PREFACE 00
Polytechnic University of ValenciaGraduate studies
The following portfolio is a sample of relevant projects in my graduate studies in the Master of Advanced Architecture, Landscape, Urbanism and Design at the Polytechnic University of Valencia and the architecture degree at the National University of Colombia, and shows the projects which I’ve been involved in the professional field. I think that between my short experience as an architect, I have opened new horizons and have captured various knowledge that allows me to face the professional and personal life more confidence in myself. From Colombia to Europe, my global experience has exposed me to new urban environments, professional and cultural qualities, which will positively influence my profession to participate in the development of projects in my country and globally. Growing up in Colombia, I have become aware of the mismanagement of resources and unsustainable design, which motivates me to contribute my knowledge in the development of current education and technological innovations to create sustainable environments.

Urban Scale Projects | HUERTA NORTE OF VALENCIA MASTERPLAN. Polytechnic University of Valencia Authors: Andrés Felipe Berrio- Carolina Rocha- Eylül Aksoy
Framing in the European context, the study area is located in ValenciaSpain, which is located in the south-east of the country in the area of the Mediterranean coast. Existing areas of farming which are called La Huerta de Valencia have great valor in the city with long past and highly dynamic, physical production space, and it has become a patrimonial agricultural context and environmental quality space for the city.
Urban development throughout years and orchard fragmentation
The intervention area includes the diagnosis, analysis and action at the level of the urbanized area masterplan Patacona and a fraction of the Huerta de Valencia in the north of the city; between Carraixet ravine and the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
Study area
The urban growth, urban infrastructure (roads, rail), the fragmentation of agricultural landscape on the site; will be important aspects of the analysis and subsequent Masterplan proposal.
Historic roads and buildings
Fragmentation because of new motorways and train system
System of canals and ditches
Threats by urban growth
Barriers, borders and ‘transition bands’
Main objetives and strategies in the studied area: Objetive | To preserve agricultural activity in the Huerta de Valencia through actions that maximize its heritage and cultural value in the city. Strategies | Edges treatment as transition bands | Strengthening links between the orchard and the city.
Treatment of area edges Areas for the creation of urban gardens in the nearest areas to the edges with the city, linked to the transition fringes and the strategic access nodes to the orchard; allowing access to amateur farming and linking educational institutions in order to promote knowledge of farming as traditional activity of Valencia.
The orchard areas closer to the urban edges are more vulnerable of being abandoned or neglected by their owners or be influenced by aggressive urban uses in rural areas.
Urban gardens
Connection strategies between open spaces and the orchard.
Design and integration of tram, bike stations and bus stops.
Buildings for educational and commercial activities.
Improvement of the road network to connect strategic points.
Design for new interest spots, and landscape design.
Urban Scale Projects | PULIC SPACE SYSTEM. Intervention at Huerta Norte of Valencia. Polytechnic University of Valencia Authors: AndrĂŠs Felipe Berrio- Carolina Rocha- EylĂźl Aksoy
The intervention project at Huerta Norte of Valencia, is the result of a thorough analysis of the agricultural space in Masterplan stage, which aim to strengthen the agricultural landscape as an element of great value to the city of Valencia. Main current problems of the place, from the economic profitability until urban conditions and infraestructure that have degraded the orchard have been identified. Strengthening links between the orchard and the city, is conceived through the generation of strategic nodes within it to become milestones that enhance its use, bringing in additional public use activities.
Connection strategies.
Main objetives and strategies in the studied area: Objetive | To protect natural systems, agriculture activity and patrimonial constructions | To enhance the values of the various landscapes. Strategies | Generating a system of public spaces | Revitalisation of bounds | Creating dynamic and static spaces.
To connect the city and the orchard, a system of public spaces and paths is generated. This system defines certain strategic points, and it connects them. In these strategic points two public spaces are configured, as today there is only one within Static and dynamic public space, and the limit as a the full scope of intervention. fundamental factor to the landascape visual perceptions.

