Local charity Link Age Southwark celebrated 30 years supporting local older people in style on 15 July, launching a special photographic exhibition at their fundraising Sunset Soiree at the Dulwich Picture Gallery.
The exhibition showcased the breadth of the work carried out by the charity in its mission to alleviate loneliness for older people and those living with a diagnosis of dementia. The photographs – of older people the charity works with, its volunteers, staff and supporters – were taken by award-winning photographer and Link Age Southwark volunteer Nick Dolding, who originally joined the charity as a volunteer befriender.
The Mayor of Southwark, Counsellor Michael Situ told guests: “Iamparticularly gratefulfortheengagementworkthatLink AgeSouthwarkdoes, sothatolderpeoplecan continuetolivemeaningfulandfulfillinglives withintheborough.”
Link Age Southwark’s Chief Executive, Sophie Wellings, said: “One of the bestthingsaboutthisexhibitionistheamountofjoythat’sondisplayinthis room,andIhopewehaveanother30yearsofcreatingmore.”
Link Age Southwark’s 30th anniversary celebrations continue as preparations now hot up for their inaugural fundraising walk -- the Sponsored Strollathon. This fun, accessible, family-friendly walk, will take place on Sunday 10 September 2023 (11am – 3pm) in the beautiful surroundings of Dulwich Park, offering a range of distances so everyone can join in.
It’s a great opportunity for us all to get outside, get fit, spend time with friends, family and colleagues while helping Link Age Southwark raise vital funds toward alleviating loneliness and reducing social isolation for older people and those living with a diagnosis of dementia in Southwark. From 1pm there will be live music from Herne Hill-based big band The Fabulous Honeys. Register for the event and bring a picnic for some relaxation time after your stroll.
