Conceived as a follow-up of Diller-Scofidio+Renfro’s project for the Swiss Expo’01, our proposal aims to offer a new experience but at the same time refer to the project from 1999. The visitor will face something new and familiar at the same time. The cloud is no longer perceived as part of nature. It is contained in a laboratory like environment. This allows the visitor to explore it in detail and experience moments when he/ she is neither inside, nor outside the cloud, but somewhere in between.

Located on the lake shore, the 450 long structure of the Archive houses the Cloud. The Cloud’s composition and movements influence the visibility towards the surroundings, thus making the visitor’s experience different every time. A mobile machinery, travelling along the Archive’s 10 sectors generates the Cloud. Using the lake’s water, it constantly generates the Cloud, as it moves from one sector to another with a 1 day interval. The Cloud generator serves also as access platform. It carries the visitors from ground level up to level 02. At level 02 they have the cloud around and under them. They can then decide whether to continue exploring the upper level or go down to level 01. There, the Cloud is all around them. They can touch it as they move along suspended pathways. From level 01 they can go further down to level water level. Level 00 refers to the origin of the Cloud. It is also where the experience ends, at both ends of the 450 long structure.

Beirut port: Urban embarkment Strategies for tresspassing Diploma project/Urban Strategies/Die Angewandte The project investigates how POROSITY can be used as a design tool which would allow 2 activities that usually don’t meet to occupy the same territory Due to the accelerated and uncontrolled growth of the city, the harbour currently occupies one of the most soughtafter areas in Beirut. It is an off-limits area for most of the inhabitants. The goal is to make the shoreline accessible to the public while not disrupting the harbour activity.

Poro/eco/logics workshop Proto/eco/logics Symposium, Rovinj, Croatia, 2011 tutors: Bruno Juricic, Robbie Eleazer team project with Joao Neves

The objective of the workshop was to investigate an abstract spatial concept and its potentials in architecture/urbanism. The present project focuses on the relationship between voids and solids and how one can create the other. Either term can assume the role of positive or negative.

Contingent Structures workshop Urban Strategies/die Angewandte workshop, Vienna, 2011 tutors: Adrian Lahoud

The project was based on the idea of FRAGILITY and how it can make people react. The idea was to create an architectural object that would bring together different communities from Beirut by giving them a common goal. The goal would be to take care of an architectural intervention. To acheive this, the object should look as if it’s about to collapse. the architecture should capture the moment before the fall.

Organization: If a system is considered porous, that does not imply that the elements which shape it are themselves porous.

Subtraction Urban Strategies/die Angewandte

SUBSTRACTION: Create porous mass by modelling the negative. Void becomes matter.

Museum Centre UAUIM For my diploma project at UAUIM, I designed a museum center dedicated to one of Romania’s greatest painters, Nicolae Grigorescu. The artist lived in the 19th century, being heavily influenced by the french school of Barbizon. It is in Campina that he decided to live the last years of his life and where he has created some of his greatest paintings. The project has 2 major functions, it serves as a museum for some of the artist’s works and a research center for young artists. The volumes housing these separate functions are treated differently. Most of the exhibition space is underground, only 3 opaque glass volumes and the aparent concrete distribution core being visible from outside. The artist’s facilities are grouped in the lower part of the site, inside concrete volumes. The artists attending the seminaries organized by the museum should try and have an experience as close to Grigorescu’s as possible. This means that most of their activity would take place outdoors, the research center serving only as their base.

The site is located at meeting point of 2 urban tissue types which are separated by a high traffic road. The building works as an urban attractor that would increase the timeframe during which the site is used by bringing in new activities. The new urban attractor is shaped as a half sunken arena offering the possibility for urban activity to happen and be observed from more angles. its different levels allow for different degrees of privacy. The urban space extends inside the building in the shape of a vertical garden that would serve as break areas for the people working in the upper floors. The visual connection between the plaza and the vertical garden make the participants part of the same cummunity but still allowing a comfortable degree of privacy.

This new addition to Doha’s skylineis part of the many developments taking place to celebrate Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2022. The 2 mixed use high rise buildings are percieved differently as you move along Doha’s Corniche road. From across the bay, the buildings look merged, as one. As you approach them, following the Corniche road, they appear to separate.

The building will house an elementary school, as part of a university complex. It is conceived as a space that allows for new forms of teaching to be applied. It is a place where children will learn as much from eachother as from their teachers, by sharing and using a new type of space. The main main axis of the building, accentuating the site’s direction, links the outdoor and indoor activity/sports areas. The 10 classrooms, varying in size and shape are organized along it. Because of the program distribution, the axis becomes more than circulation and ordering element. It is a threedimensional communication platform, where the activities from the surrounding functions spill-out, a place where evrybody meets

Corporate Headquarters Westfourth Architecture S.R.L./P.C. Location

Bucharest, Romania

Year

GFA

18.000sqm

This office building, situated in an area that is to be developped over a longer period in the future, is to house the headquarters of a major international company. Knowing from the start who will occupy the building meant that we could take into account their specific demands from an early stage of the project. I was involved, in this project from the earliest stages of its design, working alonside my colleagues from Westfourth Architecture. My responsabilities included elaborating the 2D drawings and preparing the documentation for the necessary permits.

Multifunctional Complex Westfourth Architecture S.R.L./P.C. Location

Riga,Latvia

Year

2008-2009

GFA

100.000sqm

This multifunctional complex which includes retail, office and residential spaces is situated in a protected area, in the historic center of Riga, Latvia. The site covers approximatively 32.000 sqm and it used to be occupied by a factory. The only reminder of that is the high chimney of the old factory. The idea was to build the empty spaces along the major streets in a contemporary manner, respecting the scale of the existing buildings and, inside, to create a modern pedestrian area, one that would remain active 7 days a week. The entire layout is organized along a promenade and a public square, the heart of the complex. We decided to keep the old chimney, and place the promenade along it, making it an important part of our proposal.
