his is the first community issue featuring Jesus, music and fashion from Phoenix. I pray that God does something amazing in Phoenix and if He can use us in the slightest of ways, I am ready for Angelic Magazine to be a part of uniting Phoenix for Jesus. We have a magazine name but we are a ministry who seeks to fearlessly proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This community issue is for you Phoenix.

BROUGHT YOU HERE FOR A REASON. ”

was raised Catholic, but, after my mom passed away when I was twelve, I really didn't want anything to do with God until I was about 20 years old. One Friday afternoon, my roommate and best friend at the time came home from work a total wreck. After talking about what had happened, we realized we were both in the same boat. We had just moved out on our own for the first time, and we were struggling with money issues and dating all the wrong guys. After realizing we both felt a void but really couldn’t explain what exactly it was and how to fix it, a friend of mine popped into my head. He would always ask me to go see his church to watch him play in the worship band. I reluctantly always followed his invitation with a, “Yeah, okay, someday.” For whatever reason, his invite stuck out that time, and I told my roommate we should try going to church. We both agreed that being around positive people could help change our situations. At this point, we had nothing to lose. We did some research and wrote down several different churches in the area. We didn’t stick to one denomination, either; we decided to be open-minded and try anything. That Sunday, we got all dressed up in what we thought was our Sunday best and headed to church. We instantly felt welcomed. After awkwardly standing during worship and realizing it was appropriate to raise your hands, dance, clap, and sing if you felt led, the sermon started. The pastor started talking about your God-given purpose, and it felt like he was directing everything toward my roommate and me! We both turned to each other in awe of what he was saying. Soon, he closed out his sermon, then began to make an altar call. He said, “You are not here by accident—God brought you here for a reason.” Right then and there we felt like we were home. We both raised our hands and prayed the Sinner’s Prayer. It didn’t take long for us to be fully immersed in everything the church had to offer. If there was an area in need, we jumped at the chance to help in any way we could. I had a new fire for God, and I was so excited I had my best friend by my side to experience everything! I started journaling and writing letters to God. I even created a prayer list of the things I desired most for my life using the Scripture Habakkuk 2:2. I started to see things slowly cross off my list—among those was meeting my husband, Mark. It is truly an amazing feeling when you know you are with God's perfect match for you. Together, we keep Christ the center of everything in our lives. We both believe everything happens for a reason and have learned that each of us has special God-given talents to help others meet, know, and follow Jesus.

s a child, my parents divorced when I was one year old. So pretty much my whole life I grew up in a situation where I was with mom for the most part and dad every other weekend. Growing up, my family was not very spiritual. In fact, we were what I have deemed “ChrEasters” which meant we went to church only on Christmas and Easter. I dabbled with going to youth groups from time to time, but again never really felt the spirit. I always believed there was a higher being, but never really had faith. I was just going along in life not really knowing Jesus. For most of my life I battled my own self. I felt like I had an emptiness inside of me. I couldn’t describe it, couldn’t pin point it, I was lost, but didn’t know it. I felt like I didn’t deserve to be loved and it reflected in my relationships. When people would get too close especially my girlfriends, I pushed them away. I didn’t feel worthy of their love, especially unconditional love. In fact people would joke that I had the heart of the Grinch, but never grew unlike his. I laughed on the surface, but deep down it hurt. Sometimes I felt hopeless that I could never reciprocate love to those that loved me. I always treated people with care and kindness and always tried to follow the Golden Rule in life. But when it came to love, I had no idea how to love. About 5 years ago, I began to do bible study with my now mentor Howard. I enjoyed the history of the bible so we began to meet one on one. He always told me when God was ready for me you would know. Slowly I began to feel the spirit build in me. That void slowly filled little by little with God’s love and then BOOM! God introduced me to someone that would forever change my life! My future wife! I began to fill the love I yearned for so much. It was an amazing feeling I began to fill deep down that was hard to describe at the time. I know, I know it sounds like a LifeTime movie, but it was true! It was an indescribable feeling that I’ve always heard of! I began to feel this unconditional love from her and God, but unlike before my heart began to grow like the Grinch’s! And in February of 2014, in front of tens of family and friends and thousands of others watching, I said good bye to the old me and I was reborn and baptized! It was one of the best feelings I have ever felt! A new start, a new me, a new love for life, a new love of my wife to be, but more important a new sense of hope and love of Jesus! This was only the beginning of a life long journey with God! And on April 3 of 2015, in front of God and others, I married my love, Stephanie! My wife has changed me from the inside out! We receive God’s mercy and grace every day and for that I am ever so thankful and blessed! Every day we keep God at the center of our marriage and our life! We pray together every day, the good days, the bad days, no matter what, God remains at the center of our lives! My journey with God has come full circle, but its only beginning!

