WORK EXPERIENCE // BBB Architects January 2012 - April 2012, September 2012 - December 2012, April 2013 - August 2013
Architectural Intern Provided 3D models and images for various stadium projects such as Madison Square Gardens. Participated on the design team for the Detroit By Design proposal. Helped developed a new plan rendering technique, as well as introducing Grasshopper scripts now used throughout the office. Integrated the use of Rhino as model software of choice in urban development design proposals
Foam Factor April 2011- Sept 2011
Spray Foam Technician Worked along side insulators, providing assistance and maintenance to equiptment while on site.

During my co-op terms at BBB Architects, I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity work on high client profile stadium projects. One of the tasks that I was managing was the design, presentation, and physical model creation of the Madison Square Gardens Scoreboard, to be hung in the arena September 2013. The design process allowed the exploration of geometries, use of 3-D fabrication and photoshop to create a complete presentation with multiple options. The models below were four iterations of the design, with interchangeable top marquee rings that allowed the client to mix and match options until something appropriate was achieved.

A personal CGI competition entry done for the Flying Architecture Community. The competition titled “Architecture Unchained challenged the CGI and Architectural Rendering community to design anything at all that just ignored the rules of gravity. The influence at working with stadiums at my day job provided me the inspiration to create a flying venue, with concept of lofting fabrics blowing in the wind. The contest also provided a way to learn Grasshopper script modelling, as well as improve my VRay and photoshop abilities.

As part of the University of Waterloo Arch 292 course (Iconography) we were asked to reconstruct a scale model of a variety of cathedrals, synagogues, and mosques referred to in our course material. My team of five (Jack Lipson, Tony Shi, Justin Lai, Charles Ye, Liwei Wang and myself) was assigned the Freiburg Minster located in Freiburg, Germany. The presented model is a 1:100 scale model constructed from millboard, measuring 2.5 meters long and the spire 1.16 meters high. The model had to express a section through a key element of the space. In this model we chose to section through the spire that “will forever remain the most beautiful spire on earth as said by Jacob Burckhardt.

DXD// detroit by design December 2012
I participated on a design team that submitted a proposal for the Detroit By Design competition. The competition required us to rejuvenate the site of Hart Plaza, along the Detroit river between Cobo Convention Hall and the Renaissance Center. Our proposal extended beyond that of the site constraint, as we saw that Cobo Hall, Jefferson Avenue and the Windsor tunnel to be the reasons for the lack of activity in the isolated plaza space. We proposed extending the river presence of the plaza by reducing the presence of Cobo hall against the river. We also proposed bringing Joe Louis Arena to the plaza to be a generator of activity, and hiding the 8 lane thru-way under an articulated landscape connecting downtown back to the waterfront. The use of Grasshopper and Rhino allowed for the creation of the articulated landscape and the perforated treatment found against the park surfaces. 10

grasshopper wiring.
// grasshopper construction of the form with corner story controlling sliders During my time at BBB Architects, I was tasked with writing a parametric Grasshopper script to help create iterations of one of the residential proposals. I had created a script that allowed the user to control how many storeys they wanted at each corner of the site. The model then drew itself around the courtyard, which was a predetermined shape, and then sectioned out the floor plates providing the square footage of each massing iteration. The use of Grasshopper in the office was a new implemetation, and I was asked to compile a notebook of all the applications that I had brought into the office with explanation on execution in case they would like to adjust or re-use wire sketches.