Building Scale Intervention | PROGRAM FOR REUSE OF THE BODEGAS VINIVAL BUILDING. Polytechnic University of Valencia Authors: Roberta Falqui- Maria CerveraMarina Pedrazzini- AndrĂŠs Felipe Berrio The program for reuse of an old building that previously operated a wine industry, was involved in the study of the masterplan level close to the same area. The building that housed the winery until 2009, was built between 1968 and 1969 and was conceived as a large container which housed in it the entire system of wine production. The proximity of the building with the Polytechnic University of Valencia and the residential area Patacona offered the opportunity to think about a building of public and private mixed use, which would establish a synergy between the characteristic features of the area and could resolve the problem of temporality that affects it.
Box As independent container
Masteplan area Metallic structure It establishes a rhythm on the ground plan and also organizes the space
Silos They represent the main elements that the box contains
Ground Location of the project area
Building construction process
Independent element where the different layers are supported and it acts as an extension of the area.
Proposed program to intervene in the building | COWORKING What is a coworking? Coworking is an innovative way of working that allows different independent professionals from various sectors share the same office or space where they can establish partnerships, networking, share experiences and advice, or to develop joint projects. Main advantages: Flexibility of use | Own space | Major relationships | Improve professional networks | Balance between work and family life Why a COWORKING like design program at the building? Referred to the zone:
Because... ... The building is located close to the Polytechnic University of Valencia. ... The area is the most economical and profitable. ... It is the best place to combine work and rest ... The area has good access and connections to the city ... The zone lacks of cultural activities ... The zone is like a city bedroom with absence of economic activities. Referred to the building: The structure offers flexibility for the space: As the building is a container made with an open metal structure, it allows us to bring light and open spaces composed of different levels. The flexibility of the space that allows us this composition, generates different visuals and great spaciousness. The cover is easily removable to gain optimum daylight for work: The composition of the cover allows us to change it because it is not a structural element of the set. Opportunities: To convert the old wineries in a landmark for the city It is a favorable zone to develop various activities such as markets and other complementary activities. To recover the intangible value of the building.
Coworking
Design proposal 1 Strategies: - Conservation of the structure and the envelope. - Relationship with the environment. Analysis: - Purely visual relationship with the environment, with which the building does not establish any relationship. - Violation of the character of the building.
Design proposal 2 Strategies: - Box-in-box Analysis: - Excessive fragmentation of the internal space - Building closed itself - Lack of connections to outer space
The local needs lead us to various conflicts. First, we find the need to open the building to the city, and secondly the building is closed. The interior and exterior should join, then the solution is to intersect a volume to expand the building to the outside and to enter the public space in it.
The intervention aims to highlight the original character of the building, which is read as a rampart, a rampart like a partially open box. The project is modeled by a new body that penetrates the wall, smashing to occupy it and open it to its environment, allowing the whole to be read as a new public space. The proposal seeks a relationship with both the existing building and the space around it.

Building Scale Intervention | INTERVENTION FOR HOUSING REHABILITATION Polytechnic University of Valencia Authors: Liliana Sanchez- Haydee Féliz- Maria Cervera- Marina Pedrazzini- Andrés Felipe Berrio
The intervention project for recycling social housing, is a comprehensive approach to design a housing area located in the mouth of the Carraixet ravine; north of Valencia. The homes currently occupied don’t have minimum living conditions; however, people who occupy each dwelling have adapted them according to your needs. The proposed site of the set is characterized by a particular environment, which is surrounded largely by natural area, while shopping centers are present, and also areas not currently occupied are degrading the place. At the same time, the housing complex is located in an area with deficients of roads, pedestrian connections and bike routes that connect to the city of Valencia. The project was conceived as an opportunity to provide optimal living conditions for people who currently occupy the set housing, trying to improve living conditions and strengthening the relationship with the environment around public space, which is characterized by open spaces that behaves like intermediate transition spaces between public and private.

Theory | WHAT IS A SUSTAINABLE URBAN PROJECT? Comparative analysis of urban projects and confrontation with the concept “sustainable development” National University of Colombia Author: Andrés Felipe Berrio
The main objetive of my monograph was to answer the question What is a sustainable city project?, whose definition was based on the concept of “sustainable development”. I studied several urban projects to achieve a comparative typological analysis of them; finally I determined whether or not they have sustainable urban focus; besides finding the main features RESUMEN COMPARATIVA OMPARATIVA DE PROYECTOS that make a project is underTABLA this approach. ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE The project is outlined in an environmental field from the search for new sources of energy, although on a small scale, it also raises a beginning for a gradual change in power consumption in the city. It is also important to create “green barriers” that minimize the impact of highways surrounding the development area. ECONOMICALLY FEASIBLE
Design Forces The project carries out a comprehensive recovery of the Plaza de Ferias, to revitalize food market for the northern of Medellin city, integrating the surrounding commercial uses of services, housing, institutional and athletic, and also the project recovers the edges that connect the river to the north-east and north-west.
The renovation of existing structures raises an economic aspect in the development of projects. The Plaza de Ferias recycling is to regenerate it as marketplace that simultaneously integrates commercial uses that support the new population that will live in the area. SOCIALLY EQUITABLE Relocation of the current vulnerable population living in the area, poses a low-cost housing development for these familes, while the area edges where the subway affects is planned as a redensification area and housing and trade development to support the relocation of the vulnerable populations.
Urban Scale Projects | LAYOUT AND URBAN SHAPE National University of Colombia Authors: Andrés Felipe Berrio - Juan Diego Peláez
The Magdalena River, as a structuring element nationally in Colombia; has an important influence on Magangue city. The intention to develop an urban project on the edge of it is to integrate the areas that make up a front commercial side of the harbor, also a boardwalk is generated on the edge of the river, not only as a tourist but also as economic opportunity for the city. With this Magangué is developed towards the edge of the Magdalena river, giving the municipality a more dynamic between public and private uses. The proposal focuses in landscape, environmental criteria and dynamic balance between public and private.

The Research and Technology Center El Volador, is a neighborhood scale project that may have an impact at city level, integrating teaching criteria, culture and innovation exercise. The project works as an integrator between the National University of Colombia and the hill El Volador in Medellin city, which are two disarticulated points at the city to promote the dynamic activity of the people. So the project Research and Technology Center El Volador streamlines the relationship between those spots.
