“ The strength of a good design lies in oursleves and in our ability to perceive the world with both emotion and reason” - Peter Zumthor I am an aspiring architect with a strong inclination towards spatial perception. I believe that the technological growth of the society has to be matched with equal Emotional Sensitivity in order to help people take the true essense of a place. I like to curate experiences and create spaces that leave an impact on its users. I seek to intern in a firm which gives me the opportunity to avail the practical exposure of implementing design and the understand the context of Architecture with respect to the current scenario.

Health Rehabilitation + Sports Centre Design Studio Project April 2019 Mentors Ar. Milind Merchant (Studio Pixel, Mumbai) Ar. Namrata Shah ( ans. Mumbai)

Brief : The focus of the studio was to achieve an understanding of the Eastern Waterfront of Mumbai. The eastern edge is a major current affair in the city as the docks have opened up to harbour new developement schemes. The task for this project was to provide a Sports Facility alongside a stadium at the Eastern Edge of Mumbai and to find an appropriate program which will help the developement of sport in the city. This brief led to a study of the context of Soprt in the city and also it’s position in the country. After the study the main intention of this studio was to understand why the people of the city show deep inclination to play sport but are not encouraged to pursue it. One major cause which drew my attention was the context of sport and health. The city of Mumbai has several grounds to indulge in sport spread throughout the city but lacks proper rehabilitation centres which cater to injuries caused due to sport. Hence the final end product of this studio was a sport rehabilitation centre along with a sport clubhouse which draws the sports people of the city to this establishment.

Co - Working OfďŹ ce Space Marol, Mumbai Design Studio Project October 2018 Mentors Ar. Atrey Chayya (DuoA, Mumbai)

Brief : To identify a system built on self-organization - the ability of complex adaptive systems to grow, order, and organize all by themselves, without any master controller. This project was about discovering a system amongst the people of the city which has evolved in a more bottom up approach and applying that to design. In this project I studied that movement of the people of Worli Koliwada and understood how the spaces in the locality would transform in throughout the day. The movement pattern generated by the people of the locality greatly resembled the evolution of the Zebra Skin where each element is responsible for the change in the next one. Hence the principals of cellular automata became the driving force for developing this design. These principals were applied onto an old builing in Mittal Industrial Estate in Marol where the the outcome of the project was to retroďŹ t the existing structure into a space which the whole working community could use and celbrate together.

Institute of Indology Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh Design Studio Project April 2018 Mentors Ar. Trilochan Chayya (Dean BSSA) Ar. Namrata Shah ( ans. Mumbai )

Brief : To understand the cultural context of Ujjain and provide it’s residents with a Institute of Indology or an Institute for space research. Ujjain is an ancient city situated on the eastern bank of the Kshipra River, It was the most prominent city on the Malwa plateau of central India for much of its history. It emerged as the political centre of central India around 600 BCE. It remained an important political, commercial and cultural centre of central India until the early 19th century, when the British administrators decided to develop Indore as an alternative to it. Ujjain continues to be an important place of pilgrimage for Shaivites, Vaishnavites and followers of Shakta. In order to pay homage to the rich cultural diversity and community that resides in Ujjain, the program seleceted was an Institute of Indology. The design for this project stemmed from symbolism and form developement. This structure was designed with an inspiration from the form of a lantern - A carrier of knowledge.

Manufacturing Unit, Menavali , Maharashtra Design Studio Project October 2017 Mentors Ar. Tapan Mittal (TMD, Mumbai)

Brief : To understand the context of Menavali, a small village in the Wai district of Wai and make a project for the people of the community. In this project I looked at the connectivity present in almost all the parts of this village. The village is potrays a strong feeling of unification because of the way people share the in between spaces. This leads to the multiple fragments of the village seem to blend in and look as one unfied space. The project finally culminated in a local munufacturing unit for the people of this village where they can come together and sell their produce in one space. The space is also view to invite tourists inside where they can see the whole manufacturing process as well as enjoy the wonderful views that this site offers and are able to eat and buy the products from the cafeteria bellow.

