AUDITORIUM OF FREIXO ‘14 - ‘15 | constructed project in Marco de Canaveses | Portugal DRCN | Regional Directorate of Northern Portugal’s Culture with Amândio Cupido

The Auditorium of Archaelogical Area of Freixo, in Marco de Canaveses, was with several humidy and water infiltration problems. Inside, the materials began to wear out quickly and the building no longer satisfied the conditions necessary for its proper functionning. In this sense, we proceeded to the rehabilitation of the auditorium, seeking more resistant materials on the interior, and a reinforcement of the exterior walls, as well as the roof.

L O O K AT M E F L AT S ‘13 | constructed project in Porto | Portugal with Bruna Melo|Cláudia Fialho|Inês Carvalho Inês Figueiredo|Mónica Pacheco|Pedro Oliveira

The historic center of Porto is characterized by a typical architecture with buildings of the nineteenth century. Due to its age, the majority of homes is in a degraded state and many were abandoned. The rehabilitation of the center is essential and in recent years have emerged numerous initiatives, such as this project. At a time when Porto is increasingly visited by tourists, nothing better than designing small apartments for rent on each side of the stairs, one of the most characteristic elements. Small apartments require a greater use of space and for that, the main divisions were pooled into a single cube, which can be opened or closed changing the space around it.

C AT H E D R A L OF VIANA ‘14 | professional project in Viana do Castelo | Portugal DRCN | Regional Directorate of Northern Portugal’s Culture with Amândio Cupido and Inês Figueiredo

PHASE 2

PHASE 1

PHASE 2

PHASE 1

PHASE 1 ROUTE OF CATHEDRALS

PHASE 2 CLASSROOMS FOR CATECHESIS

In an attempt to recover and enhance the Portuguese Cathedrals, it was created the project ‘Route of Cathedrals’, which consists in a rehabilitation and transformation of those spaces into exhibition areas, in order to allow a closer relationship with the community, by including guide tours and several cultural events. The Cathedral of Viana was no exception and the main point of this project was to transform empty and unused spaces in areas such as reception, shop, sanitary facilities, multipurpose showroom and a small auditorium.

The parish proposed the creation of new classrooms for catechesis, because there were not enought space for that. In order to successfully integrate these new rooms in the condensed cluster of the church, it was necessary to demolish some spaces that were used as storage of various stuff. Therefore, and since the area was small, it was projected a glassed building whose form follows the limits of the space left after the demolition.

ART ON CHAIRS ‘14 | competition with Amândio Cupido | Inês Figueiredo

Being & Reflecting A chair with the ability to turn in to a support table, or even a full table, if combined with the same duplicated chair, by rotating one or both modules.

Dining & Living Two chairs and a table that transform into a single piece of furniture that can be simulated as a storage and exposure cabinet.

THE PA L L E T C U B E ‘13 | academic project GUT | Pre Diploma Design Studio

The project goal: to construct a wood installation inserted in a volume of approximately 3 cubic meters which can be assembled and disassembled easily. So, I tried to use an universal model, the european pallet, conceiving a sort of a solid cube on the outside, and exploring its interior forming a stair to the top, with small resting spaces in the middle with specific points of view. Pallets can be cut in various ways to obtain more freedom in the design of the interior. Each two levels of pallets corresponds to a step, with the exception of the first two. The top is completely free to move.

INSIDE THE RUINS ‘13 | academic project in Granary Island | Gdansk | Poland GUT | Theory of Conservation

The island, located in the historic center of Gdansk, formerly served as an important port of the city. However, the Second World War left its marks, destroying the city almost completely. Large part has been reconstituted, but the island remained as a ghost of the past. The project’s goal is not to rebuild the buildings, but the dialogue between the ruins of war and contemporary architecture, which uses the structures of the past as the base of its forms. This project was developed in a group, dividing the island into small portions for each member. In the top of the island, I tried to create a very attractive area, introducing small architectural installations between the ruins with functions such as restaurant, small bar, bathrooms and a viewpoint, and also an elevator and stairs to allow circulation between the different levels of the terrain.

DANCE ACADEMY ‘12 | academic project in Matosinhos | Portugal FAUP | Project IV

In a privileged spot with a view to one of the main ports of Portugal, the dance academy seeks to follow the shapes of the terrain, where the main focus is the auditorium, which rises from the rest of the building. In the center, opens up a space that allows an external contact deeply private and exclusive, and between the boundaries of the building opens up paths connecting two opposite points of the city, making the transition between a calmer and more rural nature to a deeper urban reality, where there is space for the opening of a small square that acts as a viewpoint for the landscape.

COLLECTIVE HOUSING ‘11 | academic project in Porto | Portugal FAUP | Project III

The project was divided into several phases starting with an urban planning where it was established the main guidelines for the land, continuing up a design phase of the buildings. Finally, it was selected a portion of the huge housing complex, to study in more detail. The main feature of this residential building is its dual facade, characterized by a rhythmic scheme of metal profiles that support polycarbonate tranlucent marquees. Therefore, the facade gain more life and dynamic in that it can process and control the entry of light inside the apartments.