QUIET TIME

B Y S HANNON NOVAK s a child, I remember waking up to the bubbling and brewing of a fresh pot of coffee each morning, the slightly burnt, savory smell wafting past my little nose. I would walk out into the living room where I saw two heads bent in silence, a fire burning in the fireplace and filling the room with cheery light. My father would be sitting on the corner end of the couch next to the table where he could set his black coffee, my mother in the arm chair, forehead resting on her manicured hand. Both of them would be silently reading their Bibles and praying. It wasn’t until I was a bit older that I realized I was getting a glimpse at the most important part of their day—what should be the most important part of my day, too. I’ve noticed that it’s easy to begin the day with a list of things to do rather than personal time with Jesus, but, the point of being a Christian isn’t to check off a list—it’s to have an intimate relationship with God. My parents understood that in order for that all-important intimacy to take place, there must be time set aside for it grow and thrive. The Bible has never crawled up onto my lap of its own accord. If there is one thing I’ve learned about making time with God, it’s that I must be intentional—otherwise, it just won’t happen. Sometimes we can forget that there’s a spiritual battle going on where Satan is doing everything he can to keep us from God and His word. Oswald Chambers, Scottish preacher and author of My Utmost for His Highest, wrote in his well-known devotional, “The most important aspect of Christianity is not the work we do, but the relationship we maintain and the surrounding influence and qualities produced by that relationship. That is all God asks us to give our attention to, and it is the one thing that is continually under attack.” The time we spend in fellowship with God will attract Satan’s attention because it is the very thing that blesses God the most. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

"OUR TIME WITH GOD ALLOWS US TO EXPLORE WHO HE IS, HOW MUCH HE LOVES US, AND PERSONALLY HEAR HIS TENDER VOICE. " Christ died out of love for us, but the purpose was so we could be reconciled to God—to have fellowship with Him. The value God places on this intimate time with us is seen through Christ’s death on the cross because it made a way for that relationship to take place. Yet, without intentionality, the time we meant to spend with Him just falls to the wayside. Satan knows that, without time with God, we will try to carry life’s burdens ourselves, while our spiritual strength dwindles down. Psalm 36:9 says, “For with You is the fountain of life…” God is meant to be the fountain head whose waters flow through us into every facet of our lives. Meeting with Him each day is more than just taking a sip of water to whet sin-parched lips, it’s receiving a fountain of living water that quenches the thirst within our very souls. It’s fulfilling the very purpose of our existence and the reason for Jesus’ precious sacrifice. My parents enjoyed their time with God in the morning—in fact, a good day couldn’t begin without Him. My dad often described his mornings with the Lord as “crawling up into his heavenly Father’s lap.” Their time with Him was personal—a mutual sharing of their hearts with His. Our time with God allows us to explore who He is, how much He loves us, and personally hear His tender voice. Time with God is so much more than a box to check at the beginning of the day, it’s where a holy relationship is deepened, widened, and woven into our daily lives.

Tell Your Truth

WHEN I DID EVERYTHING TO MAKE MYSELF USELESS, ME GOOD AND NOBLE.

I

HE DECLARED

B Y CLARE TUCKER - PRODIGALDAUGHTER. ORG t doesn't feel good to tell them. People. They won't all understand. Clarify the view to the pedestal of normality. Let them know the clean exterior still has roaring waters beneath and that you are a mess set in motion to advance the kingdom in spite of it all. Clarify the perceptions by revealing your true self. Break their hearts. Break the ties you still have to that facade you always fall back to... Tell them who you really are. Change the world. You want to follow Me and lead more people to know Me. You want to chase after that purpose I graced you with. Now, go where you will be most effective. This will not be where you are most comfortable, and it isn’t going to be what is most pleasing to your flesh. But, it will be where I need you. You're My only plan, daughter. And they can all do what you did…they’re longing for it. Go tell them that I want to rescue them, too. Jesus, here I am. Unworthy addict, filled with faith. One thing's true, You made a way. You picked the loser. I win with You. They don't see me because of Truth. I’ll shout Your name and make them see, how You washed my sins and now I’m clean. Rock their world and drive their faith. I’ll show them how I got away. A world of lies and enemy fangs will stand no more in Your sweet name. I cry out, Jesus, so good and true. When it all falls down, there’s always You. “We can understand someone dying for a person worth dying for, and we can understand how someone good and noble could inspire us to selfless sacrifice. But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.” {Romans 5:6-8 MSG} That's the story he gave me to repeat to a world that needs saving. When I did everything to make myself useless, he declared me good and noble.

1. Why Jesus? ...I would sooner ask "Why me?" 2. How would you define your style/sound of music? Artistic Pop Worship with congregational hooks and some electronic, hip-hop, and indie vibes. 3. Any projects you're currently working on? I always have something new up my sleeve because God is continually working new truths into my heart, and I can’t not write in response. It’s a way of documenting His movement in my life and in the church. I’m about to release a new single, “Wake Us,” about the second coming of Christ and our awakening as His people. Also on deck is a live recording video series of covers and originals presented by Vusic, an up-and-coming Christian music platform. 4. If you could go on tour with two bands, who would they be and why? Switchfoot and Paramore: Both bands are pioneers that have stretched boundaries and been successful in the general market without selling out to the spirit of the world. Jon Foreman of Switchfoot is a genius songwriter and genuinely seems to love and value his bandmates. As for Paramore, Hayley’s vocal prowess alone would be magical to witness nightly on tour, but she also seems to be a sweetheart. Judging by her Twitter, we would totally get along. 5. We're launching our "World Changer Workshop" this fall. How do you aspire to be a World Changer? Proverbs 7:3 says to write His commands on the tablet of your heart. I led a high school Bible study at my church for years, and I saw the effect of pop lyrics on the brains and hearts of my students. Music has a way of burrowing into you and etching upon the tablet of your heart. I want to change the world by writing songs that send the arrow of Scripture deep into the soul and guide people to meditate on His attributes and promises—all while dancing. Because the world can always use more dancing.
