sales material As a Graphic Designer/Marketing Coordinator at Global Wind Power I were responsible for coordination and production of all graphic design projects both on-line and off-line, from idea to finished product. The sales materials were designed to fit across national borders, i.e. both Denmark, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Poland and Romania. The sales brochure to the right consists of eight pages, and I have shown all four spreads. It is designed with the clear goal to sell the last two wind projects

in Romania with a focus on the commercial and the good story of the six projects that have already been sold, ”Six wind power projects down - two to go in Romania.” The sales brochure is to be used on all the markets listed in the first section. Important in the design is to fit all the numbers and facts about the projects in an interesting and readable way, and make the visual impression stand out both simple, cool and professional – and naturally make it fit Global Wind Power’s Design Guide.

Six wind power projects down – two to go in Romania
Verlezi baffled with production figures The 6 MW wind power project, Verlezi, is among our very first wind parks in Romania and consists of 3 Vestas V90 2.0 turbines. The wind park was erected and commissioned at the end of 2011. In the weeks and months following its commissioning, Verlezi came out with very impressive production numbers as high as 2,358,979 KWh during a single month, underlining the vast wind potential in this particular region and in Romania as a whole. The production numbers also reaffirmed our confidence in the attractiveness of Romanian wind power projects for international investors looking for higher ROIs and payback time during times of serious legislative concerns. Following the commissioning of Verlezi, our Romanian Country Unit arranged a guided tour for the national power company Electrica at the wind park to first hand witness the park in operation. This is only one of the efforts taken by Global Wind Power to actively involve national actors in the nature of wind power and take our fair share in developing the Romanian wind market. Verlezi was sold and handed over to the investor in 2011.

Cuza Voda required local focus Cuza Voda’s three V90 2.0 Vestas turbines are located in the Braila country, neighboring the Black Sea. Since the start of Cuza Voda, the project attracted great local interest. During the implementation, the neighboring community headed by a local entrepreneuring company also played a key role in the successful erection of the wind park. This underlined Global Wind Power’s long-standing goal of keeping to local/national subcontractors and getting local communities involved early on to ensure local support and a sense of ownership. The wind park was put into operation in 2012 and has been handed over to its investor.

Not only does Gebeleisis represent our largest Romanian project to date, it is also Global Wind Power’s largest single project ever implemented. The sheer size of the wind park meant that what looked like a small town for the construction crew was built in record time to facilitate their access to the area. A project covering such a vast area also means many different soil conditions, and our Technical Department quickly came to the conclusion that the initial 10 turbine foundation types we had expected would had to be doubled to securely place the wind turbines in the varied landscape. Experienced Vestas crew, meticulous preparation and ongoing coordination throughout the construction process ensured that all 35 Vestas V90 2.0 wind turbines were up and running at the agreed time. Gebeleisis was implemented throughout the summer of 2012 and is nearing its final handover to its endinvestor. This project has proved beyond doubt that Global Wind Power is ready to take on large-scale projects similar to the 50 MW project Cobadin which is next in line.

Examples on the right page show how this is used incl. a few pantone colour samples. This is to ensure that the printing company is able carried out perfectly. to match the colours as accurately as possible.
There is only one primary colour in Global Wind Power’s visual identity – light blue. Light blue may be adjusted in intervals of 10%. If light blue is used in 100% colour intensity it must never be on large and dominant surfaces, if this occurs the colour itensity must be reduced into at least 50%. There are three secondary colours in Global Wind Power’s visual identity – bright blue, bright green, and bright red. These three colours are to give a more fresh and modern look to the Global Wind Power corporate identity. The colours must always be used very carefully and never at the same time except from internal graphic decoration. The secondary colours must never be dominant at Global Wind Power’s external material. The colours may be adjusted in intervals of 10%. Mandatory quota The “mandatory quota” established an increasing percentage of renewable energy that must be supplied to the Romanian market each year. The “green certificates” are a support mechanism based on a market model, allocating 2 green certificates for each 1 MWh produced from wind sources (until and including 2017) and 1 green certificate for 1 MWh produced from wind sources (between 2018 and until 15 years after commissioning); after 15 years from the date of commissioning, the electricity will be sold on the market, at market price without any subsidies.