About Menavali Menavali, a village 3 km from Wai, is the cultural landscape full of mythology, religion and tradition. The town is an amalgamation of the people, their lifestyle and history. The Ghats act as the interface between water, land and people. The village symbolizes the very bell residing there , unity and power.

Since all these form a whole, fron Hence one can each other an Hence when scale, it lo characteris forming

Menavali, though a small and quiet village, holds small charms in its heart. It has several elements which hold the whole settlement together and give it a very interconnected feel. Moreover, the people also share several areas amongst themselves which add to the feeling of unity. Each house is accessible from multiple routes which also show how deeply connected this settlement is. Every house in this settlement held its own characteristic idetitiy which differentiated them from the others. But in the midst of these houses, there were multiple elements which acted as connecters. These connecters, ranging from doors to a shared roof, showed the unity between the people and how this community was so inter connected whic lead one to percieve the whole area as one space rather than small fragments.

The site selected is that of the feilds opposite the main ghats. One can notice that while the settlement looks very interconnected, the connect of the village to the ďŹ elds is clearly missing. This project will bridge the gap between the two river edges

Urban Design Sanjay Gandhi National Park Urban Design Studio Project April 2019 Mentors Ar. Atrey Chayya (DuoA, Mumbai) Ar. Dipal Chayya (DuoA, Mumbai) Ar. Prachi Donde

Brief : To understand how the site of Sanjay Gandhi National Park has been encroached from the side of Goregaon, Film city and understand how the site can be re planned in a way that the people can co-exist there with the greens. Sanjay Gandhi National park has been severly encroached upon in Goregaon. The hilly land has been excavated and plundered into. The way that we looked at this design was as to how could we replan the way the existing community has been using the space and understand as to how to integrate the greens into the space again. We started with changing the current land - use where we reversed the high density regions towards the city and pushed the low density areas towards the forest. We also put into use multiple ways wherein we can replenish this land with its natural resources. Team : Aneri Shah, Mehek Khanolkar, Anisha Swain and Ruchi Duttani.

Unfolding Chor Bazaar Graphics Studio Project October 2017 Mentor : Ar. Dipal Chayya (DuoA, Mumbai)

Chor Bazaar is an amalgamation of different people, materials, smells and visuals. In about one frame one can see a juxtapostion of various elements and people co-existing simultaneously, sharing a space. As we navigated through the streets of Chor Bazaar, there was an overwhelming sense of density and varied materiality that we felt should be translated visually and mechanically. We have mapped the diverse materials thats are available in Chor Bazaar and aim at providing a hands on experience that helps the user navigate through the streets with a visual clarity. This gives the user locational clarity that helps him position the desired material but at the same time provide him the visual diversity that Chor Bazaar has to offer. Our focal point in this module is to translate the different permutations of materials available with a hands on model that is engaging and representative. The diversity ranges not only in terms of the utility of the product but also in terms of the hardness of the materia. For example you can have a plastic shop co-exist with a metal sho in one space and frame. This sort of diversity and versitality is what makes Chor Bazaar distictive in terms of it’s program and experience. We have translated these experiences into elevations and sections that provide a view into the intricacies of the space. This provides an interactive experience that works w=in coherance with the interactions of Chor Bazaar as one navigates through it. Providing an informative narrative that brings forth the organic juxtaposition evident in the streets of Chor Bazaar is what our module aims to do. Additionally they can ually be seen as places, such as oga studio as an example

The main function for sacred architecture, beyond enclosing or defining space, is to elevate its users mindset, spirit, fervor, etc.

With a much expanded notion of the sacred, and an evolution in the areas of religion and spirituality, the idea of sacred space has come to encompass a multitude of ideas. The manifestation of sacred space is widespread religious and secular, individualistic and collective, and rational and atmospheric.

Sacred a rc h i t e c ture and sacred space serves as a sanctuary for a person, group of people, or an idea. Contemporary sacred architecture instills emotion and thought. Sacred architecture
