CONCEPT The concept and goal for this home is to create an easily affordable and easy to maintain living space which will help the disaster victims with the stress of both money and home care. To aid in this, the house will be constructed with cheap and sturdy materials. Also, passive heating and cooling will be implemented by using natural lighting combined with thermal masses to help cool the house during the day and heat it at night. This is where the concrete slabs and flooring on the lower floor comes in. The house faces south with the majority of the windows being on the south side to increase the amount of natural lighting allowed into the home and onto the concrete where it can act as the thermal mass. Passive ventilation is also worked into the design through closable vents on both sides of the house which may allow for air to move through the house. Finally, to help keep a calm environment, warm and subtle colors will be used to create a stable environment for the disaster victims.
