In the 32nd match of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018, Delhi Daredevils defeated Rajasthan Royals by 4 runs in the match filled with suspense. Delhi's unpredictable played a spoilsport as rain delayed the match. Earlier, Prithvi Shaw gave a great start to Delhi and Shreyas Iyer soon joined him in the attack. Rajasthan's nightmare ended as Shaw was dismissed just before his fifty. After that, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant kept the scoreboard running. The duo made their fifties and departed soon after that. Rain intervened just as 5 balls were remaining in Delhi's innings and the umpires called for covers. Delhi put up a massive total of 197 runs in 18 overs. The score was revised after the rain stopped and Mumbai had to chase 151 runs in 12 overs. Rajasthan Royals had a herculean task and opener Jos Butler was on a rampage as he brought up his fifty in just 18 balls. The pressure was back on Delhi. Amit Mishra got the better of him and gave Delhi the much-needed breakthrough.

After the toss match was delayed for one and a half hour and playing condition was revised. Under the revised playing condition, DD vs RR match reduced to 18 overs per side, Powerplay overs were reduced to 5 overs from 6 overs. Under the new playing condition, 3 players can bowl a maximum of 4 overs. Colin Munro and Prithvi Shaw came to open the innings for Delhi Daredevils while Dhawal Kulkarni came to bowl the first over and took the wicket of dangerous Colin Munro. He gave away only 1 run in his first over. DD skipper Shreyas Iyer came to the crease after the fall of the first wicket. Johra Archer came to bowl the 2nd over of the innings and Iyer glanced the 4th ball of the over for 4 in the fine leg region and bowled brilliantly to concede 5 runs in his first over. Kulkarni continued from the other end and Shaw welcomed him with a six of the first ball in the leg side. Shaw continued his aggressive hitting and hit another six of the 3 ball followed by a four in the cover region. Dhawal nearly got the wicket of Shaw of the last ball but he himself dropped him of the last ball. Kulkarni conceded 16 runs in his 2nd over. Unadkat came to bowl the 11th over of the innings and DD batsmen collected 10 runs as they were maintaining the run-rate. Gowtham came to bowl the 12th over and Iyer hit a six of the 2nd ball and sensibly took a single off the next ball. Pant continued his onslaught from the other end hit two consecutive boundaries of the 4th and 5th ball of the over as DD batsmen collected 16 runs of the Gowtham’s 2nd over. Kulkarni came to bowl 13th over and Iyer took a double of the 1st ball followed by a single. Pant pulled the 3rd ball of the over for six over the keeper’s head. It seemed Kulkarni lost his line and length amid the onslaught as he bowled 3 consecutive wide to end the over with two consecutive four by Pant. Ben Stokes came to bowl the 14th over and Iyer took a single off the first ball while Pant hit another cover drive to bring his 7th boundary. Pant took a single off the next ball to complete his 3rd half century of the IPL 2018. Pant hit a six to collect 15 runs of the Stoke’s 3rd over. After the end of the 14th over Delhi Daredevils scored 160 runs for the loss of 2 wickets with Shreyas Iyer (49 runs off 33 balls) and Rishabh Pant (58 runs off 25 balls) at the crease. Jaydev Unadkat came to bowl the 15th over of the innings and took two crucial wickets of Shreyas Iyer (50 runs off 35 balls, 3 fours and 3 sixes) and Rishabh Pant (as he conceded 12 runs in his 3rd over. Jofra Archer came to bowl the 16th over and gave 3 runs of the first two balls before Shankar hit the 3rd ball for six over the mid-wicket boundary followed by a four of the 4th ball. Archer conceded 15 runs in his 3rd over. Unadkat came to bowl the 17th over and Shankar plated a fine shot to bring his 2nd four but got perished while trying to score big shots. Shankar scored 17 runs off 6 balls with the strike rate of 283.33. Plunkett came to the crease after the dismissal of Shankar. Unadkat gave away 9 runs in his last over of the match. Jofra Archer came to a bowl last over of the innings and got the wicket of Maxwell before play halted due to rain.
