Welcome

Welcome to the October / November issue of SK Cheadle Hulme & Cheadle. I hope you like the front cover, which this month is a first. Local resident Andrea Geary sent in a selection of her portfolio for our designers to look at and they liked this one so much it’s our new cover. Thanks Andrea.

Our regular feature, Under the Hammer is back. Along with the usual Art and Antiques sold, this month they also sold the contents from an old garden shed. Turn to page 12 to find out how much your old drills and saws are worth along with a Victorian garden bench.

We have our usual pages of events and activities in and around the area, to help get you out and about within the community.

Remember if your club or group is looking for more members, drop me an email and I’ll do my best to spread the word.

Cheers

Simon

Interior Design Page 30 WINDOW DRESSING

If you just pop into a curtain makers retail shop, you’ll know how bamboozling choosing a fabric can be. There’s plains, stripes, patterns, fabrics that are linen, boucle, velvet, then there’s what heading to have, lining, fullness, tie backs… it needs serious consideration. Here’s some tips on how to break that down. Firstly decide if the window is to be celebrated, the view is amazing or interesting, the window itself is beautiful. Does this window need covering as soon as the lights go on or else Wendy from over the road will know what you’re eating for dinner! Does it let in much needed light or can you see the children from here. Hanging a pole longer than the window and having the curtains pulled back so that almost all of the window is exposed is a great tip. You can add to this Roman blinds on each window section if it’s a room that you’d want to part shade. Sheer voiles are soft and luxurious these days, think boutique hotel rooms rather than your granny’s lounge back in the day. You can have them on an electric device for extra luxury. Then hang similarly toned plain curtains to finish the look that glide across full or part way if you’ve some privacy with no tie backs for this simple and clean look. A wave heading is perfect for this style. Shutters are a great idea for practical reasons giving options to open and close sections of the window independently. Soften the look with patterned curtains to the floor which can be much needed around the hard shutters. A relaxed look can be obtained by being brave and choosing 2 different patterned fabrics to hang together. Tie them back individually for a cool, boho vibe. You could just tie them back to one side if it works. This is great in a younger person’s bedroom or a kitchen with the expanse of plain kitchen units, it’s a lovely, bright focal point. Let me know if I can help, Sharon.
