Developed to showcase Singapore at the World Expo, the Pavilion is themed 'Paradox-‐ity: A City of CreaHve Paradoxes', to present Singapore as a model living city because of the ability to create a balance between developmental needs and environmental responsibiliHes. Despite the scarcity of natural resources and limited land area of 720 square kilometres, Singapore has risen to these challenges creaHvely, turning these adversiHes into advantages and through these, conjured mulHple wonders.
The intenHon was to share with the world this small island's big dreams and what it has gone through to make these tangible realiHes. Unlike other typical presentaHons of forward-‐looking ciHes which have a_empted to place in the foreground interacHvity and connecHvity, 'Paradox-‐ity' is driven by human interacHons and connecHons -‐ resulHng in a collecHve experience for each visitor, creaHng an emoHonal resonance with Singapore the island state and by extension, their place in the world that is possible.
The experience of the nine galleries are threaded together with the architectural device of the ramp, and the sensory engagement of sight, sound, taste, scent and the tacHle is then choreographed to a gradual build-‐up of a veritable, emoHonal core, where one's hopes and dreams are given form and flight.
The Pavilion brings forth the Singapore story as a creaHve paradox, one where a li_le red dot emerged as a huge city of possibiliHes borne out of people's passion and spirit, and a naHon filled with big dreams.
