To the newest member of the Passion Planner family, What you are holding in your hands is the very first edition of Passion Planner, the planner designed with your passions in mind. Passion Planner is more than a weekly planner to organize your routines - it is a tool to help you define and manage your goals while recording your thoughts, experiences and reflections. It has been carefully thought out to be a companion to you; to be there whenever you need it for organization or inspiration. It will accept your thoughts and ideas without judgment and will be a space that you can unclutter your mind, leaving you more able to focus on the present moment. Why I Wanted to Make This Planner: I wanted to make a tool to help not one, not two, but as many people as possible define their goals and passions, keep those things in the forefront of their attention, and pursue. In my second year of college, I switched my major from pre-med to art. Although my parents did not approve, I decided early on that if I was going to do something with my life, I would be doing something that I loved, even if that means having no money. Although confident at first, I was feeling pretty lost and overwhelmed a few months later. My friends were all on their way to becoming doctors, engineers, and lawyers but I still had no real clue as to what career to choose. One day I sat down, took out a piece of paper, and asked myself one question: "What EXACTLY do I want from my life?" I defined exactly what I wanted in painstakingly exact detail, then wrote a list of actions to attain them. Little did I know I was drawing my own personal life map. My goals became my destinations and the smaller actionable tasks became checkpoints on my journey. I took it one day at a time and one step at a time. A year later, all of those goals came true. I'm not saying that if you write down your goals, all of them will automatically come true. But I do believe that if you are trying to get to a destination, your best bet in getting there is first knowing exactly where you want to go and then planning which steps to take. A Note About How This Planner is Set Up: This planner starts with Passion Planning, an exercise aimed to help you create a roadmap to reaching your goals. From my experience of being an elementary school art teacher and art student myself, I've realized that it is easiest for people to excel creatively when given a very loose structure to start as opposed to a blank piece of paper. This structure provides a solid starting point yet still allows lots of room for customization. This approach runs throughout the planner to give users a tool that balances structure and flexibility so that people from all different lifestyles and backgrounds could use it in their everyday lives. Each weekly layout includes a weekly appointment calendar, prioritized to-do lists, and spaces for you to focus on the high priority things that need to be done in a given week or day. In terms of personal reflection, I have provided spaces for you to record "good things that happened," weekly inspirational quotes, related challenges, and a large blank space that you can use to customize this planner to your needs. Whether you like to journal, draw, or brainstorm, this planner can be modified to suit your needs. At the end of each month, you will find additional note pages that you may use as extra writing space and reflect on the previous month. If you feel stuck and need a place to start, you can to refer to some of the reflection questions that I have provided. With time, consistency, and persistence you will soon understand the potential this planner to create change and inspire action in your life. If it seems a little overwhelming at first, take it slow and just make it a point to use it for a short amount of time everyday until you get comfortable. Passion Planner is intended to be a guiding tool, not an obligation; a gift you give yourself. I've spent countless hours trying to make sure this planner is as perfect as possible, but please accept my apologies in advance for any mistakes that may be present. This is a work in progress and I hope with your input and feedback, Passion Planner will improve each year to come.
