Academic Portfolio Carolina Rojas

About to graduate from LaSalle College International Vancouver. Carolina Rojas spent her time in school experimenting with different techniques to learn that draping is one of her passions. Inspired by nature, culture, art, architecture, she is always looking for small projects to develop herself as a fashion designer. Draping, Pattern Making and Construction Vancouver Fashion Week S/S 2014

A mini collection of 8 handmade pieces was showcased at Vancouver Fashion Week, S/S 2014 September 2013 The collection was inspired by a constrast between the softness of the freestyle draping and structure, where the structure was given with the detail of a native Colombian fabric, as well as the bustiere and jacket. Draping, Pattern Making and Construction MOLA: Hand made squares of fabric made by natives of Colombia and Panama. The shapes on the fabric are achieved when layers of fabric with different colors and shapes are placed one on top of the other. This fabric was used as details on some of the pieces.

Bustier with a skirt attached The bustiere was drafted and then sewn together with the bonning needed. The skirt was draped and later attached to the bustier by hand. Showcased at Vancouver Fashion Week. September 2013 Fabrics: Linen and satin (Bustier) Jersey (Skirt)

The Jacket was drafted, and then sewn togheter, later the draped detail was added. To create the skirt, a basic mini skirt was used as a base, then the freestyle draping technique was used to create the the skirt. Hand sewn. Showcased at Vancouver Fashion Week. Textile Manipulation Felting A rectangule was made using the felting technique. A piece of silk chifon as a base and pieces of cheesecloth and different colors of chiffon to give details the details on the top.

Fabric Dyeing One meter of Linen was dyed. The fabric was crumbled up and tied with elastic bands to get this result.

Fabric Dyeing A piece on jersey viscose was dyed to then be draped on a small mannequin.

Silk Painting A silk scarf was painted using a sponge for the background and a resistant and a brush to give the heeart shapes.
