Naturum of Circularity A building which gives more than it takes Individual work Bachelor thesis, semester 6 Malmö, Sweden Based in a Limhamns’ old limestone quarry in Malmö this visiting centre materializes the synergies between nature and industy. Nature has started to reappropriate the site which has been left since 1994 and is home of many endangered species today. Centuries of mining has resulted in a unique biotope which favors wildlife. Naturum of Circularity is built with rest products of mining and invasive species which benefits the wildlife.

A

s you descend into the quarry everything changes. The acoustics change, consuming most noise, and light reflects from the bright walls. What earlier looked beautiful and peaceful now has become a threat. I wanted to create an oasis of protection at a human scale in the middle of nature. The Naturum would have to frame the landscape in order for it to not be overwhelming, while providing places to sit and

observe the beauty of the landscape and wildlife. Naturum of Circularity is a visiting center which is focused on the synergies between nature and industry. Limhamns old limestone quarry has been taken over by wildlife since it was left in 1994. Centuries of mining has resulted in creating a limestone step biotope where wildlife thrive. Naturum of Circularity is built on the same principle of creating synergies between the act of building

and creating spaces for wildlife. Timber for the construction will come from local birch which is an invasive species in the quarry. Other material will be gathered from the site by hikers in an act of co-creation. The design is connected to the UNs Sustainable Development Goals 9 and 11 which are “Innovasion, industy and infrastructure” and “Responsible consumption and production”.

The building is placed in the middle of the quarry as an oasis from the daunting scale

The Path Idea competition for a chapel in Rwandas highlands

With: Fabian Koppers, Felix Teneberg & Melker Andersson Semester 4 Competition through Young Architects Competitions The Path was a proposal for a catholic chapel in Rwanda. Several fragments make up the chapel and the experience which is created by an intensification of enclosure and building height. The intensification emphizises the journey, either from the nearby monastary or the town of Rukomo.

A

chapel is set to be built on the top of a mountain in the green highlands of Rwanda. On the same mountaintop is a monastery getting built for the Poor Clare sisters. To arrive to the site one needs to travel 7 kilometres through woods and beautiful mountainside from the nearby town of Rukomo. Me and my group wanted to focus on the path to the church after arriving to the top of the mountain. We wanted to respect the nuns at the same time with their daily activities by not leading the way from Rukomo passed the cloyster. This allowed us to place the path in a natural alley. As a fond motive in the alley we placed a cross which marks a meeting point “the arrival”, where nuns and pilgrims meet to continue the journey together. Next is “the encounter”, consisting of four brick walls which create seating but also guides the pilgrim. Thirdly we have “the breathing space” which is a submersion into the ground with higher walls which surrounds a tree. This could be seen as the church’s atrium and prepares the pilgrim mentally for the View from the start “thehas path” where spiritual journey. Lastly theof pilgrim come to “the the destination” which is a church and a church square. The path leads the pilgrim into one opening and out through another, marking the end of the The Path.

Chanterelle Preschool A preschool with a unique outdoor environment

Cooperation with Daniel Olsson Semester 5 Lund, Sweden Chanterelle Preschool is based on the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals. Densification is extra important in Lund since the city is surrounded with premium arable land. Chanterelle Preschool explores the possibilities of utilizing space underneath the block for the outdoor environment. The result was an outdoor environment in the childrens scale with weather protection and swings from the ceilings.

hantarelle Preschool is built from the perspective of the child. It began with study visits to two preschools where me and Daniel got to directly to the personnel and children to find their needs. We showed our early sketches and got their input which was central for when we started to design our preschool. All windows are low for the kids to be able to look out and sit in the windows and the group rooms can be opened to create larger spaces. The dug down courtyard

Building is entirely made out of wood and has roof gardens (Revit + Photoshop, by me)

gives a protected place for outdoor sleeping, extra outdoor space at the kids scale and weather protection. Land masses from the excavations will be used to create a hilly landscape at the open outdoor area. Energy usage is 55 kWh/m2year and the building passes the demands for the Swedish certification of Miljöbyggnad Silver v3.0 which largly depends on the insulation. Instead of rock wool the building is using sheep wool which is a rest product that otherwise gets burned. Constructural

elements are made out of CLT and reused bricks are used for the lower floor which will be harvested from an existing building as part of a circular building place. Social sustainability will be achived through integrating the city into the open block and getting private herb roof gardens for the preschool. Finally economical sustainability is achieved through C2C and upcycling. The building is sharing heat from the preschool to nearby residential buildings, reducing heating costs.

Lendager Group Internship with the leading circular economy firm I had the pleasure to spend half a year at one of the most innovative and sustainable architecture offices in the world. I got to work with Rhino, Revit, Enscape, the Adobe Suite, making physical models and more. It was both extremely educative and empowering to work at a competent and value driven office. I will continue to pursue the circular economy practice of Lendager Group.

ytterkasernerne was a project for a 19th century building in central Odense, Denmark. I got to create all material myself during a two week span. It was at the end of my internship and the client wanted to open up this cubical office space building into a more contemporary open plan solution. I digitalized drawings precisely and created a 3D model, did sun studies, diagrams and made suggestions for how to transform the building, with help from an engineer and the old drawings. I felt that I got to use a lot of my newly gathered knowledge. Including fast and precise Rhino techniques and real time rendering with Enscape.

Stitches Furniture collection themed PUNK Cooperation with Fabian Koppers Semester 3 Architectural Design Process and Prototypes A chair is split in two, get sewn together but an imprint remains, a scar. Stitches is a chair collection which is inspired by punk as a subculture. It has a raw finish and draws the mind to a pair of worn Dr. Martens. The chairs draws on the dynamic between society and punk, and punks effect on it. Stitches was chosen to be displayed at Form/Design Center in Malmö and at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2019.
