the project was a collaboration between 3rd year students, my team consisted of: nathaniel kirby - landscape architecture tameika pittman - graphic design dylan millsaps - industrial design
WEEK

our team developed the concept further by connecting the dead square, and the red square. We created center piece that connects both place vertically, which is a fountain/ seating, and a sculptural light fixture

GRAFTING MATTERS
in this project, we had to find a 20 years old arttifact, my artifact was a black water fountain made of stone, which i couldn’t identify when i purchased it.
charcoal study drawing
inspiration
idea the idea was to reactivate the fountain as a planter, by opening up the enclosure. however, when i started chipping of the surface, the water fountain was actually made of solid piece of epoxy

04
WEEK
the final product was a metaphysical representation of the original purpose of the water fountain. it is completely different than my initial idea, since the fountain was solid inside. i use tin to represent a dripping water that freeze in time

CULTURAL PRESERVATION
in this project, i analyze the remodelling project of neues museum, berlin, germany. the museum was destroyed during ww 2. the architect, david chipperfield, and his team try to restore the museum in his unique way. research was done through book and internet

FLAGSTAFF COALESCENECE
site analysis
my first research in this project was based on what is visible in google map, since our site visit was cancelled due to snow. i searched traditional flagstaff building. I then applied the pitched roof to this early design iteration
WEEK
08
after the first review i begin to understand the basic zoning code and the layout of the building. i created a simple diagram of how the programs connected

i went back to the very basic step, which is trying to understand the existing building and the people who use it
i worked in 1/32’ = 1’ scale, which is focusing on the massing instead of jumping too quickly into the programatic of the building

the last design iteration didn’t work programmaticaly. the result was lots of long and narrow hallways and rooms. lots of the square footage were wasted for circulation. i had to change the way i think, to pay more attention in adaptive reusabilty
it was 3:00 am and i couldn’t sleep, i somehow decided to draw architecturalal details (with the help of alcoholic drinks of course). i haven’t use pencil to draw since many years. the outcome was much better than i thought, i started to love pencil drawing even more

there are slight improvement from the previous design iteration. i added space called idea box, where the users could fully focus on their tasks
WEEK

i reinvent my concept, which allows me to trace the shape into my floor plan. this become a major and minor circulation, and i put the program on the perimeter
