DESIGN STYLE
I love the natural landscape and the charge I get in being able to change and shift the natural world to create spaces that people love to be in. Our ability to ‘green’ our environments has overwhelming affects on our mental and physical well-being, and as a designer and landscape architect I am inspired to create and represent restorative landscapes that improve the quality of life for the client. I have extensive experience in using Autocad, SketchUp, Adobe Suites (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), and Dynascape fluidly to create well-rounded and complete designs. When designing, I look to use native plantings and materials in every design to create a strong identity and foundation , as well as branching out to see what other technologies, materials and plants can enhance my design to take it to the next level. My primary design goal is to listen and include the clients design ideas and thoughts to help me create a landscape that they will love and use everyday.

The Retallick Residence now has a cohesive, enticing, and relaxing landscape plan that fits all of their requests. Adding a large patio space off the lower deck with a fire pit lends itself to hosting a variety of gatherings. Fon du Lac stairs compliment the stream water feature that is adjacent to the patio. Colorful plantings were accomplished with evergreens such as baby blue eyes spruce, globe blue spruce, hardy summer hydrangeas, and grasses. I incorporated a majority of the color spectrum, but kept the plant quantity to a reasonable and manageable number. Steps from the upper deck leads you onto the new Fon du Lac path on the east side of the house. The plan improves on existing beds, removes the old patio, and creates a space for bird feeders and homes for your enjoyment.

The design intent for this project is to symbolically represent the Millennium Falcon in a fun and experiential way. Encompassing the house is the base plan for the Millennium Falcon. Divided compartmentally to represent the rooms of the famous ship. A fire pit represents where the hyper-drive is located. Plantings are representative of the Falcon’s color, texture, and Rebel Alliance affiliation. Reds, blues, whites, tans, and oranges make up the color palette. Paths circulate the exterior of the ship on the front and sides into the back patio area that represents the front wings of the ship.

Patio/Fire Pit Area/Planting Plan
My 2015 summer/fall and 2016 fall internships with Ted Lare Design/Build and Garden Center were valuable opportunities to learn about and design residential landscapes. I was able to work under four designers who were all different in their styles and techniques, and also formulate my own style. I learned about drafting techniques, layouts, estimating materials and costs, plant palettes, and implementation of designs.

CHICAGO LAKESIDE DEVELOPMENT
This project consisted of an urban design on an open six hundred acre site located right on Lake Michigan, only ten minutes south off Chicago’s Loop. Large-scale community design was the program for this nine week individual project. My focus was on medium and high density housing, a park system, and cultural pockets.

CONFLUENCE— INTERNSHIP
Confluence is a top landscape architecture firm located throughout the Midwest. While working there I had the opportunity to work on a variety of different projects. This particular project was a large scale cemetery that integrates an existing veterans cemetery, and is designed on an existing corn field. We broke the projects up into multiple phases and worked out cost estimates with the community. This project involved multiple site designs, locations, and phasing iterations to come up with three concepts for the community to choose from.

HARRISBURG RESTORATION PROJECT The City of Harrisburg, PA was looking to improve the infrastructure and quality of life for its resident by coming up with a master plan for a run down industrial corridor the runs through the center of the city. I focused on the remediation a large and unwelcoming scrap yard into an urban wild park that would provide residents in the community a much needed recreational zone in this area.

The Prairie Creek Restorative Prairie has a couple different foci. First and foremost is the restoration of an existing remnant prairie. Native prairie species are dispersed throughout with the opportunity for seed collection and research. Scenic overlooks and a regrading of the site was necessary to provide accessible and experiential hiking and multi-use trails.

NEWTON MAYTAG VILLAGE
Newton, Iowa is the home of the former headquarters of Maytag washing machines. When Maytag left, the city of Newton found itself with a gaping hole in their identity and infrastructure. This project focuses on the re-purposing of the former HQ into a vital hub that reconnects the city and provides work, living, art, education, and recreation spaces for the community. The main features of the design include: important axis to connect back to the existing hubs, increased vegetation and green spaces for softening edges and connecting spaces, and creating a pedestrian-oriented framework and infrastructure for the downtown area.
CURREY RESIDENCE The Currey Residence front entrance now has a clean, yet informal woodland garden feel as you enter the space. I reused mostly existing plant material, and was able to incorporate a few extra plants to round out the composition. Combinations of different hostas and woodland perennials creates a welcoming space to the front door and a clean transition to the neighbors.