Romania, as a part of the European Union, has a target of providing 20% of its electricity supply from “renewable sources”. By renewable sources is understood wind, solar, biomass and small scale hydro. To support investments into renewable sources, the Romanian Authorities established a support scheme based on a combination of mandatory quota and green certificates:
50 MW Wind Park
Wind data and energy production
Green certificates In July 2011, the Romanian authorities received the approval of the European Commission on the promotional mechanism. The final legislation, the Emergency Ordinance containing final adjustments to the law as approved by the European Commission was signed on October 12, 2011 by the Romanian regulatory body, ANRE. With this document, Law 220 describing the applicable support system is complete, and are in force as of today.
Corporate Values
•
•
The effect of this support system on investors in Romanian wind projects is profound. The support of two green certificates until 2018 greatly improves the investment scenario for wind projects, and provides an added incentive to commission projects as soon as possible in order to receive the maximum benefit of the initial support period. Green certificates can be traded on the open market, throughout 2011 trading has been conducted at a maximum price of nominal 56.15 euros per certificate with demand significantly outpacing supply. Alternatively, it is possible to sign long term Power Purchase Agreements (PPA’s) for both electricity and green certificates, thus securing the project’s forward income, but in return accepting a reduction on the current market price. The investor may participate together with Global Wind Power in securing the most favourable setup in terms of electricity and green certificate off-take agreements.

Implementation
Skilled management on your behalf
Early stage development of a wind park is often the most challenging phase. Suitable or proposed areas for development of wind projects are investigated, with the aim of assessing the feasibility of a project. Feasibility studies cover the following areas: wind, grid connection, roads, soil conditions and the environment. This initial phase typically ends with the existence of agreements with the land-owners, a preliminary commitment on final grid connection and the authorities’ acknowledgement of the location of the project.
Having secured all the necessary permits, the wind turbine project is now ready for implementation. However, if the Greenfield development has been carried out elsewhere, most likely by another developer, Global Wind Power starts by ensuring that the work done meets our standards. Turnkey comprises project planning, design, construction and commissioning, all in close cooperation with the main contractors and the turbine manufacturer (Vestas).
One of the requirements for successful long-term management of a wind park is skilled development in the previous Greenfield and Turnkey phases. On behalf of the customer, we make sure that all permits, regulations and prior requirements relating to the Greenfield and Turnkey phases are always upheld. To do so, we communicate and resolve potential problems with all related stakeholders; land owners, local authorities, grid operators, etc. This often resource-heavy and challenging work is made possible by our years of Know-how and experience in the field.
Project design and authorizations
We utilize local contractors to perform civil and electrical work, including: Building access roads, pouring turbine foundations, laying electrical cabling and construction of transmission substations. They know the construction legislation in each country, and we ensure the highest standard in project management and site management throughout the construction stage via our vast international experience. In close cooperation with the turbine manufacturer (Vestas), we manage the commissioning of the wind park as well as the final grid connection of the wind turbines with the grid operator. The Turnkey phase is complete when the finished wind turbine project is put into operation.
Civil/electrical work and commissioning
Technical Management Technical Management is responsible for monitoring, inspection and maintenance of the wind park and includes ongoing contact with the wind turbine manufacturer (Vestas). Our speciallytrained engineers and local operation managers stand ready to act and rectify faults to ensure that your wind park functions optimally throughout its lifetime.
Commercial Management Complying with changing legislation and commercial optimization of a wind park may prove as important for the efficiency of the wind park as the ongoing Technical Management. Therefore, we manage a range of commercial aspects relating to the wind park in close coordination with the customer. Depending on the customer’s wishes and capacity in this field, we may carry out some or all services relating to Commercial Management.

Selection and evaluation of potential wind turbine locations
This phase is a continuation of the previous phase, and should be undertaken by Global Wind Power or another skilled project developer. A detailed technical and structural project design is prepared. This includes the studies and calculations required in order for the authorities to continue processing the project. This phase ends when all the required permits for the implementation and operation of the wind turbine project are in place, not least the crucial building permit, making the project ready-to-build.

guide When I work one of my most important tools is the company’s Design Guide. When I started at Global Wind Power I started out with updating the old Design Guide since it was outdated. This way I make sure that there is a thorough and uniform graphic expression throughout the whole visual identity – a main thread. To the left are some of the graphic assignments that I have done for Global Wind Power. The general sales teaser is used for the presentation of all individual wind turbine projects containing for instance
factual production numbers and market conditions in the current country. The other assignments shown are sales sheet, business value chain, investment summary, business card and on-line banners. Most of the materials are targeted at many different customer segments at the same time. As a Graphic Designer I am responsible of making sure that the main thread at all times remains throughout all graphic assignments, both on-line and off-line, small as well as large assignment.

