INTERNAL REFURBISHMENTS, ASTON UNIVERSITY Multiple intrnal refurbishment s completed over summer / christmas periods with very short design period and strict deadlines for the construction period. These projects had added challenges of multiple stakehoder involvement and approval process. For all the projects over £1million as Aston policy, we targetted SKA benchmark which is a simialr assessment process to BREEAM for commerical refurbishment process. This included of finding the right specifications, holding design team and contractor team workshops and records of items /energy use, etc. The projects I worked on were all on traditional contract with Robothams being the Contract Adminitstrator . I shadowed the project director on the first project and could handle a lot of CA duties individually. Some of them included of issuing instructions, site inspection, defects inspection, meeting minutes , maintainig the change control register, etc.

AVONFIELDS A high end residential development in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon , the site for Avonfields is a stones throw away from the Grade I listed Holy Trinity Church. Site Location Plan
Existing Site photos
Existing Site photos
The project went through a very extensive preapplication process including a formal pre application. The proximity of the church along with other listed buildings made the proposed site quite sensitive. The geometry of site divided it into two parts which were treated as the North and the South Site. The development of the North site consisted of 4 three story houses which show the character of the typical townhouses of the conservation area of Stratford-upon-Avon. The south site showcase a more contemporary low bungalow style homes with geneour ous gardens with a feel of orchards which resonate with the original historic landscape of the site.]

Proposed building designed with golden section* proportions like many surrounding historic buildings
Proposed elevations following the Grid and rhythm like the original Avonfield (now Oldaker) and the Holy Trinity Church
*A golden section is a classical proportion used throughout history to create compositions that are pleasing to the eye. Examples of important buildings following these proportions include; The Greek Parthenon, Notredam, Taj Mahal and many more.
Proposed building roof form inspired by the geometrical corbelling of the terraces, and battlement of the Holy Trinity Church

CHIPPING CAMPDEN
2.3 HERITAGE STATEMENT HISTORICAL MAPPING 1880 - 2014 - OBSERVATIONS:
The site for the project of Chipping Campden is the yard for a Grade II listed building on the high street of Chipping Campden. The geometry of the proposed site is quite narrow with adjoining buildings in very close proximity. These constraints made the design of the proposal to be sensitive in appearance but also in form and heirarchy. Unique design solutions to have minimum impact on the conservation area and the amenities of the adjacent buildings.
Bantam1970
A common observation of all the maps states that there has been a constant addition/reduction in the ancillary buildings to the main buildings over the years. The Map of 1880 shows development of ancillary/extension to the main house which stop at a boundary. Moving on From 1800s to 1923 ancillary buildings show up in 1923 on site on site, in a linear form along the west boundary. As seen in the historical image below taken in 1947, a long and narrow building along almost the entire back of the site is visible. These buildings were probably made using more temporary materials like tin, possibly as quick build sheds.
Ordinance Survey Map 1880
The layout strives to provide maximum natural light and amenity spaces for the proposed user of the dwellings. The project involved extensive study of the development patterns of the town and the study of the neighbourhood plan and local planning policies to have a proposal complaint and appropriate for the site.
Ordinance Survey Map 1923
STUDIO SPICER ARCHITECTS
Analysis of the historical maps identifies several observations that have contributed to the character and identity of the proposed site.
This shows that the proposed site has always been a functional yard to the main building at the front, facing the high street, being adopted and developed as required to suit the proprietors’ needs at any given time. The site has no significance as an open setting to the main building, evident © Landmark Ltd and use. Crown copyright 2014. FOR EDUCATIONAL USE ONLY. by Information the everGroup changing Residential development either side of the site between 0 1923 and 2010 is also noted.

Residential Extensions The design of these resdential extension projects were essential to be quick and efficient. The clients were quite keen on the projects to be on budget and to be strated o n site fairly quickly. Both projects came with set of site and building constraints which required the knowledge of the building regulations, planning policies and detailed design.

HOCKLEY MILLS A residential led mixed use development in place of an old warehouse adjacent to the historic Jewellery Quarter. The proposed scheme is location right next to the Jewellery Quarter Railway station. The development consists of about 500 apartments (a mix of 1,2,3 bed apartments and a few penthouses) surrounded by five v courtyrads. A commercial unit of about 600sqm in addition to the a retail units and workshops and a new ticket counter for the Jewellery Quarter railway station. Historically the site consisted of a warehouse for the old hockley station. A viaduct which still exists on site is proposed to be used as a Gym/Leisure centre. An outline design for a hotel with about 42 rooms has also been proposed. The design of the scheme is goverened by the sloping topography of the Pitsford street. The elevational treatment takes precedents from the old warehouse architecture of the Hockley Shed. The materiality is inspired from the ones widely used in the jewellery quarter
3D View of the scheme from Pitsford Street
The existing site currently contains a storage shed for Mr.Tyre. Originally the site contained a warehouse shed for Hockley Station. The topography of the Pitsford street follows a very steep slope . The site is flanked by two lush green cemetries in the north and the south, namely Key Hill and Warstone (Brooksfield)Cemetry. The site is almost hidden due to the changing levels as it sits in the valley between the two cemetries.
SITE
Existing Street Elevations
The site is very close to the historical jewellery quarter which becomes a precedent for many features of the proposed design.

PEBBLE MILL STUDENT HOUSING A luxury student housing project has been proposed on Pershore Road near Pebble Mill Road, Birmingham. The proposed design is one of the multiple student housing projects with the branding of ‘Student Vita’ by Select properties. The project lies in a residential area and benefits from the close proximity of the Birmingham University which is about 15 mins walking distance. The site is surrounded by a dental hospital a community centre and is part of a flood alleviation scheme. The proposed building has very strict height restrictions. There are many A category trees that need to be presereved on site. The building follows many branding standards. These standards govern many things like the position of the windows, adding a courtyard to the design, etc. The landscaping of the scheme becomes a very mportant factor.

RSA ACADEMY (Extension Block) An extension to the existing RSA academy is proposed by sanwell council as an answer to the scarcity of schools for Key Stage 3 students. The new proposed structure could be an attached extension or a stand alone block. After the study of various options for the position of the extension a stand alone block is proposed in the north east part of the site. The new proposed building is meant to follow the same design principles of the existing building. The proposed building consists of 18 classroms, admin ofiices, a multipurpose hall and staff rooms. The classrooms are proposed to have moveable partitions to facilitate larger classrooms if required. The identified proposed site is on an existing football ground which is prposed to be moved and relandscped further north. Parking is to be used adjoining to the proposed site which is not completely utilised at presemt. The sports facilities on the RSA academy site are shared. Sustainable drainage in form of a swale and photovoltaic cells are proposed on the roof for sustainable energy production.
