Iteration One

Objectives: For the first Iteration the assignment was structured around creating a simple artifact that represents your personality. The structure that I built consists of a Single base with simple artifacts that represent me. These artifacts have different meanings, like the modeling grass to indicate my love for baseball and the outdoors. I also placed sand paper, because it is one of the many tools I use to make my models in my spare time.

Mistakes: •

Lack of cohesion between materials.

Lack of design and order.

Use of base.

Learning Outcomes: The assignment was a little bit challenging for me, as I had no way of expressing myself through a sculpture. Instead of using literal objects I learned to create a piece that portrays my personality in a single cohesive model.

Iteration One

Iteration Two

Objectives: Create a Model that expresses a singular element used in the first design. So I went with the triangular shape, and tried to repeat the sizes and orientation of them.

Mistakes: * Lack of enhancing the secondary element (wire). * The wire that was weaved throughout the triangular shapes serves no purpose.

Learning Outcomes: I think I made a big step forward from my first iteration because There is a single universal object which is improved on many levels from the first iteration.

Iteration Two

Iteration Three

Objectives: Create a Model that has more than one element. I wanted to enhance the use of the wire, so I painted it white to contrast with the black model. I also placed the wire in a triangular shape to keep the Triangle theme.

Mistakes: "   Use of a discernable Base. "   Same Thickness of materials

Learning Outcomes: After the Third Iteration I learned how to incorporate a secondary element successfully. I also learned how to contrast the white and black colors to make the wire easy to spot.

Iteration Three

Iteration Four

Objectives: Create a Model that doesn't incorporate a base. I wanted to create a piece that has many different thickness of the wooden pieces.

Learning Outcomes: After the Fourth Iteration I learned how to incorporate Different sized materials. The main core triangle is thicker than the others, so the eye is drawn to it.

Iteration Four

Iteration Five

Objectives: Create a Model that incorporates a curvilinear design while keeping the traditional triangular form. So i tried to implement a single curvilinear line to every triangle.

Mistakes: "   The Objectives i set forth weren't fulfilled all the way because the curvilinear lines aren't clearly defined, or visible.

Learning Outcomes: After creating the fifth iteration I learned that I need to make my designs stand out more, and create a sense of movement through a curvilinear design. The curvilinear shapes within the piece aren't apparent, and I still incorporated more of a triangular frame design.

Iteration Five

Iteration Six

Objectives: The objectives that I set forth with was to create a model that has more dramatic and pronounced curvilinear lines that create movement.

Mistakes: •

Lacking the use of a secondary element

Learning Outcomes: Within this piece I felt that I lost the secondary item in my model. The previous models implemented a secondary element. During this iteration I think I focused to much on creating a sense of movement that I forgot the secondary element.

Iteration Six

Iteration Seven

Objectives: At the time, I wasn't aware of the missing secondary element, so i did not implement it within the seventh iteration. I Was trying to create a model that would point up into the havens.

Mistakes: •

Use of a base.

Plain color

To simple

Learning Outcomes: After creating the seventh iteration I learned that i have failed my previous objectives. I think I actually took a step back with this model. I tried to create a model that would stand up and create a sense of stature, but failed by not creating any contrasting elements and by its simple design.

Iteration Seven

Iteration Eight

Objectives: After my failed iteration i wanted to create a piece that would create defined space. I wanted to implement a new shape, so i created a wing shaped form. I feel that this design is smooth flowing and creates movement.

Mistakes: •

Still a little bit simple.

Tried to create space by adding simple strips of paper to create a shell.

Learning Outcomes: After creating this model i learned that I don't need to add strips of paper to create an implied skin. I think i could have accomplished this better by creating a repetition of lines to create a sense of skin.

Iteration Eight

Iteration Nine & Ten

Objectives: The Objectives for iteration nine and ten was to create a form that focuses on frame development. So i tried to use successful elements from iteration 8. I wanted to implement elegant lines, and create smooth flowing lines. And for the tenth iteration I tried to use the same form, but add a secondary element to the design. I also wanted to add color to it, as my previous models lacked contrast and color.

Mistakes: •

Iteration 9: too simple of a frame •

Lack of color.

Learning Outcomes: After creating the ninth iteration I learned to create a piece that still instills elegant lines, but add spaces between the lines. I felt that the Tenth iteration effectively displays a hierarchical frame development. I also feel that I successfully added a secondary element by brining back the wire element.

Iteration Nine & Ten

Iteration Eleven

Objectives: Create a piece that effectively displays sectioning. Sectioning is the repetition of arrays to create a single form. So i thought i would continue the same element that was introduced in my tenth iteration. I wanted to create a piece that has parallel lines to create an implied surface.

Mistakes: •

Lack of parallel lines.

Lack of implied surfaces.

Learning Outcomes: After creating this iteration i learned that I have failed the assignment. I did not effectively display a sense of sectioning by repetition. but instead created a piece that had singular lines to define space.

Iteration Eleven

Iteration Twelve & Thirteen

Objectives: My objectives for the twelfth and thirteenth iteration was to continue my exploration through the sectioning technic.

Mistakes: •

Iteration 12: •  •

Simple design to define space. Issue with craft.

•  Iteration 13: * Lack of a tertiary element.

Learning Outcomes: After the failure of the eleventh iteration I think i effectively displayed a sense of sectioning through arrays of forms. I think I tried to define spaces on my thirteenth iteration, which was successful.

Iteration Twelve & Thirteen

Iteration fourteen

Objectives: Create a sectioning model that creates three to four different elements. Work on a cleaner craft design, as the foam board is very difficult to cut precisely.

Mistakes: •

Model lacks a fourth element, which would have made it an interesting piece.

Learning Outcomes: I feel as though I successfully created a working three element model. If I were to add another element it would have made the model stand out more. I also learned how to perfect the design by playing around with the foam board, and master the proper cutting technics.

Iteration fourteen

For the most part i feel that my design process has progressed greatly in the first half of the semester. Before taking this class I have never thought about Architecture. I was only familiar with creating a model train layout, and plastic airplane models. I feel that this class has helped me understand many valuable technics that I did not understand in the beginning of this class. I feel that my level of craft and thought process has progressed throughout the year. Even though I started out a little slow with my design process. I feel that my sectioning models were the best out of all of them because I found the building process to be quiet challenging and very fulfilling. I hope to hone in on these inspirations and drive, which will carry me through the next half of the year. -Andrew