corporate campaign In 2011/12 we did a corporate campaign at Global Wind Power with the title ”Development Done Differently”. The campaign ran both on-line and off-line, and mainly in the leading magazines in the wind industry. The campaign also functioned as Flash banners and still graphics for the corporate website. The campaign itself has a humoristic angle showing the way Global Wind

From concept to reality
How would you describe your cooperation with Global Wind Power? “I met Global Wind Power at a fair in Brussels. After initial talks, we quickly arranged a visit to your head office in Thisted, Denmark. My visit there convinced me that this indeed was a company I would like to do business with. The atmosphere at the office and your very downto-earth approach was very appealing to me, and I felt immediately that you could be trusted.
Global Wind Power Global Wind Power is a leading international project developer specialising in developing, implementing, selling and managing wind turbine projects for professional investment. The wind turbine projects are sold to a range of international customers: Industrial, institutional and private.
As a pre-developer on the Romanian market I have specialised in developing Greenfield projects. I do not engage in either implementation or management of wind parks. I do not care too much for the involved risk, and honestly I prefer to concentrate on what my team and I do best - develop sound ready-to-build projects.
Global Wind Power is a dynamic company which has experienced rapid growth since its foundation in 1999. We closely monitor the opportunities on the global market, and advance in line with the needs of customers. Today, we have more than 440 MW of international experience and an even larger project pipeline on the way.
I entered this business because I am fascinated by the idea that you can basically develop something from nothing. This still drives me and my company today, and we have developed a real niche and now range among the most prominent developers on the Romanian market. Your services and experience enable me to transform my projects from concept to reality and to focus on what I do best. That is of real value to me.”
Our ambition to Turn Wind into Value on new and mature markets demands both Know-how and adaptability. With more than 240 wind turbines built in 50 wind parks across Europe, we have established a business concept with global potential.

Locally Rooted Local representation and involvement are crucial for the successful completion and monitoring of wind turbine projects. This is why we have strong and independent offices in all countries in which we develop and administer projects. Besides our Danish headquarter, we have active Country Units in Germany, France, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey with local employees. Visit www.globalwindpower.com for further information.

investor brochures The eight different sales brochures to the left are designed with a focus on the individual customer segment. Both content inside and illustration on the front are designed to fit and appeal to the current customer. The eight brochures consist of four pages each. Bottom on the left page shows an example of
one of the spreads. To make the brochures stand out from the rest of the sales materials, one of Global Wind Power’s secondary colours from the Design Guide has been chosen to dominate the brochures, the rest of the layout follows the company’s guidelines within graphic design. I have drawn all eight illustrations on the front cover.

design As an independent I have done quite a lot of web designs. The two examples to the left are two companies where I have made the design of both logo, all graphic materials and the corporate website. I have made sure that
the main thread exists throughout the whole visual identity to maintain recognition towards the customers. Click on the links to the left and visit the websites.

appeal advertising In my time as an independent I designed my own corporate identity. First I had to choose a name for my company that I felt confident about. I decided on Appeal because my initials (ap) begin the word, and appealing is just the word that I want to describe my graphic work – something that creates attraction. That is what good marketing material is all about. I designed a logo, business card, postcard/flyer and a website. Appeal’s visual identity reflects who I am as a person – colourful, crea-
16
tive, artistic and outgoing. This shows throughout all graphic materials as a main thread. The period as an independent has been a landmark for both my personal and professional development. I functioned as an Art Director and Project Manager at the same time with full responsibility for all tasks. It has required considerable coordination and structure of both sales work as the creative work, including deadlines. At any time I have given high priority to the personal contact with the customer.

In my time as an independent I did a wide range of graphic designs. One of my customers was a culture and media centre, that arranges a lot of concerts, executions and smaller fairs. To the left are some of the assignments I did for them – ad, seasonal programme and brochure telling about the place.
The general design has an artistic, colourful and collagelike touch to emphasize the joy and amusement that a cultural experience often bring. All mixed with a clean and very professional layout.
