Over the last two decades the evolution of technology, especially IT technology, has completely revolutionized the architectural world. Highly advanced virtual reality software now allows architectural engineers and planners to physically tour their own creations, giving them greater design control than they have ever had before. Architecture is also changing due to increased consumer demand for more technology-driven in-home or ino ce features, such as digital or voice-controlled environmental amenities. Server Rooms Commercial and residential architectural design must now work server rooms into most building plans. With residential homes and commercial buildings being more technologically integrated than ever before, server rooms are needed to act as the digital control hub of many of the more sophisticated buildings. Server rooms act as the technological brain, controlling security systems, internet routing, electrical systems, and more. One of the most technologically-driven changes that the architectural world has seen over the last two decades has been the standardization of virtual reality design software. In times past, architectural design was a pencil to paper. Today’s architects must be masters of virtual reality technology so that they can transport themselves into their design plans and ultimately make far more meticulous planning decisions due to increased data feedback. Advanced Amenities Today’s residential and commercial building consumers want more technologically integrated home and o ce amenities than ever before. These features may include voiceactivated lights, digitally controlled thermostats, and highly advanced building security options. Architects must be able to accommodate these demands and be adequately skilled in how to integrate a broad spectrum of high-tech building features into any design plan. Advanced Building Materials Architecture has also changed rapidly due to greater access to more advanced and hightech building materials. Building materials manufacturers have evolved at nearly the same speed as IT technology. Architects can now create building designs with a broader selection of core building materials than ever before, such as advanced composites materials, preshaped steel reinforcements, curved window glass, and much more. More Complex Electrical Design Electrical design within commercial and residential buildings is more complex than ever before. Buildings of today need to be able to process and route a far greater stream of electricity in order to power high-speed internet, built-in server rooms, digital control panels, and more.
