During my time time in Powerhouse Company I had the chance to work on District-E, a new iconic project in the heart of Eindhoven. The plot is situated next to the Eindhoven station, which is an important entrance to the heart of the city. The station square on the city side will have the potential to become the new hotspot in the center of Eindhoven. With our project for District-E, this location is optimally designed to showcase the highly technological and innovative atmosphere of Eindhoven. A new iconic piece is added to the city's skyline, and new and vibrant workspaces, social spaces and exhibition spaces will be created right in the city center - a very interactive place for meeting and collaborating, pleasure and business, living and working. A place where there is always something to experience. 7
2. District E transforms the Lichttoren axis into a spacious runner that effortlessly connects Stationsplein, Brainportplein and 18 Septemberplein like a beaded chain.
1. A new urban square emerges between the three plinth volumes that forms the center of District E.

4. District E consists of an ensemble of three towers with different heights. It thus joins a balanced landscape of high-rise buildings that has developed over the years in Eindhoven.
East tower

District-E was the winning project submitted by Powerhouse Company for the 2017 competition organized by the Eindhoven Municipality. When I started working for this project a few months ago, it was already in the VO phase, when still a lot of design decisions were changing. My main role was in developing functional floorplans for apartments, plinth floors or parkings in different programatic scenarios, as well as solving different functional issues. It was a challenging task, considering all the regulamentations: structural or functional, budget, relation with the facade, etc. Still, I enjoyed solving all these puzzles and working on finding the best possible solution. In addition, I also had the chance to apply my creative skills: I made a large scale (110x170cm) watercolor painting of the south elevation and I also worked on the design of the booklet that will summarize the whole process of this project. 9
Tinker street. “Tinkering� means crafting, experimenting, trying out. Things are created and displayed here. In consultation with the Dutch Railways it was investigated how small work and exhibition spaces can be integrated in the colonade under the tracks. This street - which connects the station with the Vestdijktunnel - now becomes lively, with an interactive program on both sides.
Horeca. A quality restaurant will be built in the West Tower. You can reach the restaurant from the City Lobby or the Hotel Lobby.
The city lobby. The programmatic ground floor of the west tower consists of a business meeting center at the foot of the tower, where one can meet their business partners. There are meeting rooms, presentation rooms and individual workplaces on the upper floors.
Cafe. The ground floor of the Zuidtoren is the perfect place for a Grand Cafe. Here you can have a cup of coffee while overlooking the stream of people passing through the station.

Short Stay & Work. In the east tower there will be an innovative commuter program that will fill the gap between hotels and regular housing. In this tower people can rent a compact house for a short period. This facility is primarily intended for people who stay in Eindhoven periodically to work for one of the international companies in the Brainport region.
XPO. On the city side of District-E, a more informal meeting place has been incorporated in the ground floor of the south tower. This “living room� of the city is less business oriented than the City lobby. People can enjoy a bite or have a drink in an environment where the latest developments from the local design and technological industry are exhibited.
Passage. The north-south passage runs right through the building, connecting District-E with the city center. If the weather permits it, the large doors in the façade can be opened, so that the public space blends seamlessly into the inner world of District-E.

TIJ BLOK A.1
This housing project on the iconic waterfront of the IJ river in Amsterdam North is part of a large-scale transformation of an industrial area into a high-end residential neighborhood. Five freestanding apartment blocks form an ensemble within a park landscape, facing the water. The Powerhouse Company concept of the design was to combine the industrial atmosphere of the site with a new program for luxurious living. The two blocks are constructed of a steel frame structure that reminds of an industrial hall or factory. A black steel facade with green tinted glass covers the building and transitions on each side. The facade is more formal towards the street where the grid structure is dominant. Towards the waterside the facade opens up. Here, the glass openings are horizontally oriented in order to take full advantage of the fantastic view over the water. 13

Compared to District-E, where I had to focus more on the overall appearance and functionality of the towers, here I had to swich to a smaller scale and think into tiny details. One of the contributions I enjoyed the most was creating proposals for the common areas of the two buildings. I had to research materials, colors and textures, as well as distributors and manufacturers, that would fit with the entire concept of the buildings. I liked this assignment because it was a very visual task and I feel that I managed to apply my graphical skills.

