Background and Introduction • Objective of KCC to support the introduction of a Kilkenny City Bus Service (Mobility Management Plan 2009) • Objective of NTA to expand public transport town services • NTA has determined that there is demand for regular public transport within Kilkenny City and that such demand cannot be met on a commercial basis • Kilkenny City Bus Service will be a Public Service Contract (4 to 5 years) i.e. fully subsidised by the State • Design of the Kilkenny City Bus Network has been completed by NTA in consultation with KCC

• Leap cards will be available but cash fares and DSP passes will also be accepted • A limited number of new stops will include bus shelters • Real Time Passenger Information is envisaged for the service
Timelines to Introduction • NTA o procure 4 busses from their National Framework for bus supplies. (2 buses to operate per route) Q1 – Complete o complete a 2 stage tender process to appoint an operator (4 or 5 year contract) for the two routes. Pre-qualification (Stage 1) – Complete 4 Shortlisted Operators Tender Documents for Stage 2 - Underway • KCC o introduce the 68 bus stops required for both routes, works to commence March/April 2018. • NTA/KCC o enable awareness raising and promotion of the new service Q2/Q3 2018 • Likely commencement date for service is Q4/2018 or Q1/2019
