ELEVATE YOUR HALLWAY

I’ve been coming up with inventive ways to use that scrappy space under the stairs. Mine was full of coats, plastic bags (like they need their own space now!) and the ironing basket, along with a load of ‘stuff’ that even if I needed it I wouldn’t know where to find it. So let’s relocate some of this and create beauty, making it amazing and useful.

How about a child’s play area? This is such a great idea as not only is it a cool place for the kids and their friends to hang out, it can be used for their toy storage and looks fantastic. You could have bench seating with storage underneath or beanbags and a cupboard built in for it all to be tidied away afterwards. They could have little afternoon tea parties in there with bunting and colourful cushions, or play mini Lego masters with friends. They would love their own space and it might even keep the carnage to that area (we can all hope).

Are all the dog’s bowls and toys getting kicked in the kitchen? Give your gorgeous canine friend their own space to relax. You could have bunk beds for a couple of pooches, a cupboard inside or next to it built in to the angle for all their leads, boxes, toys, coats and your walking gear. Wipe down walls and removeable cushions, even pull out bowls in a drawer. This can be bespoke to your needs and whims.

Or else a grown up, gorgeous and practical area for what was actually in the understairs cupboard in the first place. Ironing in wicker baskets under a bench to put your shoes on. Coats hung on carefully chosen hooks, maybe some panelling and definitely a storage area for the ironing board, extension cables and those plastic bags!
