LEARNING VIDEO

I was part of Mathematics Team, consisting graphic designers, motion designers, master teachers, videographers, stylist. As a graphic designer, I studied storyboard and created assets and layout to be animated by motion designers. Other than Mathematics Team, I also helped creating assets for Biology Team.
After studying storyboards, I created color palette, layouts, and visualization to support teaching needs, as well as TV blocking campaigns. The visual assets were for videos with 5 to 50 minutes of duration, and were done collaboratively by 1 to 4 graphic designers.

The process of creating visual assets for learning videos are quite simple: I studied brief in the form of storyboards, then visualized them and sometimes improved from given storyboards to maintain harmony based on design principles. The challenges were some storyboards were complicated that I needed to go through them twice then discuss the visual previews with the Master Teachers.
After 6 months working in the team, I was appointed to be an IC (Individual Contributor). My IC partner and I reviewed works from 12 other graphic designers to maintain the quality and consistency.
Based on the notes collected from reviewing each designer’s works, I planned improvement tasks for the team. I conducted Design Review to improve hard skills and soft skills. Each session of Design Review is different. In one session, one by one, designers will point out mistakes in several visual assets. In another session, designers will be assigned with improvement tasks about design principles.

RUANGGURU X AULION PILOT PROJECT
In mid-2022, Ruangguru collaborated with content creator Aulion as art director to freshen up learning video in K-12. I collaborated with 4 other graphic designers to create the pilot project for Mathematics subject. My contribution includes creating moodboard, prototypes, discussing with creative team (which consisted many roles), up to creating assets to be animated by motion designers.

ALTA SCHOOL MODULES

Alta School is an educational service with homeschooling concept, targetting early stage students, from kindergarten to elementary. Learning module is one of the products, providing independent activities.
The objectives were to create layout fun enough for children, while still sticking to general guideline and design principles. Oftentimes, I also need to create illustrations based on the themes of the subjects, or the main idea of a story or a question on the page.

BRAIN ACADEMY HANDBOOK

The objective of the project was to provide basic information for final year high school students about Sekolah Kedinasan in a form of digital handbook, which includes hyperlinks directed to Ruangguru App. Considering the target segment was high school students, we decided on implementing a clean, not-to-childish, yet fresh design style, all while maintaining identity of Brain Academy by Ruangguru.

The brief includes partner’s KV and the copy, which mentioned “belajar bareng Dermies dan Ruangguru”, or study with Dermies and Ruangguru. I developed the visual by creating flat lay of stationeries altogether with partner’s product, to represent the copy.

I did research and development on two mandatory graphic elements for learning video, that are asset split and highlight.
The research was started with defining the definition and main goals of each element, that are coherent in terms of design principles. Then, I looked for presedents, both from internal and external, and analyze the patterns. After gathering data and analyzing, I then defined how the elements should appear in every learning videos.
The output wasn’t a fixed element, rather a general form and/or requirements of it.

The objective of the project was to create illustration for a motion video introducing Wola Design Studio. Although I needed to go with their existing illustration style, I still could get creative in terms of layout and composition.
I created 6 sets of illustration, from sketching ideation to finalizing layer-separation for the motion designer to animate. The brief was a list of scenes that Wola needed, with basic criteria and references.
