M.Arch. degree project: La Rioja Justice Court. The two main goals of this project was the design of the Justice Court itself but also design a new urban context for the site. Due to this the building and the urban landscape must be melted as a single project, but the requirements of the building oblige to make it as a private and closed building. In this way the proposal wants to integrate the public exterior space by crossing the building with three galeries towards the inner courtyard, but at the same time the image of the building keeps the look of a fortification. The design must keep the high security measures that this kind of building requires. The main task in terms of designing the building was how to arrange the diferent degrees of security and privacy areas inside the Court. Thus the scheme on the right explains the genesis of how was solved this topic and how it fit with the urban regulations volumetry. In a bigger scale the proposal wants to integrate inside the urban web of green areas, thus it get more permeable urban fabric and more oxigenated space inside the whole area.
* The whole diploma project is composed by a Basic Project of the urban planning concept and Justice Court design, and a second part of the Execution Project for the rehabilitation of the MarquĂŠs de Murrieta pavilion (see pag 06).

CONSTRUCTION DETAILS:
SEGREGATED CIRCULATION SCHEME:
In the rehabilitation proposal was integrated a new steel beam structure with mixed floor slabs, which had to be stiff enough to support the loads and the old walls of the pavilion.
The main topic to solve the layout of the court was to find the correct circulation scheme, Once the easier tracks were arranged and, at the same time, the mix of both tracks was avoid, then the layout was solved. It’s really important in order to have an armonious court building.
CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE: During the structural implementation process is essential to ensure the stability of the old masonry walls. In this sequence is shown how would be the process.

Town and airport sector masterplan scheme related to ground uses.
Urban proposal to replace Hondarribia airport. CONCEPTUAL DIAGRAMS OF THE PROPOSAL
This urban planning proposal was developed acording to the Spanish Land Law and other regulations. The idea for the master plan started from the formal and spatial configuration analysis of the area. This area occupied by the airport and other adjacent facilities, was main object for this practice. There was a commitment with the historical meaning of the town and its natural environment of the place. The new proposal should make a “tribute“ to the historical urban development of the place. So, in this way, the islands scheme is conditioned in part by the replication of the silhouette of these walls . Later the process was focused on the dimensions of the existing airport runway. These are 1,780 m long and 133 wide. But the problem was the limited options that the runway concrete slab gave us, and the effort of remove it. The proposal was thought for a high number of new dwelling, so that meant we increase also the traffic in the area. Thus it was planned a new layer for boat trafic system which links both side of the Txingudi bay. The final shape of the proposal was a mix of the previous statements and a high degree of environment interaction. The urban plan was melted with the green areas and with the sea water. In this way, the physical and visual barrier of the airport runway was demolished in order to built a new friendly neighbourhood.
*This urban planning project is part of a whole strategical masterplan for the whole Txingudi bay.

‘La Paul’ wetland observatory. Proposal for the wetland observatory. The aim of this project was to introduce activities in a natrual environment but taking care of the sustainability of the proposal in relation with the site itself. In this way, the observatory is an autonomous building with a low impact on the ground because of the simplicity in the construction system.

09
SEGREGATED CIRCULATION SCHEME: The first research was focused on defining the best and the worst areas to place the diferent activities of the program. The drawings shows the mappings of the traffic flows and their noise generation. Thus the project works as a barrier which creates a friendly and calm space for living and leisure / cultural activities. The diagrams below show the concept behind the whole proposal. Ther was another important point in the program to integrate the historical metro bridge, so we decided to integrate retail in its arches below and create a promenade next to it which links the green area with the Cultural Centre and the other side of the main street.

architecture urban planning landscape technical research MAIN NEEDS SCHEME: THE LAYOUT
Complex project: London City Airport. The idea was not to make an isolated massive building but to design an integrated biulding into the London city road, rail and water systems. Due to this, the proposal aims to start with a green finger layout for the city folowing and linking the small green existingspaces.

This simplicity was the main principle to make this hub a understandable and safe space, not only for blind people (which was the aim) but also for other handicaped people and children. The sequence of the cover-uncovered spaces makes the whole project be a huge pedestrian crossing.