In February 2017 I started working in Eproiecte, an architecture firm that designs residential projects. This was a unique learning experience because I was responsible for managing projects throughout all stages: concept, design, consulting with clients about their requirements and how best to meet them, budget and legislation. This allowed me to understand the entire process a project has to go through and to become more organized and independent. During these months I had the chance to work with different types of clients, who had different needs and requirements. I had to adapt and find the best way to communicate and develop a project that would meet their requirements and make them happy. 17

This single family house is located in Bran, a Transylvanian mountain city. Even though it is relatively close to the city centre, this is a very quiet and green area. The clients, a young and lively family, chose this as the place to build their dream home - three bedrooms, a living room, a library and a leisure room in the basement. During the entire project, as an architect, I had to take the initiative to consult with engineers in order to find the best solutions architecturally, structurally and for the installations. With their input, I developed the technical drawings that were used for obtaining the building permit and afterwards given to the construction firm to guide the building process.

The time spent in Rotterdam for my internship helped me to choose a subject for my diploma project. I found the city fascinating, given its history and ethnical diversity, so I started researching in order to find as much information as possible to help me develop an architectural program that would solve an existing problem. The proposed ensemble is a consequence of the rules imposed by the municipality, taking into account physical, economic and social factors. The project aims to attract people with higher incomes, sustaining the gentrification process, and emphasis is placed on the conviviality and the way in which the residents can benefit from the common spaces (both exterior and interior), in addition to the generous private spaces. 23

For about one year I was part of EFdeN, a team of young and passionate students, in fields ranging from architecture and engineering to communications and management. This project encourages an interdisciplinary work and promotes the union between theory and practice. We designed and built a safe, comfortable and energetically efficient, solar powered, house. The house is fully automated, 100% electrical, self sustaining and environmentally friendly. In 2014, the team represented Romania in the finals of the Solar Decathlon Europe in France and, after the competition, the house was transported back to Romania where it has been rebuilt. Afer many hours of hard work and dedication, our house became Romania's First Center of Research for Comfort Conditions and can be visited twice a week. 31

EFdeN Keypoints SOLAR. The house works strictly with solar energy, having 22 photovoltaic panels and 2 solar panels for hot water. SELF SUSTAINING. We built a home with no monthly bills. SUSTAINABLE. Our equipment and materials have low embodied energy, are as local as possible and they are environmental friendly. SAFE. Safety is one of the key aspects of any house and EFdeN 4C was designed to withstand earthquakes and fires. COMFORTABLE. We managed to assure all the interior comfort parameters, from temperature and humidity, to the level of Oxygen, CO2, natural and artificial lightning and volatile organic compounds. AUTOMATION. The intelligent automation system allows the residents to control and oversee the house from a distance.
What I learnt I consider the time I volunteered in EFdeN as a great learning experience. My tasks were mostly related to project management and marketing - I was leading the Communications Department, therefore I was in charge of promoting the project using many different means (social media, presentations, public tours etc.). It was a very challenging job, because I had no previous experience in this field, but I enjoyed having the opportunity to develop in a different direction. I learnt to be more organized and to present my work in a simple and concise manner in writing, verbally and visually (graphic design). Because my main task was to promote the project, I had to keep an overview of the entire process and keep track of every team of specialists (architecture, structure, installations, etc.). This was a very important aspect of this position because it also allowed me to stay very close to the actual design and construction of the house, giving me many opportunities to help my colleagues with different tasks, from designing the outdoor space to building indoor furniture. 33

Painting has always been a passion of mine and I enjoy to do it as often as I can. I started focusing more on painting and drawing before I started university because we had to pass an architectural drawing exam to get admitted. Therefore, I still like to capture architectural monuments, city streets and portraits. Sometimes in a more elaborate style or also some fast ink sketches in my notebook. I am also very happy when I am able to mix this passion with my work in order to create lively and expressive visualizations - as I did for the District-E project. 35
