historically
Campus Outreach (CO) began in 1978 as the college ministry of Briarwood Presbyterian Church. After a couple of years as a college class it took on the name, “Campus Outreach” that accuratley explained what it is and what it does. CO is its name. It did not operate as a “come and see” ministry, but lived a “go and get” lifestyle. The ministry forged its beginning on the front lines of college campuses in the southeast. As CO multiplied it made a strategic growth decision that has marked Campus Outreach to this day. It multiplied with a franchise-based expansion philosophy. CO has no central office but a fraterninty of ministries that operate in unity, yet each under the authority of a local church body of believers. Today, over 20 churches host a staff team of almost 350 at 75 college campuses in 6 countries. The future mantra is “10 in 5, and 20 in 10.” The prayer is to have 20 new regions opened for ministry in the next 10 years.
missionally Building Laborers
Campus Ministry is a process and not a one time event. People are in the process of becoming and ministry must reflect this dynamic. We are peoplecentered, not meeting-centered in our approach and believe that truth passes best through life on life relationships. 1 Thesalonians 2:8 Therefore, the goal of our minisry is not a convert, who just understands his or her identity, but a laborer who understands their identity and purpose. We want workers and worshippers multipliled one life at a time with each life passing the baton to the next generation. Matthew 9:36-38

Focus
We think to win the campus is to win the world. We want to influence tomorrow’s leaders, educators, husbands and mothers. College is a crucial time when these future influencers are solidiying thier life convictions. 2 Tim. 2:2
for the lost world We exist to bring the gospel to the parts of the world that have not heard it or do not have it. We believe we can serve this world missions movement most effectively by mobilizing the collegiate masses for this purpose. Matt. 24:14
to the Glory of God For him, through him, and to him are all things and we want to offer this mission as our living sacrifice. (Romans 11:36)
theologically Reformed
Church-based
Missional
evangelism fundraising discipleship Reformed in our Perspective Campus Outreach staff share a high view of the sovereignty of God in all things and this belief is what drives hope in evangelism, prayer and all ministry endeavors. Church-based in our Ecclesiology We are not a para-church organization but rather each CO franchise operates under the authority of the local church. Every franchise is an expression of our mission statement through that church that serves, lives, and submits to the church’s accountability, leadership, and discipline. Evangelistic in our Agenda The gosple of Jesus Christ is the power of God for salvation and we order our relationships around this truth in principle and practice.
Discipleship-oriented in our Approach Our means for making laborers is our investment into lives for a prolonged period of time. We belive in an exponential rate of growth by one man intentionally reproducing his or her life into another for the benefit of the next generation. Racially harmonious in our target CO aims to carry the gospels to all peoples and to demographically build a laborer in every spehere of influence that exists on the college campuses we staff Fundrasing-driven in our finances Each CO staff member raises a team of supporters that pray and give financially to them during their staff experience. We believe this to be another outlet of ministry and steward these gifts accordingly.
philosophically
• Evangelism that is among the lost, intentional, culturally relevant, and revolves around a sense of urgency • Establishing that is life on life, in the context of the body, builds biblical (principled and practical) convictions • Equipping that is leader-centered, in the context of ministry responsibilities, and reproduction centered • Exporting that is personalized, team-oriented, harvest driven, and mission minded
methodologically Discipleship is a movement of the Holy Spirit by which a believer with a life worth emulating intentionally invests his or her life in Christ into another in a timely and targeted relational process with goal of reproducing this passion and practice into the next generation.
We must decide where we want our ministry to count—in the momentary applause of popular recognition or in the reproduction of our lives in a few chosen people who will carry on our work after we have gone. Really it is a question of which generation you are living for. -Robert Coleman
“And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” (2 Timothy 2:2 ESV)
financially Before we can build laborers on the campus, we must build laborers FOR the campus! Our support convictions can be most accurately summed up by Paul’s letter to the Philippians in chapter 4:10-20. Support Raising is about: 1.People, not just Money. We raise supporters, not just support (2:25-30). 2.Privilege, not just a duty. Paul refers to it an opportunity to support another (v. 15). 3. Partnership, not just Christian independence (v. 15). 3. Process, not just event. Fundraising is about a relational and committed process (v.16). 4.Promises of God, not just optimism. God’s works done in God’s way never lacks God’s supplies (v. 19). 5.Payment for our labor, not just gift giving. Paul and Jesus said a Laborer is deserving of their wages (v. 18). 6.Presents to God, not just obedience to a command. Support is a worship-filled exercise (v. 18). 7.Profit, not just an expense. Paul writes it is profit that increases to a supporters account. (v. 17)
