Animals rehabilitation volunteer

You will work taking part of the rehabilitation process of animals rescued from trafficking, like: bears, monkeys, turtles, parrots, iguanas, etc and help in the care of the envionment You will also help in fundraising campaigns and administration of the NGO.

07:30 - Meet at volunteer headquarters to be debriefed about the days tasks and animal’s needs. Enjoy a quick tea or coffee. 08:00 - Animal food preparation, enclosure and platform cleaning and first feeding for the animals. 09: 00 - Volunteer breakfast is served with fruit juice and fresh bread in El Tenedor Restaurante. Each volunteer must wash their used dishes. Assigned volunteer for the day wil clean area after meal. 10:00 - Special cleaning of enclosures, maintenance, observation and working on special projects that are constantly emerging.


12:00 to 13:30 - Animal food preparation and second feeding for the animals. 13:30 - Volunteers lunch is served with lemonade. Each volunteer must wash their dishes. Assigned volunteer for the day will clean area after meal. 14:00 to 16:00 - Assit tourist and guests of the refuge. Work on special projects, organized enrichment for the animals and observation. 16:00 to 17:30 - Animal food preparation cleaning and third feeding for the animals. Cleaning and organizing the Food Preparation Room and Animal Clinic. 17:30 to 19:30 - Free time 19.30 Volunteer dinner is served. Afterwards, there is an oportunity to watch movies,study animal profiles or just socialize with staff, tourist, and others volunteers. This is time to relax and get ready to give 100% for the next early morning with the animals.


WHAT

To bring

Working clothes, preferably long pants (you will be working with animals, and you will get dirty). LSV will provide with a lightweoght long sleeve volunteer shirt. It’s a good idea to bring a t-shirt or singlet top to wear underneath, as you will need to remove the voluneer during meal times. Bug repelient that does not contain DEET due to the close proximity to the animals. Flashlight Sunscreen Sturdy Shoes


Rubber boots if you are coming during the rainy season (December - March) Rain poncho or jacket. Padlock 1x Rubber Gloves and 1 x hardware gloves Prescribed medication and for the ladies feminine hygiene products as it is most likely you wont’t find them in the localtown. Small personal first aid kit that includes pain relief minor aches and pains, antihistamine tablets for bug bites and diarrhea medication for upset stomach. We also request to have a look at our “wish list� link to see if they would like to donate any items to the refuge on their arrival.


ANTI-PARASITING

medication

On arrival all volunteers are required to take a de-worming tablet. This will rid your body of any parasites that may be living happily in your body but can be life threatening especially to the monkeys that live at the refuge. The cost is Bs. 60 approx. and the Veterinary staff will administer this. The medication used is called NOXOM 500 mg. made by INTI. For the safety of the animals you must be willing to take this medication in order to volunteer.
