modules or small aggregates positioned in a timely manner to originate, from a single matrix, different forms and different functions. UNI | WORKSHOP DESIGNING ON THE EDGE - TURIN The workshop “Design on the edge was a month-long workshop in collaboration with the Politecnico di Torino and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) for the parametric design with the program Generative Components. The workshop involved the design of a new connection between two areas of Turin, Lingotto and the ex-MOI (general markets), cut from the railway and the design of a new cultural center. To join the two areas cut off by the railway was designed a footbridge green; this walkway is thus transformed into a new public park. Its shape is the union of the points of interest found in the surrounding areas; with Generative Components was obtained a form with empty and full and allow the view of the railway. The same design system has been used to find the shape of the new cultural center. As regards the roof of the building, always with GC, it was created a component able to open and close based on the amount of sunlight present during the day.

UNI | URBAN PROJECT 5X5 SOCIAL HOUSING - TURIN The project 5x5 is a project of urban requalification; it is the design of a new residential district in the west of the city of Turin, specifically in the area now occupied by Alenia Space. The project area is very wide, so for the first thing we studied the masterplan; the concept of the masterplan incorporates the circular system divided by the rays but revised in a modern key. The new district is a district not accessible by cars with the exception of emergency vehicles and trams and buses. Private cars of the residents are left in the box in the underground parking. To facilitate travel in the district has also been designed a walkway, 6 meters tall, which connects all the residential blocks and allows the entrance to the owners. In addition, in the neighborhood, we find public parks, sports centers, shops and other services for residents. The concept of housing is a 5 cubic meters by 5; the union of these cubes generates amuses housing types with different sizes, and also of the duplex. Designed all housing types are merged in order to create two residential blocks. The combination of these blocks generates the new district social housing.

UNI | PROJECT NEW ART HIGH SCHOOL - TURIN The New Art hight chool is born in a peripheral urban context, morphologically messy, located near the Colletta’s park, in the north of Turin. The project is evolved from a matrix with a rectangular base, arranged along the axis of optimal east-west, which performs a rotational movement around an imaginary central pivot, following the trajectory solar, and the result is the formation of multi-volume, as a result of a careful study of shadows, moving both horizontally and vertically. The entrance of light from the east and west inside the building, is regulated through the use of vertical slats adjustable in PVC. Instead north and south of the building there are fixed elements which support the structure of roller blinds shielding made of PVC. In relation to energy savings, the project involves the installation of photovoltaic modules for the production of electricity and hot water and solar panels for hot water.

UNI | MASTER’S DEGREE THESIS MOCCA MUSEUM - NYC The project of the master’s degree thesis is the competition for the new museum of comics in New York City. The new Mocca museum should be designed in a lot of 1000 m square, now used as a parking, in the Lower East Side; this district is an area in constant transformation both social and architectural. The new museum should contain areas for exhibitions, offices, classrooms, a conference room and a bar. There are three concepts that inspired the project: the layout of the pages of comic books, the cells and their union and finally the structure of the wings of the dragonfly. Using a parametric program and a scrip the concept of metaballs became, after some changes, in the final form of the building. For the structure of the glass parts was used Voronoi tessellation of which is very similar to that of the wings of the dragonfly. The final project is a building that, unlike the buildings in New York, goes for only two levels in height and grows downward: in fact has the entrance to -3 meters from street level.

RPI | COMPETITION LUMINESCENT LIMACON The starting point of the project was the painting by the Flemish painter Cornelis de Vos (1584-1651), the painter portrays a Dutch man of the 17th century with the classic large white lace collar. The large fold of the lace, creating a play of light and shapes that are always variables, served as inspiration to make our “Luminescent Limacon” a lamp always variable in form and light diffusion. The use of parametric programs and a script for the design of the lamp design facilitated the achievement of the desired object. The global geometry of the “Luminescent Limaçon” is defined by basic mathematical equation “Limacon Curve”. The form created, called “roulette curves”, bends at variable speeds to create a form with similar profiles between them, which, when combined, create a volume. The length and size of the folds change in order to create a geometry similar to the “Dutch Ruff” in form and light diffusion. All individual folds that make up the lamp are drawn on a flat material and then cut out. Each piece is different in size and shape, each piece is unique and contains instructions for assembly. To obtain the light scattering has been used as material the 3Form Ecoresin semitransparent: this, depending on the type of color of the bulb used, cold or hot, generates a different type of light diffused in the environment. Finally, to make the structure more stable and to the attack of the lamp, all the pieces have been joined together with the metal cables.

EGA | MASTER’S DEGREE 2° LEVEL THESIS THE FUNCTIONALITY This thesis is the final report of the internship of the master “Buildings of great height (EGA). The theme of the internship is the study of the functionality of the project of the skyscraper Intesa SanPaolo in Turin of the architect Renzo Piano. The thesis is developed starting from a historical research on the functionality of several tall buildings, from their birth until the present day, taking some examples located in different countries around the world. Since the vertical and horizontal connections are an integral part of the functionality of a building, especially the tall ones, I have dedicated a part of the thesis to the elevators and escalators and how they have replaced over time the use of the staircases. To understand better the evolution of the functionality of the skyscraper Intesa SanPaolo I have decided to take four cases and to study their vertical connections, their functionality and the their relationship with the context. Accordingly, as it is noticed in the following sketches, the theme of the master has been examined departing from the competition project reaching the executive project underlining the aspects of transformation of the building and its functionality in the various planning phases.

WKS | WORKS SELECTION FUKSAS While at university I did an internship of six months in the studio of the Architect Massimiliano Fuksas in Rome. In those months I have worked on several projects going from competitions, up to the executive projects, and this has given me the opportunity to touch real and big project. This work experience has broadened my knowledge and has greatly improved my ability to work in a team. Here are some pictures of two of the projects on which I worked during the internship; the design of the skyscraper of the Regione Piemonte in Turin and the executive project of Montecatini Thermal Bath.
