ALLERGIES
An allergy is the peculiar response on the part of the body, an attempt to protect that leads to an injury. The symptoms of allergies are widespread and vary from respiratory collapse to the more tolerable rash or runny nose. The substance that produces an allergic reaction is known as an allergen and the body in turn must produce antibodies to combat allergens. These allergens are protein compounds which the body identifies as “non-self� and hence the reaction. A person may have either an immediate reaction or delayed reaction which may not be noticeable for up to several days. Immediate reactions enable the person to identify easily the allergen whilst in the case of delayed reactions; one may not be readily able to identify the particular antigen. With the majority of the American population having allergies in one form or another, they may likely trace it dairy, statistics determine this percentage to be in the vicinity of 70%. Some researchers feel that children given cow’s milk at an early age may develop other allergies more readily. In some cases failure to thrive and even sudden infant death have been attributed to milk allergies or to coffee or colas. It is also believed that other substances present in milk may contribute to allergic reactions such as bacteria, antibiotics, hormones and other drugs etc. Learn how to be happy There are a number of vegetable allergenic foods such as corn, grain, legumes, nuts but it should be noted however that many of these foods may not be the main nor the only cause of the allergic reactions, it may be the way in which these foods are grown or even what is known as the summation effect. A person may have an allergic reaction to one allergen which may not be readily recognizable but as time progresses, may come into contact with another allergen and at this junction they have recognizable symptoms. The last allergen would be blamed but what of the first or probably how many other allergens that have been overlooked. Learn about your health at how to be healthy It has been observed that the mind is weighed upon heavily by allergic reactions so that aggression, anxiety, depression, violent and criminal behaviour have all been linked to possible food allergies. A case in point, it is suspected that the brain swells in some allergic reactions, this swelling may produce personality changes such as aggression. Kenneth E. Moyer, Ph.D. professor of psychology at Carnegie-Mellon University says that milk, chocolate, cola, corn, and eggs are the most likely foods to trigger this type of allergic reaction. Dr. Theron Randolph reported as early as 1950 that life-long cases of depression were cleared with allergen elimination. Recovery treatment from allergies must be undertaken with certain strictness and great self control. A non-dairy diet should be adopted and all suspected allergen foods should be eliminated. A diary should be kept and foods consumed documented and also reactions, if there are any. Foods should be prepared in as simple a manner as possible and only a few varieties eaten at one meal. Growing ones own food or obtaining food
which is grown naturally would be of great benefit. In event of worst allergies, a fast of 1-5 days followed by the addition of one low allergenic food such as pears, millet, rice for 2plus days, add another food and follow the progress until maximum relief is obtained, continue by adding one food every1-2 days.
